What are the benefits and trade-offs of using N2O anyways? Are they any better (cost effective/power/reliability-wise) than, say, turbo/superchargers?

I usually go through about two canisters every two weeks. Every second weekend I take the Civic down to the street races and I pretty much use it all there. Nice to have a bit of extra cash from wagers every so often.
