Do you think this car will undergo massive depreciation, suddenly be picked up by fritters all around, get swapped and molested, then skyrocket in value? I think it's going to be exactly like the original 86 in about 10 years. What do you think, /o/?

they probably wont skyrocket unless some shitty cartoon about it comes out though

yes

Only if we're lucky they won't stop production in 10 years and folks will have the option to buy an old or new one. Hell, you can already get a 2014 one for under 5 digits.

Probably not, the AE86 Corolla was just a souped up economy car at heart and I don't think Toyota really predicted the following that it was going to have. The 86 GT is just a sports car with sports car value and is a lot more expensive compared to when the AE86 came out.

It was the most important release in the sports car market the year it came out, if not the most important car released in terms of changes to the industry and public opinion, the AE86 was a fucking corolla that had an input on the small world of car enthusasts cross weeb comics.

>>
>>16921371
>All the history of drifting originated with weaboos being obsessed over shitboxes
No, the history of drifting being an affordable pastime for japanese youths had to do with shitboxes
The 86 is an affordable shitbox, it's just a new affordable shitbox, and it happens to be great at drifting (which is why toyota sells all the jap drift crews 86s without paint or wheels)

Unless the gt86 gets much more popular in all kinds of racing, I don't think it will get as expensive as the ae86 in 30 years.

The ae86 was much more widely raced all over the world than the gt86 is now, which is most of the reason why it's price went up so much.

Although, having said that, when the gt86 is 30 years old there will be far fewer similar cars on the market than the ae86 had.

Face the reality, gt86 is a great car, its a popular car and it has all ready surpassed ae86 in everything other than being that old cheap as fuck piece of shit everyone races because gt86 is not old and cheap yet and aftermarket for it hasn't even begun to develop properly.
>>
>>16922491
The only problem with the gt86 is the power. These fuckheads say "Dude the ae86 was only like 160hp" but if you compare it to other cars in its league at that period then that's pretty average, or maybe a little above average. Today we have 4 door sedans with near 300 hp out of the factory. 200hp is just weak, not to mention the factory trans settings creating a torque dip in earlier models. That's why people hate the new 86.

I don't think so. The 86 was very natural being so light with manual steering not to mention styling no other car can ever have with modern govt restrictions. Plus they had Yamaha. The 86 is stuck in a vacuum. The new one is probably as good as a mock up you can make. It's the right drive train, light for modern standards, and has a classic engine. However I don't think it has everything the original has that made it extra valuable.

It's objectively not a very fast car. It's not my opinion it is literally fact that there are cheaper cars that are faster on average than the 86/BRZ. They are undoubtedly fun to drive but when tons of FWD cars with slightly higher horsepower are beating it out on Nurburgring there's really no excuse. You can't defend it as a track car. NAs never cost 30,000 out the door. They are popular now because they are old, cheap, and abundant for track cars.

Shitbarus are not cheap and dont offer anything spectacular for the amount of money youd pay for one.

The original question had nothing to do with the gen pop. Are you retarded? The question was "will the gt86 follow the same path as the ae86" and his answer is no, his (flawed) reasoning being that because modern car enthusiasts don't give a shit about them means it will never become a meme car. Even though no one gave a shit about the AE86 when it was new either. You're both wrong and mildly retarded for missing each other's points by such a wide margin.

>>16923505
That has nothing to do with whether or not it will become a meme car. The AE86 had, what, 400k produced? The only thing it comes down to is if it can stick in kid's heads about a decade from now, period. We just don't know, it's all guesswork because it's brand new now.
>>
>>16923529
Yeah, because no one's raced GT86s yet, right? I'm not even going to bother googling pictures of it because you're STILL missing the fucking point.

Let me try to dumb it down for you. The AE86 wasn't a meme car before Initial D outside of a tiny fringe of people in Japan, now it's worldwide and hugely memed. So, the original question of "will the gt86 reach meme status" is unanswerable as it requires knowledge of future society roughly 20-30 years off, with the initial spark (like with the AE86 and Initial D) happening about a decade from now.

The ae86 has always been popular among enthusiasts, it has always been raced.
It's a massive meme car here to the stage that it's synonymous to anything car related because of it's popularity in track and rally racing since the '80s and because there were tonnes of them brought into the country while they were cheap.
Few people here even know what Initial D is, let alone bought a car because of it.

The gt86 will be popular in a few decades because there aren't many lightweight driver oriented sports cars being made anymore.

I guess that makes a Ferrari 458 a slow piece of shit because the new 488 is faster

The reality is quickness of a car is subjective. For some people the GT86 might feel like a fast car. I guess if you start comparing lap times, then yes the GT86 is slower than the competition but on its own it's not a slow car.
>>
>>16923775

>Do you think this car will undergo massive depreciation

Are you telling me they haven't already? some of the older ones with less than 100k kilometers are as cheap as 15k CAD and seem to get cheaper every time I see one for sale.

Maybe some of the special edition ones will be worth a bit someday in nice shape. I am not confident that these cars will see the appreciation the original 86 has.

Also, the platform was sold by 3 manufacturers creating a lot of supply. Which could make these cars much more abundant than the 86 when they're the same age.
>>
>>16927344
Isn't that the whole point? The AE86 was a regular old hatchback that became a cult classic in its later years because it was better, flashier, and faster than it was normally considered. Plus, it actually had influence in starting the era of small Japanese sports cars and popularizing drifting as an event and motorsport.

GT86 acts like it's cool and fast, which already separates it from the original. And it's gathered a lot of fans that will swear by their lives that it's a genuinely fast car. Cult classics like the AE86 only become what they are because they're commended for things that weren't as appreciated at the time. The GT86 has nothing special about it, it's just another car.
>>
>>16927344
>He took it because it was a shitty slow car.

Nissan 240sx, s13 for pure drivers car, s14 for more comfy.

This.. Tsuchiya modified the fuck out of his 86s though.

I'm waiting on aftermarket support for GT86 to develop a bit more before I think about getting one. Track cars that you can't modify don't really get you very far.

Right now the 86 aftermarket is at the point where the major retailers/sites are trying to shill shit in "stage" packages. Fuckin gross.
>>
>>16928012
Yeah i haven't seen much out of that flat 4 tho.

No high revving valvetrain, not too many turbo options, no forged pistons, etc.

I think that not having the very same car in racing will limit what people will do to it. At least if TRD actually bothered to make it fast it would give people a blueprint of what to do, and maybe mass produce parts to do so.

By far one of the things that i think the GT86 got wrong compared to the AE86 is that the GT86 was marketed as a sports car.

The AE86 wasn't marketed as such, it was a fucking 2 door corolla. It just so happen to be good on weight distro and be light enough to be used a lot on racing.

If they make a car with an inflated ego they forget why their first car got success to begin with.
>>
>>16928034
Agrees with most everything there.

I just wish the boxers were limited to the BRZ and that Toyota brought their own engine to the table.

And yeah, I think they did kind of lose sight of why the original worked. The GT86 isn't light enough when compared to the original, but yet they decided to underpower it. Fine for a Corolla, not for something you want to sell as a sportscar.

Why the fuck didn't they just make an RWD Corolla that isn't shit?

>>

No, it was a tiny meme in Japan and among specific enthusiasts. Meme car status for the AE86 refers to everyone and their mother knowing what it is, which they do now because of initial d leaking into normie culture with drift meme videos.
