If you mean a Bell Revolver EVO, then that's probably one of the worst modular helmets I've ever seen in person. Heavy as fuck and shitty everything else to boot. Probably won't die but it sure is a bad helmet compared to other modulars of the same price.

I bought it from a guy who used to race in an amateur 1000cc superstock class. He did the performance related mods in terms of engine internals and cam profile, ignition setup etc.

I bought it from him non road legal, put on the akrapovic and got it redyno'd for the new exhaust. The stock cancer Suzuki ship the bike with has a butterfly in the exhaust which is electrically operated to modulate backpressure and control emissions. He had a non road legal exhaust which I wouldnt be able to use in this country on the road

The GSXR is factory restricted as standard both top speed and rate of acceleration. The Nikko GPack does away with timing retardation.

I installed the WP rear shock, and changed the clip ons to a slightly more aggressive profile with renthal bars, pulls me flatter on the tank and gets a bit more of my weight over the front wheel to make the front wheel more controllable

I then fit lights and all that shit to make it road legal so I can commute as well as track it.

Put some other shit on like R&G frame sliders, bar ends, clutch and stator cover protection because I'm going to drop it eventually and it's a Suzuki you add cancerous shit to "personalise" it.

Oh new adjustable rearsets also because I am tall
>>
Is there a such thing as an aftermarket "streetfighter/cafe racer" headlight that actually has decent light output?

AFAIK tacking an OEM item to your forks is better and cheaper 100% of the time.

>>

I dont even have a pic of the bike on this PC just videos I backed up from commuting.

Anyway, all I've seen from the doubters so far is a bunch of poorfaggots claiming they own a Honda Fireblade and then posting up a stock image from the back of mom's minivan.
>>
>>16933184
Maybe? It's a fairly heavy and powerful sport tourer, not as bad as a supersport though. Is a good bike though.
>>
>>16933184
A lot of new riders on big bikes lug the engine all the time because they're scared of the power. This can make it easier to crash, especially in corners, and also make it scarier and unsettle the chassis when the power does come on when it would normally be a smoother progression from some power to more power.

Learn to love that powerband

The first think you will be tempted to do on a big bike is to grab a handful of right grip. I did that my first time on the R1 for the lulz, the back span up and fishtailed for about 30 yards.

You need to get used to the weight/size of the bike. Find a big open space like a disused warehouse parking lot and do some slow speed manouvers. It should have sufficient power to ride around at a slow pace with no throttle input. Ride round cones and shit, the sort of stuff I imagine they do on the MSF- I wouldn't know I did my license in the UK. If you have ridden dirt you should have sufficient experience not to shut the throttle off immediately if/when the back spins up. I assume the dirt bikes were 2 strokers so a bit more revvy than the 4 stroke equivalents.

Do you have advanced rider qualifications in the states? We have them, you can go out with the Police and they will teach you basic first aid (I think) as road positioning, how to read the road etc.

TL;DR:
Don't be a daft cunt and you will be fine, car drivers will be your biggest concern

is drz400 the only option for somebody who doesnt want to have to do constant maintenance on it? i completely change the oil on my sv650 every 3k miles, so every 2-3k is fine for me

also what should somebody look to pay for a drz400 that isnt complete shit, including the socal tax?
>>
>>16934075
No.

WR250X/R has less maintenance than the DRZ400 and can do everything the DRZ can.
>>
>>16934080
yeah but can the wr250 go on california freeways without redlining?

what makes them better than the drz? how does the maintenance differ between the two?
>>
>>16934045
A2 is 35kilowatts, or about 45 horsepower if you don't live on a prison island.

I took my first test in the old system as well - and failed, so I had to redo in the new system. Got my A1, then A2. Currently have A2 formaat two years, so I could get my A's but it'll be kinda expensive.

this:
>>16934080

Really the WR250R and X and the DRZ400 are really the only options for low maintenence supermotos in the states.

You can sumo a XR650L or a DR650 but they wont be as good.

All the euro bikes are maintenance nightmares if you ride them on the street unless you get a pigfat 690 or 701.

XR650R has better maintenance but still worse than the DRZ/WRR/WRX

>>16934084
>yeah but can the wr250 go on california freeways without redlining?
I ride mine to work and back on the freeway daily, in the carpool lane, passing traffic.
They ahve a 6 speed and I've regeared mine +4 on the rear sprocket too for better acceleration. Top speed is probably around 98mph at redline. It will and does cruise all day at 75mph.

DRZ's are close ratio 5 speeds so they are strung out at high speeds on the freeway, but their motor isnt as smooth and they feel like theyre taking themselves apart if you cruise long distances at high speed.

