Just a thought, maybe light armor is better than too much armor since mobility is key. I don't know if the US would be similar to the middle east since we have different availability of weapons, especially explosives such as RPGs. Would that mean more armor and less mobility is acceptable?

I want to do that with a BTR, or some big wheeled APC like pic related. Just fit it out as a luxury car inside, pad the driver's seat a bunch, and you're gravy.

A lot of cool ideas for this have come out of the middle east recently

The BRDM only has minimal armor though. Anything significant will treat it like paper.

On the bright side most weapons are just 30-06, .308 or smaller when concerning arms in the US, so you might be able to get away with it.
