What went wrong?
>>
>>16880239

It's a Hyundai.
>>
no aftermarket support, made by hyundai, trash suspension, numb feeling
>>
>>16880241

Why does everyone shit on Hyundai in this board....
>>
>>16880245

Agree with the no aftermarket support. It's still a relatively new model so.... maybe it'll get some parts soon? idk

because it's shit, thought that was pretty obvious
>>
>>16880265
naw, the ST is younger than the Veloster turbo and it has a huge aftermarket. I could barely find anything for the VT or the Genesis Coupe
>>
>>16880258
Idk, Hyundai has gotten statistically better every year and has a bigger market share than ever. The fill their niche of "not Toyota but not Mitsubishi" pretty well. They aren't as refined as Toyota or Honda but they're good cars.
>>
>>16880258

Hyundai are like modern Toyotas and Hondas.

They are just a generic shitbox car. Their 'sports' models are generally the same frame as their generic brands with a bigger engine and possibly a new transmission but nothing else added.

None of their cars are for enthusiasts. They are for mid-life crisis regret purchases for people without the balls to buy a proper sports car for the same amount.

If you are thinking about buying a Hyundai for that purpose then just laugh off the idea and buy a Mazda MX-5/Miata instead and get an actual fun car to drive than an upgunned econobox.

I don't advocate buying anything Japanese at this moment in time outside of daily driver land. It's been too long with their dominance of the car market that they've become boring and generic with their creations.

No more funky engine choices.
No more interesting suspension.
No more aftermarket shit.

They have become comfortable and it's starting to hurt them.
>>
>>16880278

So we're not gonna even consider the fact that the car looks good? It looks way better than most hatchbacks nowadays.... But everyone just cares about power and speed lol

I agree I enjoy the styling but it's not for everyone more people think it looks ugly than good. And looks have nothing to do with aftermarket support ya dingus

It doesn't look good though. It looks like an aborted hatchback.

If the roof was lowered and the rear window not tighter than a nun's snatch then it might work but it looks retarded.

It's like the Swift's retarded failed abortion brother.

1: That 3 door shit is retarded. It was neat when Saturn did it, but Hyundai could not pull off the same trick gracefully.
2: It's based on the Accent. It is literally an Accent Coupe. There's nothing special going on here.
3: What aftermarket support? Oh congratulations, there's computer tunes available! Like there is for every single turbocharged engine.
4: handling is shit.
5: Build quality is shit.
6: Reliability is shit.
7: They're bought by morons who know absolutely nothing about cars.

In all honesty, the Scion tC, Honda Civic Coupe, and Volkswagen Beetle are all better buys. Personally, I'd have the Scion or the bug over this abomination.

it's the new shitbox tier car, so i don't understand why /o/ wouldn't like them?

they're cheap cars and feel shitty, but come with a warranty. They get bad reviews because of this but the lack of refinement makes it feel like the 90's jdm cars that we all love so much.

>Handling is predominantly safe and predictable, not overly engaging, since the Veloster is based on the Accent, an economy car.

Yeah, they're going to make a successor under the Genesis brand. They're trying to get away from the stigma of being "lmao just a Hyundai."

>>16880761
What year? 2013 Gen Coupes are a huge improvement over the first gen. The interior is nice. Your mistake was getting the 2.0T, not the 3.8, especially if you didn't mod it. Of course it's gonna suck shit with what was probably a 200 hp engine at 3300 lbs. Last gen 3.8 had a 350 hp direct injection engine which was enough.

I'll grant you that the manual transmissions suck.

chewed up chewing tobacco
that gunk under the mini-fridge in the shop only containing genuine American made Budweiser and Miller beer (no light versions)
And the lastly they pack the muffler with the stubs of their Pall Mall Red 100s cigarettes (To minimize noise and improve cabin sound).

How triggered do you have to be to create a trip like that? You're the shameless and dedicated shill.

The only similar thing is that they have vertical grilles. DIfferent shape & design of grille, different headlights, different what-you-call-those-clutter-shit-in-the-cheeks, different indentation on the hood, different overall shape.

>I don't advocate buying anything Japanese at this moment in time outside of daily driver land. It's been too long with their dominance of the car market that they've become boring and generic with their creations.
This.

Honda makes nothing remotely interesting. The new type R civic is hideous just like the rest of their lineup and it has none of the old type R charm.

Toyota hasn't made anything interesting in over a decade, aside from the Toyobaru, which isn't solely a "Toyota" because it's a joint venture.

Nissan makes the GTR, which is fine if you want a muh lap times car that sounds like a synthesized fart played through a loudspeaker. Everything else is shit, aside from the 370z, which needs a performance refresh.

Mazda is still doing ok with their miata and their regular offerings are arguably better than Toyota's when it comes to driving dynamics, but they need a mid-market sports car. RX is dead, just make us a decent FR I4 powered sports coupe to which bests the toyobaru and forces Toyota to step it up.

Subaru's cars are all pigfat and ugly now aside from the toyobaru.

Honda has fallen the farthest though. They used to be world-beaters, now they're "average." Their bikes aren't outdoing the other members of the big 3, and their cars are bloated and fugly.
>>

>>
Have had mine for over a year now. The only real problem with the car is that they made it look cool. People look at it and automatically assume its a sportscar, despite the fact it was never intended to be one.

