I own a 98 Civic and I want to get into autocrossing. I was looking online and people said when I get better and better, adjustable camber is a must when I use more aggressive tires? What parts do I need for adjustable camber?

Yep that's the only way to adjust it on these cars. If you plan on lowering the car anyway they're a necessity because the stock arms will force the car to have negative camber when lowering it.

Well they better do something cause it's going to get obsoleted, you don't need anything more than a civic these days, the trunk is midsize and the backseat is too.

The 10th gen is really growing on me because I'm a huge midsize sedan guy, but the Accord needs a really cool motor or something to make it appealing like when it had the K24 and the civic had some sohc bullshit, ever since the FA5/FG2 there's no reason to buy an Accord if you like the K, it's got it.
>>
>>16903251
I hear the J series is pretty good. It's been in production since like 1996, though.

They got an energy green Civic in the showroom right next to the hatch (which has nice red trim accents I kinda dig). It's got this offset black stripe on it and it says "CIVIC" on the hood in the official font. Pretty weird. I need to get pics of them together.
>>

J series is a beast, but that K with the timing chain was super modern for the time, it's still kicking ass today, they're only up to 185hp on the K24w Accord these days.

Camry has a more reliable auto trans. I hear it's also a softer ride. Basically get the Camry if you want auto.
>>

Looked it up and it's the same engine as the normal Civic but beefed up. Don't know the power yet but it will have 192lb-ft of torque so it'll probably be a little over 200hp. The last Si made 201hp.

>>
>>16903480
Didn't think about how tall it was. Ks look like they barely fit under a 90's Civic hood from what I've seen.

>>16903467
It's so nice to look at.
>>
>>16903490
If wikipedia is to be believed it means it reaches peak torque @1700 RPM and stays there until 5500.

So basically the turbo is designed to be at full spool really early on, which is nice for regular driving.

>>16903496
Depends on how low you want the motor to sit. K24s are taller than K20s. Worst case with a K you can go to dry sump. With the L series someone is going to have to design a different intake tube for the turbo because right now it's very square.

my VW finally shit the bed this week so yesterday I bought a new '16 Civic LX for $18,500 out the door. I think that's a build quality issue. I wonder if tinting it before that happening helps.

I think this was the absolute bottom dollar. I told him $18,000 and I'd take it on the spot and he checked with his people for like the third time and said he couldn't go any lower. This was after like 3 weeks of looking around after having talked to him. And no manual, I think it's more expensive and I didn't want to spend any more than I had to. I'm going to pick it up Monday because I need to wait until then to send them my diploma (for $500 off) and do some other shit since we finalized the deal a half hour after they closed, but when I get it I'll join the collage.

next is to figure out what I want to do with it mod wise. eventually I'll probably get new rims and tint

>new Re760's 225/45's up mounted up front.
>ride height raised about a 1/2"
>firewall """""trimmed""""" to accommodate header without tilting the engine. Noticeable difference in engine response now that it's mounted properly.
>fixed a few interior rattles
>oil changed

>start car
>bouncy idle - vaccuum leak outta nowhere.

If I give it just the right amount of throttle, around 15 to 16%, I can keep it at around 35MPG at around 80MPH. I only know this from watching my Hondash screen while driving. Any throttle lower than that and my speed starts dropping, and any higher and my MPG tanks. It's very delicate. kek

I really want to buy this 7th gen Civic Si, any thoughts?

https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/6025553102.html

I really want a hot-ish hatch over my pigfat sedan, and I have some liquid asset in my motorcycle and could save up the rest of the $2-3k in cash. Anyone have any pros/cons/personal experience with this particular breed of Civic?
>>
>>16909636
No problem. One of my favorite apps.

>>16909643
I think it's a good price for one of those with less than 100k on it. Never driven one but the ones here that own them love it.
>>
>>16909653
I can't see why someone wouldn't love it, it's basically an old school civic hatch with the K of an RSX in it.
>>
>>16909687
So do you think that would make a fun, quick-ish, reliable daily?

That's all I want really, I have mountain roads less than 10 minutes from my house and I don't like taking the bike up there after the rain (and I'm in Oregon so it rains heaps for like 9 months of the year).
>>
>>16909687

>>16909703

>>
>>16909711
>>16909687
Right on, thanks for the confidence boost. I don't know what problems are common with these but I'll look more into that when I'm closer to having the money.

Good to know I'm looking in the right place for what I want. I initially wanted a FiST but they're just not worth the money (also the infotainment alone is a deal-breaker for me).
>>
just bought a dashcam, do people recommend getting one for the back and one for the front? I just bought one but might consider a second in the future
>>
>>16909720
I can appreciate the performance of the FiST and FoST but I just don't dig the styling of them. Personal taste and all.

EP3 should be a good long lasting car for you if you get it. Limitless aftermarket support for them if you plan on that and the K series engine is extremely well documented as Honda is still using that series even to this day.

>>16909734
If you want one for the back it doesn't hurt. I never bothered because if somebody hits me from the back I'll have the audio of it.

Does anyone have a 16-17 ILX with the DCT?
I remember that Honda had some serious trouble with them in the 14-15 TLX. Has it been fixed yet? Safe to buy?

Googling it turns up a mixed bag of results, but I've worked in sales before so I know people only post when something is wrong so the complainers are just the vocal minority usually.

Didn't do shit with my car. Checked out my friend's new 2007 auto G35S sedan. That thing was way quicker than his older manual 350Z. The updated engine really does make a difference.

I don't know why I'm fucking with my car so much before driving it nearly 400 miles, but I just pulled the trigger on new tune from vittuned for a k20z3 cam gear swap.

