Got a ride in an E60 M5 a few times. It was glorious.

are those things good for anything? I mean they suck gas and it only puts out ~300hp ~400lbft

A lot of V8's can do that..... Do they at least take boost well like other modulars?

They last forever, even under harsh conditions (i.e, heavy towing, hauling, etc.). Most of the "heavy duty" v8s offered by the big 3 still use cast iron blocks as opposed to aluminum.
