I haven't ridden my motorcycle in awhile and since today was a somewhat good day, I thought I'd take it out. I noticed that the cover over the keyhole in the ignition wasn't there and thought great, someone tried stealing it but couldn't get it to turn. I then noticed the paint around the handlebars on the right was flaking and just thought it was due to the weather. When I got on I noticed that the handlebars were bent towards the gas tank on the right side too. I realized just how lucky I had been right there. I moved my bike into a storage shed I've been renting right after. I wouldn't say my city is shitty, just the apartments I live in. What are some effective ways to prevent this from happening again? Are disk locks something that would deter thieves?

Very good taste, but they are really expensive, as an explorer owner i can tell you that buying a bike with 50 000+km/30000+miles is really not a problem, these things are built to last and the quality is incredible.

If you ever get your hands on one, pay attention to the first year (2012) bikes, they had two recalls ( engine noise and abnormal clutch wear ), wich were corrected from 2013 on, after that they are free from any issue.

Journalists are absolute shills about this bike, it surclasses the GS on everything except offroad, wich is retarded on a 200+kg bike beyond fire roads.

I ride it everyday for ~50kms all year around and tour on it on weekends, it's an absolute blast.

what do real life riders, and i mean real life i dont care about internet opinions here think of these bikes as beginner bikes

i rode on a motorcycle twice and learnt the controls now i want to get a bike to practice on than finish my licensing and get insurance on it

at first i really wanted a dual sport but ive been told you usually see older more experienced guys on them because they are tall and hard to control. ive been directed towards these and i feel a little turned down by the though of cafe racers and im not sure if these classify as one or if you fix one up they would than be called a cafe racer, but im still down to get one.
>>
>>16921801
It's just a UJM. Most bikes used to look like that. Times change, so now most don't.

Nobody will care.
>>
>got a track bike.
>got 2 sets of wheels
>one dry one wet
>have rear sprocket for each

how bad is it to keep changing rear sprockets for the chain?

i obviously use the dry wheel more than the wet so the dry wheel sprocket is a tad bit more worn. is it fine just swapping or should i start changing the sprocket too.
>>
>>16921805
Ideally you want the chain and sprocket to wear evenly as a set, if you have a newer sprocket on a worn chain or vice versa it'll make them both wear faster.
>>
>>16921610

>>
>>16921801
I'm also interested in this. I want to start riding and a large part of that is that I can't stand new cars being full to the brim with cruft. This style of bike is the one that catches my attention the most but it seems like the obvious choice.

The other question is what's the deal with (new) Royal Enfield? They're real cheap, are they also real crap?
>>
>>16921814
What are you asking?
>>
>>16921818
>can you rid e a bicycle?
>can you drive a stick car?
you have the absolute basics to stall your way to victory
>>
>>16921801
1. you'll have no trouble starting on a dual sport, if you're over 5'8 you could probably flat foot a DR650 lol.

2. that bike is 100% literally a 1970s bike that's been given the barest of updates to make it 2017 worthy, so fuel injection and what not. (Actually they took the electric starter OFF it as well).

that's fine but you're paying 2017 money for 1970s design and tech, and they're not that cheap, for $1000 more than the SR400s asking price you can pick up a new FZ-07 or SV650 etc.

It'll be a great beginner bike but to pick that you have to care a lot more about what it looks like than how it rides, and that's not my style.

this is one of the more obvious examples, in all the cases I don't see why he does it though, I guess it's because riding doesn't look that fast at the normal speed but it's plenty fast riding, it didn't need to be sped up.

where's the seat? are we sitting on the engine? that's how you burn to death

So my clutch is now slipping shifting at high rpms and in instances like trying to power wheelie. I had a much more severe issue when I first put on some no brand levers but after adjusting them it was fine. I recently got the exact same levers just a different color scheme and an oil change. I even put the OEM levers back on and I still have the same issue. I hear that some people have slipping after changing the oil but I'm worried that it might just be the clutch itself. I used mobile 1 4t 10w-40w. Is there an oil that might allow the clutch to catch better or might I expect my clutch to be worn down at only 8500 miles?
>>
>>16922328
what bike? an mt-07 clutch is only good for about 14kkm.