I know I won't be able to swap the built motor in for a while and running the rbc intake manifold on a k24a2 with stock vtc robs a bunch of power. Gonna swap over the k20z3's cam gear to get the additional advance on the intake side. Just knowing I could have easily swapped it before moving will eat at me every day if I don't do it.

Only tricky part is making sure to keep tension on the timing chain because if it falls off the crank sprocket I'll be fucked and have to drop the subframe. and if that happens, I'm just gonna pull the oil pan, put the a2 pump on, swap the built head and save the k24 block for another project.

>>
>>16913713
soft rubber mounts?
>>
>>16913694
Here it is:

Here's my guess:

The IACV is contributing too much to the idle speed. The idle speed is affected by how much the butterfly is held open via a screw or on some D series a little metal tab. Secondly, the idle adjustment screw. And finally the IACV.

If the butterfly isn't being held open very much, and the idle adjustment screw isn't letting in a lot of air, the IACV can work overtime to keep the car in the correct idle range. However, since the IACV is a solenoid the operation is erratic and can cause bouncy idle.

Get the car to operating temperature. Reset the ECU. Unplug the IACV. Start the car. Get the car to idle at ~650-700 rpm using the idle adjustment screw and the butterfly adjustment only

Once you do that, turn it off, plug in the IACV, and reset the ECU. Don't touch the throttle for 60-90 seconds and you should notice it idles a lot better, as more of the idle is coming from the butterfly and screw and less is dependent on the IACV

Hopefully that makes sense. Otherwise i can diagram it

I own the trim right before it the EX-T.

The nav you need to pay and it's not that good. If I need GPS plug in my phone with android auto and it give me google maps which is hands down the best GPS same for satellite radio which I can't imagine anyone listening to at that price. Seriously the monthly cost of GPS and XM radio is would be more than my monthly gas needs.

The leather seats are not that comfy sadly they feel cheap-ish. And must get hotter than hell in the sunlight. Other than that it's rain sensing wipers, heated REAR seats, chrome door handles, shark fin antenna and LED lights. all of which is nearly $9500 more canuck bucks when I got my EX-T. I have the same engine and comfy cloth interior and my trim is lighter somehow.

>>16903163

Have you see it? I was at a Honda dealership recently. the 2017 Accord is just as big as the Taurus or a BMW 5 series. It's years ahead over the Toyota Avalon.

Now the V6 is it's own trim level. So you can have a touring 4 cyl or touring V6 with the same everything just 12k more. Not much more power either.

The best trim and equipment is the hybrid accord with it's magical no transmission they're trying to push. But it costs like 3 of my civics put together.

Did you let the ecu learn the idle? The last step.

Typically booster leak would be always high idle not a hunt.

Play with the car and see if you can get steady idle without Iacv hooked up

Yeah I let it sit for a bit and it was sitting around 1100ish. Right before I started recording is when it started bouncing again. Without the IACV I got it to sit in the 650 to 700 range. Didn't give it any throttle though.
>>
>>16914202
Also just about every time I start the car up it'll bounce once or twice before settling. It'll either settle or bounce like crazy like it was doing in the video.
>>
>>16914202
If it's idling at 1100 try bringing the non iacv rpm from 700 to more like 950

I'm ways so conflicted with the new Civics. I love the front, but I'm sichzo AF when it comes to the back. From the angle in that pic, it looks great, but other times it doesn't. I don't know how to feel

I figure this is the right place to ask, but anyone know of a good place to get a mugen wing for a 8th Gen civic?

I'm in Canada

Here's the result. It's very unpredictable.

>>16914308
The front is perfect with the grille in black. Chrome has no place on Civics in my personal opinion. Though I think all the hatch models have them in black.

>>16914337
for one your engine is cold

secondly id consider trying those steps again but this time with a low idle compensation.

see if you are having any kind of effect on it.

It's not super clear from behind my computer if we are doing anything or not; maybe you can lend some insight
>>
>>16914377
I'll have to fiddle with it some more later on. Gotta drive it out of the complex to mess with it so I don't get any complaints from the neighbors.

My lack of a thermostat lets the engine cool down pretty quick but I thought the 170F range was warm enough? Even before the thermostat removal it did the bouncing. Maybe I can borrow my old car from my buddy one day and let him fuck with it.

Before I started messing with it tonight I had the idle screw 100% closed and now it's quite open with minimal change so I guess air is getting in where it shouldn't.
>>
>>16914411

Yeah I don't know. If there's no change in behavior even with idle screw adjustment etc, there some fuckery going on there somewhere. Try driving it a little how it is now and see if it still is problematic
>>
>>16914443
I'll keep you posted as I drive it during work tomorrow. Maybe the ECU was damaged when that wire sparked but I could just be crazy. If that's the case I could borrow my friend's since he's still rebuilding his coupe.

Right now the solution is to just accelerate. kek

When I first had my gsr swap in my rex I didn't have the right map for the ECU and couldnt change it, so it absolutely would not take any throttle without jerking and trying to stall.

The solution was to put the car into open loop (stomp the fucking gas) and it would run fine.

So it would jerk around and sputter and cough and be a complete mess in a parking lot, and then I'd spin the fucking tires and blast down the road.

Hondas are weird

They are but I'd rather have this issue than issues I've seen in co-workers' cars.

Luckily it's not jerking around at all. It's just embarrassing in drive thrus and stop lights. I turn on the AC to shut it up, but then the compressor turns off and does it until the compressor kicks back in.

>>

kek sometimes I attempt to give the car just the tiniest amount of throttle I can to keep it from revving. Throttle body is a bit sticky, though.
