if you own an asian car and you're just using it for reading/clearing simple codes, you can do this

if you have an american car, many will use signaling methods that the counterfeit chips will not support, and if you're using it to gather/display performance data (speed, RPMs, etc.) the scan rate is abysmal compared to the genuine article.
