Why does the LT4 need so much damn cooling in the first place? The Camaro ZL1 has 11 (eleven!) heat exchangers. I thought a motor with such huge displacement wouldn't suffer as much as smaller engines.

In the z06 at least, it can be assumed bean counters deleted a heatshield between a cat and the oil cooler. Thus more heat exchangers have to be added to cool the engine, ironically. Also belt superchargers add a lot of heat soak.

I'm not completely familiar with the issues, but I does strike me as odd that the C6 ZR1 was also super charged, only 12 less horsepower (not sure of the torque), and no one ever complained about that thing overheating the way the C7 Z06 does.