Does it work fine at low rpm?

Adjust the cable so the clutch engages when you have the lever pulled almost all the way, the go for a ride again. If it still slips your clutch is probably shot.

>>
>>16922353
I noticed it Monday after I was already riding it for a few hours. Tried it yesterday after letting it warm up for 5 minutes after I put the OEM clutch on and it was the same.
>>
>>16922362
The aftermarket ones have a screw that I had used to adjust the first aftermarket and make it work and I did the same to the second set. They can't be adjusted anymore. The oems are glued as apparently they find the perfect stop and glue it to make sure no adjustments are made.

If its got little oil in it and sucks to start and smokes your crank seal is probably leaking. Also would be why your plug is so covered in shit. It is easy to change them and it will run pristene adter that.

Hay hay, I am looking to buy an old
BMW R1100RS motorcycle. Now I know from experience that their cars are quite okay if you can hold a wrench in your hand and a fat stack of bills in the other, but I have 0 experience with their bikes.

Are there any bigger known issues around BMW bikes? from what I've gathered, it's a 4 banger engine and is shaft driven instead of chain. No chain replacements or tightening, yay.

The one I am looking at apparently has some noisy lifters and puffs a bit of smoke when cold, I am suspecting the valve stem seals.

nah not really desu, you just take the pin out, loosen the big nut, move the little nuts on the back 1/2 turn at a time (do them both the same amount to keep the alignment), check the chain is tight enough (but not too tight, it should have a bit of play for suspension travel and what not) then tighten the big nuts on the axle back up again.

Honestly takes me longer on a BMX.

Honda fit, 2007, 190k miles. But the car mechanically, and on the interior, is immaculate. The only damage is a bumper dent, a chip off the right side mirror, and bug marks on the windshield.

Otherwise, again, it's immaculate.

how long should I expect to wait until it sells? It's hard for me to get time off to do these test drives since I don't have set days off.

>>16923517
It depends on how well you price it. Once a buyer is seriously interested the process moves very quickly, as in like a day or two to arrange a good time. If you price high then expect less interested buyers.

Honestly, i'd say someone knocked it over rather than tried to pinch it. Ignition cover probably just fell/tore off

Really if someone want's your bike, they gonna get it or fuck it up in a way that's going to cost you money. Your best bet is to put it in secure storage, in a garage, behind a locked gate. Failing that get a high quality disk lock, and a big fucking chain and ground anchor of some type (concrete block drilled into the ground is good)

R3 is a better bike, but you'd still be better off just getting something used for cheap on Craigslist.
You can still finance the bike by taking a loan out from your bank or credit union.
You will regret buying a brand new bike as your first, there's a good chance it'll get dropped and even if it doesn't resale will be much lower than what you paid

Are they too lazy to do the crankshaft recall or what? CBR300R is a really good bike if you don't care about drag racing 300s. Pulls as well as the R3 until you get to the top end, really light, as good of clutch, gearbox and brakes as you're going to get in a 300 and a lot of people like the suspension and tires better than the R3.

I wouldn't pay as much for it as an R3 but you shouldn't need to.

Not dating anyone seriously 2bh. Went back to tinder one night and got like 10 matches while drunk-swiping and smoking a cigar in my room. That one is a vet and is deceptively smart for how flamboyant her everything is. She likes dancehall and everything Jamaican. Kinda meh in some regards. I went out with this geek chick yesterday who was into DBZ and Star Wars and metal and so on. I think that one is likely to work out better. I invited her for a ride tomorrow, she agreed!

you americans need some distinct logo of the SAM
Make something like we had for the first SEM, maybe people will notice it more, instead of only writing about it from time to time. No need for all of your bikes to be on the picture, just make something visually recognizable
