>>16918790
Pros
>Build Quality
>Old School German engineering
>34 mpg
>Cheap, as long as I'm doing the work
>Will likely live longer than I will
Cons

>Shifter is sloppy
>Central locking system could have been implemented better

Honestly love this thing though. I had to nitpick it pretty hard. Want a cheap daily? If you can find one well sorted, with a stick, aren't afraid of doing routine maintenance, I highly recommend a W123.
>>16918960
If the torque steer and loss of traction is too much for you now. Dont start modifying it. Especially don't put a bigger turbo on it.

Then my trip is lying. It's highway cruising, but I just went 120 miles on 3.5 gallons. I don't know what to tell you man. It's a low mileage motor that's set up right, maybe the wind was at my back? It's kicking ass in the MPG department.
>>16920772
My brother has a 91 turbo diesel and it's hilariously beat to shit. 700,000 km and he hasn't changed the oil in 50,000, the shift linkage feels like stirring a bowl of oatmeal, everything keeps falling apart that isn't the engine, and Christ they are ugly as sin. However, as long as you let it warm up 5-10 minutes before driving it, they will go forever without a rebuild. Just don't warp the block.
>>16923660
There's a huge chance that you measured it wrong. Plus, you can't measure MPGs on just highway cruising alone. Even then, I would estimate it at 28 highway in ideal conditions, and they suck more around town

is that a focus? what edition is it?

Minden NV to Sacramento.
119 miles
I topped the car off in minden. (till the pump shut off automatically)
I drove home. Went a mile or two down the road to the grocery, stopped at the pump and topped off again. Charge was $7.34. Diesel, right now, is $2.77 at that pump.
$7.34 / $2.77/gal = 2.65gal
120mi / 2.65gal = 45.28 mpg, actually. That's going up a mountain pass on NV207, and then hauling across US50. So I mean, I'll keep keeping an eye on it, but I got one that is running on hopes and dreams. That's bank statement, google maps, and gas buddy numbers.
>cheap to fill up and only have to fill up at about two week intervals, even with pretty much very low distance city driving
>its a turbo diesel so it sounds good even though its a little ass car
>fairly smooth ride besides when im stopped and it rattles like a true diesel
>lots of space for shit i dont even have
fairly fun to drive, slow ass acceleration but it has the potential for a decent top speed
>car is a fucking noise factory, the alternator pulley or one of those pulleys or tensioners or the serpentine belt itself makes a fucking annoying ass chirp that can be heard in the cabin at times
>acceleration is absolutely slow as shit
>the transmission wont move when i shift into reverse like 8/10 times, only way to fix it is to wait an indefinite amount of time or shift into park and then back into reverse. when i take off its a little slow, lurches a little bit and then gets going(dont know if thats bad was told if i change the fluid it could make things worse, dont know when it was changed last)

Engine wise, of course, just be on schedule with oil changes, and use good oil. Same with belts and pulleys. The regular stuff.
Dont baby it either, diesels like a trip to the rev heaven every so often. Since i drive country roads and regularly do overtakes topping out in third and fourth gear this is not a problem for me.
Just a note on the oil, with my mk3 we first tried Shell oil which it was consuming a lot of, tnen switched to Valvoline, which was about the same.
Started using Mobil 1 and its a world of difference, uses virtually no oil now.
I got Mobil 1 for the mk4 now too, and it seems to like it.
Also avoid shitty fuel. I have a few trusted pumps, which i regularly use. My mk3 helps with noticing which fuel is worse, because its rougher, so a change in its sound and vibration is very easy to notice.
>>16924318
I just did a full synthetic oil change using quaker state. however fuel wise, i just move around between whats cheapest in the area. its generally BP, Sunoco, or WaWa here. I havent noticed a difference in fuels yet, I just assumed all the rattles are normal from a diesel.

Volk doesn't make TE37s in 4x108 and I don't wanna pay a fortune buying blanks and getting them done at a machine shop or something. 4x108 wheels are scarce. I also don't want to buy wheels with a bunch of wholes for 4x108 and 4x100 or something.
this is my first car, owned for a couple of months now
pros
>the looks, headlights, foglights, ass, hood scoop etc.
>bucket seats
>when turbo kicks in
>small size
cons:
>people seem to want to race me all the time
>the cosmetic damage from previous owner, thought it wouldn't bother me but it kind of does now. but doesn't matter too much since I don't get to put it in a garage yet.
>was a nightmare to learn stick on.
>rear seats don't fold down besides a middle arm rest
>the after market cd player that came with it.
>apparently can be a bit more expensive to service because of the meme engine and the people who are recommended online for servicing and working on the car in my city are all over an hour's drive away

3. Very Aesthetically Pleasing
4. Top Tier Transmission
5. Heated Steering Wheel

Nope, my apartments parking garage.
+ V8 rumbles,screams, growls, roars all day
+ Sterling gray metallic color probably the best color for hiding dirt/grime. Looks completely spotless from a distance, despite a nice coating of dust and general rain grime
+ Leather, power-adjustable seats
+ Electronics package with a nice albeit outdated "Ford MyTouch" display, which includes bluetooth
+ 0 to 60 in 4.3s in ideal conditions
+ Last generation of Mustang that actually looks like a Mustang and not something Euro
+ Breaks necks
+ 5.0L coyote engine is an amazing base for a build that can produce 700+ hp with a supercharger and a few necessary frame mods (I'll never do this though).
+ 430hp/400tq. at the crank with a CAI (no tune yet, because warranty), about as much power as imports that are twice the cost
+ I get giddy thinking about driving it when I haven't driven in more than a few hours
+ 17mpg in NYC (~24-25 highway), for a 5.0L naturally aspirated eight cylinder powerplant. Can't complain
- Bought it used with a ton of problems (tranny fluid leak, brake fluid leak, bald tires, rear stabilizer bar that needed replacement, tire pressure sensor that needed replacement) -- all within the first 1.5 months
- The load growl from the Roush exhausts get shitboxes riled up thinking I'm revving up on them. Meanwhile I'm just tapping the gas to 1500-2000 rpm.
- Wayyy too easy to get in trouble in it. Got my first speeding ticket (78 in a 50) while driving it. You have to live in buttfuck Utah to really enjoy this car to its full potential,
- Live rear axle breaks traction when going through a curve and hitting a bump.
Pros
>good mpg