Case in point, nobody has any fucking problems with the Hyundai Accent. Why? Because it looks as boring as it is intended to be. The Veloster's only mistake is looking cool. It was only ever intended to be a Hyundai Accent for millenials that didn't like the Accent's pedestrian design.

>>
>>16884902
its difficult, but not impossible, to get a fitment like that without rubbing. stiff suspension goes a long way in that regard. cant speak for this particular car but if it see's any track time at all, it likely doesnt rub much.
>>

The dual-clutch automatic never knows what gear to be in yes, but it is still miles better than the CVTs in the rest of the class. Not even a comparison.

i own a N/A version. the only thing truely wrong is that its not Rear wheel drive and could use some more torque. they sell big turbo kits for 3K though but i would rather have a supercharger for no lag

Show me a brand new car with over 200 HP, that is sold for under 30k euros and comes with 7 years of guarantee. Used ones that still have their guarantee go for like 20k, I don't think there's anything comparable at the moment.
Sure they don't perform like some 50k european performance model, but who ever expected this should think about ending his life.

I have a veloster turbo. Ive had it for about a year and a half and so far its treated me well.

When i bought the car I wasn't really sure what I wanted. I didn't really have that good of knowledge about cars, but since then i have learned that I could have

done much better for the money. As far as performance goes its not the best but I wouldn't call it absolute shit. The car doesn't have enough power and the

suspension is too 'mushy'. I think my biggest problem is not the power but the fact that there is so much body roll. The handling improved with new tires and Im

looking to throw on some torsion bars to reduce some of the body roll. This car was a good choice for me in the sense that it gave me a better idea as to what ill

be looking for in my next car. As far as a DD its pretty solid, the interior is nice however the cheap plastic kinda kills it for me.
>>
>>16886878

The Genesis chassis doesn't handle as well, which is the entire point of the Toyobaru, so no. it isn't better.

>4cyl Camaro
Again, no. GM's Ecotec 4 banger is a much better engine than Hyundai's Theta engine. Not only that, but the Camaro gets the Alpha chassis developed by Cadillac, so the Genesis can't compete there.
Plus, if you bring it up, the V6 is like a $1500 option on the Camaro. Not exactly expensive.

And both those cars have better aftermarket support than the Genesis Coupe, but the Genesis coupe has been out longer. It's truly shit. A good first attempt, but the Genesis coupe needs another 2 generations to iron out bugs and get to the level of the competition.

That's my summary too. Hyundai is doing lots of firsts within the last decade. Give them another generation or two to grow up and maybe it will stand next to the old Japans.

Korean cars might have little to no aftermarket and built-in aftermarket support because draconian South Korean laws banned most modifications outside of basic window tinting. They even check if the nuts and bolts are factory during inspection.

Meanwhile there are few American-made aftermarket because not that many people are interested in the Genesis anyways over here. A lose-lose situation.

I have the Lambda GDI engine Gen Coupe, but it's a hell of a step above the first generation Coupe and in a totally different league than the Tiburon. They're learning fast. I really don't get the 2.0T though. Seems like an engine that belongs in a lower weight platform.

My problem with this line of thought is that by then, the competition will have advanced even further leaving Hyundai in the dust.

It is much easier to catch up than R&D new things. That's how Japan caught up with American/European car industry in about half of a century (more if you count the pre-war copies).

Besides, most new shit these days are more useless infotainment and automatic safety features.

For example, when Toyota was starting to journey into a luxury branch (shortly before deciding on creating Lexus), their engineers bought several BMW's, tore them apart, studied them intensely for an year, and then took tons of notes. Now they built something better than BMW's*.

Really makes you dhank.

(Subjective opinion alert)
>>
>>16886944

I doudt you will find much 6 cyl or eco tech support for the camaro.
>>
>>16887048
>>16887066
For me, my problem is Hyundai has no commitment to performance. Kia does, but Hyundai won't release the leash on any of their engineers. You can't design a chassis by studying someone elses and then expect it to handle as good with no proper development of your own> GM spent YEARS at the Nurburgring developing the Camaro's Alpha chassis. The same can be said for the Toyobaru.

>>16887075
The Ecotec engine already has enough support to take the thing to 1400 HP drag cars. What more do you want there? The Ecotec has been around for 17 years now. The aftermarket support is already there. Look up ZZPerformance. They're the most well known.
The LGX V6 in the Camaro is garnering a lot of attention so we will see. Besides, there's a twin turbo variant in the Camaro's sister car so some development will likely come of that as well.

Similar to what I said before, Hyundai is at the rapid growth state and it is playing it safe like Honda and Toyota did until the late 70's. Too safe for its own good I agree.

Right now they are mostly focused on making a name for itself in the economy cars segment; the Genesis is just there for a beginning step (of course after the wishy-washy Tiburon) of "performance." Maybe the name Genesis makes more sense in that perspective.

Anyways it seems like Hyundai's overall build is improving and once it has developed a stable market it will really start to care about handling and other secondary objectives as a car maker.

All things considered, I do not recommend the Genesis. Wait another decade before touching any Hyundai "performance" cars. Their economy cars are okay-tier though.