>what makes them better than the drz?
Better than a DRZ in that they weigh less than 300lbs wet and make near the same peak power, power to weight is nearly the same because of the lighter weight. The lower weight makes them easier to handle and handle better offroad. Maintenence wise they have the same oil change intervals as the DRZ but their valve check intervals are at 26,000 miles compared to the DRZ's 16,000 miles. Reliability wise they are bullet proof and love high rpm. They are also fuel injected so no fucking with a carb. Handling I think the WRR is more flickable and has faster turn in

DRZ has more torque (larger displacement), more power, heavier, larger aftermarket, etc.

Really depends on what you want. If you want a light screamer the WRR/WRX is a good bike. If you want a torquey thumper the DRZ is a good option but you gain about 10% more weight.

>>16934120
Both bikes have a 35-36"ish seat height and similar ergos. The WRR/WRX can be lowered 1" with factory adjustments in the shock length.

what is the difference between the wr250 x and f?

which would be better for a wet forest environment next to the ocean a la humboldt county?

>>
>>16934132
any reasonably light bike without a shitload of torque can be ridden in that shit anon

what the hell do you need the suspension travel of a dual sport for? are you jumping logs? how the hell do people own cars there?
>>
>>16934132
>what is the difference between the wr250 x and f?
Keep in mind we are talking about two entirely different bikes ehre. Well three but two of them are the same, but different...

>WR250F
Fourstroke offroad race bike. Terrible maintenance and not street legal. Not what you're looking for.

>WR250R
Street legal dual sport with 21" front and 18" rear wheels and offroad tires. Street legal and meant for serious mileage. Completely different bike from WR250F. Has 26,000 mile valve chekc interval and 3000 mile oil change intervals.

>WR250X
Exact same bike as the WR250R only it has a black frame/swingarm and is fitted with 12" front and rear rims and tires, a factory supermoto. Only other change is a slightly different front caliper and a larger front rotor.

WR250X and WR250R's are easily converted between each other with a wheel swap and a caliper relocation bracket.

>which would be better for a wet forest environment next to the ocean a la humboldt county?
Between the WRR/WRX and the DRZ, Both would be good. Depends on what you prefer.
WRR/WRX bette ron the highway and in tighter technical offroad riding
DRZ better in faster offroad riding and sand, peppier in stoplight to stoplight riding on the street.

>what year should i get
DRZ400SM's are pretty much all the same except small changes to the gas tank IIRC.

WRR/WRX's are identical for all years since 2008 when they came out. WRX was no longer made after 2011.
>>
>>16934153

im a forestry student. i will be travelling into the forest frequently as the house that i will be living in is L I T E R A L L Y 25 feet from the edge of a forest. as in "dont leave trash sitting out because bears will eat it"

not really sure how an sv650 would handle mud/sticks/gravel in the road, as in socal it rains about 3 times a year, and before that i lived in the deserts of arizona

i also tire of my sv650 and supermotos look fun as all hell

I don't know anon, I have a ninja 500 and it has tackled my backyard, a short hillclimb (nothing too steep), and putting around off walking trails in a local park marked "no motor vehicles" without falling over or spinning the wheel for days and I don't even have any dirt experience. Going faster in that stuff might warrant dual sport tires, if they make them in the right size, but it was okay.

What you're talking about is like buying a jeep to go up a graded road when you would be better off putting tires with more aggressive tread on a 3k civic.
>>
>>16934188
but i want to go offroad in forests, i dont think that my sv will handle ditches and rocks and mud and small streams and shit, all while carrying camping gear and what have you
>>
>>16934132
>how much will it run

I picked u my supermoto converted WR250R for $2500. Pic related.

More typical advertised prices are in the $4000-5000 range.

If you find a WR250R for a good price that's not converted plan for about another $1000 for wheels and another $200-250 or so for tires to convert it to supermoto.

Ideally you'd have a set of each (17" supermoto wheels/tires and 21"/18" dual sport wheels and tires) so you can switch up depending on where you want to ride.

Look at motoX industries for decent prices on the wheels and wheel/tire combos with caliper brackets.
>>
>>16934191
It probably will, just not very well at higher speeds

Like taking stanced cars over speedbumps, riding road bikes offroad requires a degree of care, but less so if your bike is not a hella low sportbike that puts all the weight on the front and has minimal standing ground clearance but more than enough lean for a track.

now sure how to replace the chain and sprockets on my bike.

I don't really have any decent tools either, just my bike's toolkit and a few of my dad's wrenches.

Is it better to just get a mechanic to to it for me?

This guy will do i for £30 which doesn't seem bad.

Cars are capable of much higher cornering speeds than motorcycles, as well as various tricks involving losing traction without crashing, or worrying about a highside. To add insult to injury, such tricks and cornering speeds are available to even shit drivers, and there is much more room for improvement once you reach them.