>rides smooth
>gauge cluster looks cool
>stereo sounds good
>headlights are bright
>roomy for a subcompact
Cons

Mfw I can't count
Pros:
Fun enough
Enough space to fit 4 people in it
Got my MPG up to 27.3 last week
Can spin the tires when they're cold (Summer tires)
Really nice color
Cheap ($900 to buy)
Good exhaust note
Cons
Wheel offset is off (Waiting on enough to buy the new tires, already have the new wheels)
Brakes were welded to the calipers when I bought it
Wheel offset
No A/C (It gets to 100+ degrees here, so yeah...)
Passenger window is broken
Passenger side speakers are blown out
Automatic, but at least it tries
More than five, whatever.
pro
>2000 lbs., go-kart handling
>nice 5 speed

>2 seats
>rattles
>no cupholder
>clutch isn't in the best shape

+ the 5cyl sounds REALLY good
+ heated leather seats

Guess I'll go: 2005 Jeep Liberty
Pros
>roomy
>can actually haul a decent amount of stuff
>surprisingly fun and responsive in low-mid offroad conditions (rescued a trapped CRV in the recent snowstorm)
>easy access to most of the engine, no need to jack it up to get underneath of it
>Jeep 3.7l is kinda juicy for a crossover
Cons
>looks like a soccer mom crossover
>has anemic acceleration when crossing its 2nd and 3rd speeds
>truck tier mpg
>devours oil past 100k miles
>electrical problems out the wazoo

>>16928380
I had an 06 Liberty Renegade. Was a nice-ish car for what I paid. Would have loved it more of Chrysler had been more committed to quality at the time it was built.
Most issues I had were directly related to shoddy engineering and cheap parts. But when it worked, it was great. Like you said, plenty of pep, okay off-road, hauls plenty in the back and hey

Pros
>maximum comfy, heated seats, great air con, sunroof

Cons
>paints is completely and utterly fucked

>dealership servicing is tantamount to rape
>i'm too attached to it and won't ever be able to bring myself to sell it

I've got it close to paid off and I'm at a crossroads about putting a little money into it for some very light performance boosts or just running it into the ground before buying something else.
And I hear you about quality control and cheap parts. If I go the fixer route I have a ton of cheap, stock plastic to replace under the hood even.
Not mine, but very similar
Pros:
>remarkably good handling for a wagon
>amazing visibility, it's an absolute fishbowl
>all the cargo space in the world
>parts are pretty common and the engine bay is nice and spacious
>old enough to not be full of bullshit
>(bonus) square cup holder perfect for ice coffee
Cons:
>a little anaemic
>auto makes some interesting decisions sometimes
>steering wheel makes your hands sticky because it had this nasty wheel cover for ages though now I think about it I can probably just take some iso-pro to it
>interior is getting worn out
>no other cons

Not a clue. I drove my mother-in-law's caddy for 3 days, and getting back into my truck was depressing.
>>16928659
How many miles on it? Mine was just about paid for with 198k on it, and I started getting metal flakes in the oil. Sad things about those Liberty's are the engines. They just weren't made to last past the warranty period, and new or even running used motors are usually more expensive to obtain than the Jeep is worth when the motor fails.
But I'd have done a lift on mine if I wasn't certain the engine was gonna puke right away. Additionally, it needed a bunch of other fixes that all happened right away. I just wound up getting a new car after everything was said and done.
If I could just get my hands on the Diesel variant, I'd have never gotten rid of it, though.
>>16929014
She just hit 140k; got her 4 years ago on 105k. Only problem I had with it is a cracked radiator, and even then it wasn't a critical failure sort of thing, I just noticed a swollen hose when changing the spark plugs.
Only got 1750 ish to pay back and a new raise to come. I may pay it off, save some cash and get a daily driver truck, and then try to frankenstein the Liberty into a goofball muddin' platform.
I know Chrysler-Daimler engines aren't built to last, but whoever had it before me put nothing but highway miles on it and I don't see anything dubious for wear and tear.
pros
>looks good af

They were ran down to the pad's backing for one, but they also don't fit with the wheels. They can't clear the calipers when installed properly, so the PO put them on the opposite sides (Driver's side caliper on passenger's) and then welded the pads to the caliper for currently unknown reasons. It did make them clear the wheel due to being pressed down and welded. Pic attached.

2017 Camry SE
Pros:
- Handling not as bad as ppl cumplain about (mostly journalists repeating the old party line), corners decently
- SE has stiffer suspension and some other tweaks, feels "sporty"
- Lexus-esque look
- Automotive camouflage, have no fear of speeding because cops are less likely to notice you or find you afterwards
Cons:
- Paint is HORRIBAD. Barely 3000 miles and peppered w/rock chips on teh front, and I drive OCD autism style leaving quarter mile of space on the freways, I'm that annoying extra extra cautious driver and it's still destroyed
- 4cyl fuel economy is similar to the v6 model, no improvement in efficiency just less power
- No mirror turn signal indicators available from factoire
- Came stock with Halogen headlamps and high-beams. Even Kias and Hyundais and other shit brands come with HID/LED from teh factory these days. The base Corolla has LED, why the camry doesn't I dunno
