with all the focus on lap times around here, surely some of you hit the track no?

Here's a thread for those who hit the track, please post some pictures of track days, your track vehicle, share experiences, stories, post your local track etc.

Tracks simply aren't practical in America. The overwhelming amount of rules/regulations involved makes them prohibitively expensive to use regularly and also a major pain in the ass.

Basically, liberals destroyed any semblance of fun and freedom when it comes to tracks.

Source: done a few track days on my motorcycle and car. Literally costs $500-$800 per track day when all is said and done between fees and prep.

Fuck I hate liberals.

I plan on doing drag this spring/summer, once the place opens. There's a nice strip 15 minutes away from me and is a great scene to be at in general. Don't think I'm gonna track, at least not until I get some suspension work done.

move to the UK, you know you can get a track day at cadwell park for less than $100 right? at the cheapest they're around $75.

They were $235 for me in AU but they recently upped the price to $285, there are some tracks in AU like symmons plains in tassie that have $60 track days though.

You are the exact same as the SJW's who screech racism every two seconds. Have you written or contacted anyone from your local government? Most counties are also Republican and they couldn't give a fuck about you unless you have money. Which is why rich dudes control and particpate in racing all across America.

Also good luck reversing rules and regulation when teams and highend drivers push to keep up the good safety which we undoubtedly see in the modern era of motorsports. Just apologise for being poor.
>>
>>16890108
i dont get it, why would tracks be more impractical/expensive in a continent where there's so much space that suburbs were born and cars became a necessity

I race $200 shitboxes in enduro's on the local roundy rounds. Confederate flags and alcohol are a fairly common theme. Good times are had by all.

Anyone can run. All you need is a FWD 4 or 6 banger. Pull the glass and lights and try and survive an hour long race.
>>
>>16890108
>running a track cost money
>I have to pay to be apart of it
Poor people. Also where the FUCK do you get $500-$800.

>Texas world speedway
>8 hours of racing
>$200 for one person, $50 for additonal
>$125 per person
>$50 gas
>$25 each person
Then take your car, and race. You're making excuses because you either don't have a good car, or you live in a shit hole. The two big expenses in racing are the initial car, and tires. And good tires on a low powered track car will last many track days.
>>
>>16890249
Fuck yes. I'll bring two cars so I can last 20 minutes
>>
>get moved to base with a race track right next door

>>
>>16890266
Honestly that's about how long the average car last. Normally about 70-85% of the starting field doesn't finish. The local dirt track that runs an annual hangover race is even worse. I ran in the 4 and 8 banger class this year, and somehow managed to finish both. I killed my northstar though.

Pretty much, rubbin's racing. Flat tires are the number one killer. Lot's of debris on the track. Plus a bunch of shitboxes that would never pass inspection and amateur drivers can equal quite the mess.

Yeah he's either retarded or poor, Probably has to make child support payments from being a dumb ass.

Racing is a different story, but in the US $200 for admission for the track day isn't bad at all. From there it's as expensive as you want it to be.

Have a track pic, most people from /dbt/ will be familiar with this one lel.

>>16890421
This is actually very common, for some reason you hear this a lot from people who haven't been to the track yet which is that it costs too much, they pick up some insane figure (Like $1100) then you say, "what track?", look it up and it's nothing near that, it's around the usual $200-300 mark.

Sometimes you also get "They don't allow street cars on it" or "they don't have track days" which are also invariably not true as well.
>>
>>16890370
Ends after an hour or 100 laps on that track. Plenty of quick v6 cars out there, but I've seen shitbox 4 bangers you never expect to finish win.
Of course there's other fun events as well, flagpole race, boat/trailer race, school bus figure 8, demo...
Not my vid but you get the idea, enduro I raced in last september

Pic is at Autobahn Country Club (Joliet IL)

I miss my Ralliart. But I traded up to an Evo X. Haven't had it out yet but soon.

Worst time in Ralliart: Blew a caliper at Road America. Did the bob and weave through the tires at the turn 5 exit. Nearly hit my buddy's trailer pulling back in to park in the paddock. Literally pissing brake fluid.

Luckiest escape: Overcooked entry to turn 1 at Mid-Ohio, slid over the little curb separating track from pit-out, through the grass, stopped a couple feet from the inside fence. Ruts still there two weeks later for Indycar race. No damage, got grass in my helmet.

Best time: anytime it rains. Hunting for grip, passing RWD cars like they're glued to the road.
>>
>>16890627
Were you on OEM calipers? If so how many track days did they put up with before one blew?
>>
>>16890627

>>
>>16890627

>>
>>16890653
Ran OEM calipers for 4 years tracking it all over. Ran out of rear pads at RA but didn't know it, basically grinding metal til the seal gave out. Was only my second track day (first was Sebring). RA is hell on brakes.
After that I went with EBC endurance pads, cheap plain rotors and watched em like a hawk. Ralliart brakes are same as stock Lancer, small and crappy.
Learned the importance of cool-down laps, bought a laser temp gun, kept data. Saw 600F temps at RA and Gingerman.
Bought a set of Evo Recaros, found a great deal on Hankook Ventus slicks, car felt like it was defying physics. Also felt like I could reach out and touch the ground in the carousel at TWS.
But hey I could fit all my tools and a set of tires in the hatch with the seats down. OEM calipers held up til I traded it with 98k on the odo. Rusty as fuck from all the semi-metallic pad dust but that's somebody else's problem now..

Can you bring your shitty sedan to a track and just go all out and have fun or is they not allowed/will you get clowned all day?
>>
>>16891283
you will be ejected if you drive like an idiot, you're sharing the track and the group safety is paramount.

If you just mean show up in your normal sedan and cut some laps that's fine for most tracks, you might need a track license from a car club, a helmet and sometimes to install a fire extinguisher or whatever though.
>>
>>16890066
there's an abandoned airfield with a track on it that I use for free track days and this year I'll start taking part of tuning and telemetry events to get full track days for 20 bucks.

UK? there's no abandoned airfields around here because we're geographically removed from most of the threat of WWII.

anybody who bench races lap times/stats on this site is 100% an underageb& shitter who probably doesn't even have a license. anybody who has ever raced in their life knows that lap times are extremely variable and mean basically nothing other than a ballpark estimate of how fast the car is.

all these people autistically arguing over ~1 second lap time difference are complete retards. different people are faster in different cars, track conditions are different day to day and even minute to minute, etc., way too many variables

>500 bucks for a basic racing training course in my personal shitbox
That's not a terrible price even if the track is minuscule. Maybe when I have some decent tires and more money.
>>
>>16895233
Doesn't matter if the track is miniscule senpai, unless it doesn't have a straight that is at least 1500', but most have more than that because they either double as drag strips or they are used in actual racing circuits.

It isn't like you do one lap and stop. You keep going around in 20-30 sessions if you are at a novice track day HPDE, or longer if it is an open lapping day.

Plus $350-$500, usually buys you a weekend, of at least 2 morning and 2 afternoon sessions of instruction.
>>
>>16895276
pham not senpai... fuck this
>>
>>16895276
Yeah I realize the track being tiny doesn't have any bearing on the techniques you're learning it's just more of a bang for the buck kinda thing to me. Also after looking a little more at their website they do have additional segments of track with longer stretches for the advanced courses with the top one netting you a provisional SCCA license.

I might have to get into the Spec Miata game. I know a guy on the street over has one and I'd guess that track is where he does at least some of his racing. I'll try and talk to him the next time he's working on the car when I'm walking the dog.