Bikes can't even into downforce.

They duplicate the original vintage British bike experience for good and ill. If you are a mechanic you'll do alright, as most owners back in the day did their own wrenching. I wouldn't recommend one to a new non-mechanic rider unless you are willing to learn. If so, visit Royal Enfield forums which this is not. This is a DRZ shitpost forum.

Best classic styled bike for reasonable money is a used Harley Evolution-engined Sportster. Engine layout hasn't changed since they were originally designed in the 1950s as a scrambler.

>or just buy an actual old bike for like 1/4 of the price

If it's old and British it won't be a quarter of the price unless it needs restoration. Then it won't be cheap by the time you are done. If must have Brit styling buy used Hinckley Triumph twin, not a Meriden.

Being a bike mech includes handling ALL electrical issues without hesitation. Wiring funky or you don't care for the layout? Throw it away and rewire. Switches suck? Replace with better. I didn't say "mechanic and electrician" because on motorcycles they are the same.

Ignition and alternators don't shit often even on the oldbikes. The Enfield owners I've met at classic bike meets are also old fart collectors like me who have other machines. They don't seem bothered and they ride theirs.

Unmodified British electrics are supposed to suck. That's one reason they killed their motorcycle industry. What exists now is a different industry with styling roots in the past. Enfield are closer to the old bikes because the plant moved to India where the ability to fix your own machine is expected because third world. Any quality problems are because the wogs don't care. Look at their country. It's infested with Muslims and toxic as a burning landfill with an open sewer running through it for the same reasons.

Country comparison is useful to understand how bikes developed. The old ways in Bongland involved doing lots of periodic maintenance in winter and the standard of rider knowledge was higher. In Burgerland we expect to flog what we own and have it work. Harleys were floggable, easy to maintain, and didn't die on long trips. Dead vintage Britbikes are plentiful today because they quit running due to minor issues, mechanics were few, so they ended up sitting in barns. Harley lived, Brits died. Japs into modern production b4 everyone else and rose to global leadership.

If in doubt, buy a GS500 then play with otherbikes as secondary vehicles.

>>16935134
The GS500 is objectively the best beginner bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke twin cylinder bike, so it drinks less than 6 liters per 100 km.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport, spoiling you for when you get something else. But it can also corner much better than something like a cruiser, and actually uses its entire rear tire unlike a Ninja 250.
> brakes
They are complete shit and their only redeeming feature is that they're disc brakes. This is good because the longer braking distance forces new riders to plan ahead and start braking early. No ABS means they learn to brake properly I'd they don't want to get shrekt.
> power
It sits right at the power limit for A2 bikes which is great for euros. It's torquey enough to be faster off the line than most cars you'll encounter in the city. But it also feels relatively gutless so a) it's forgiving of mistakes and b) you can ride it at the limit without putting yourself into too much danger. It reaches up to 180 km/h which is fast enough for highway riding.
> carbs
It being carbed means that if you run into problems, you can learn to fix them yourself instead of heading to the mechanic every time.
> seating position
Upright, slightly forward means it's a neutral riding position so you can figure out what you want afterwards. The seat is relatively uncomfortable making literally every other bike after it will feel like heaven on your ass.
> price and availability
Parts and the bikes themselves are cheap and plentiful. If you crash and fuck up one of your fairings it's 40 euros to replace it with original parts. Engine needs little maintenance. Beginner riders are typically not financially independent, so this is a big plus for them.
> suspension
It's a budget suspension factoring into the overall low cost of getting a GS 500. If you want better suspension it's easy to swap. Therefore it gives beginners an opportunity to learn working on suspension while keeping the cost manageable.

You can fix most electrical problems on anything with bare crimp connectors, heatshrink tubing and a test light with the meter reserved for charging system checks. Most military aircraft wiring is crimped.

I use a light combined with a beeper I found on Ebay so I don't have to look at the test light while holding probes.

If quality is an issue I suggest intervening before failure. See Enfield forums for whatever breaks on particular models.

This style light works well. Cut the plug ends off a pair of test leads or make your own. Base has screws so you can swap leads easily.

>>16934026
I know this a slowass reply but whatever.

I had an A2 detuned GPZ500, no fucking fun at all, you don't realise how much restrictiors damage enjoyment.

Now on an R3 and it's a different world, I actually ride for enjoyment which I hadn't done in the 4 years before. Can do 100+ any motorway, up or downhill, but don't expect huge pull at that speed, you won't get anything on an A2 that will do that.

I know there's plenty of memelords on here that hate on the R3 but it's great for what it is, and on an A2 licence it makes a lot of sense. Also heard good things about the RC390, but never ridden it.
