Nah

There's a bunch i like, but no single car is THE ONE

GTFO with that 3k civic shit
>>
I spent years saving up for an R32 GTR.

Within a month a realized that an R32 GTR is actually pretty shit.

I sold it within two months of owning the piece of shit.

Haha!
No.
>>
>>16880159
Nope. Because they dont make my dream car so i gotta build it.

2002 or so body style crown vic 4x4 with a blown big block and tilt front clip.

Gonna be an expensive project.

Bonus points for coincidence tho. Lots of hood room and not a shit unibody.

No idea on the motor yet.

Will likely be a fuel injected blown raptor frame for the body if i dont go full trophy truck with it.

Impossible to tell what i like because nobody does this shit.
>>
>>16880211
why? whats so bad about it?
Other than being left hand drive
>>
>>16880207
not really, it's a pigfat VW sedan and it's not even a Phaeton.
>>
>>16880263
Oh it wasn't the LHD, I live in Australia so I'm used to that.

It's the quality of the car that's overall shit. The body is flimsy as fuck, the interior's plastic feels like it's about to break at any moment. And my car had oil leaks all the fucking time.

It isn't even that fast of a car, and you can't even drift in it.
>>
>>16880281
Found a new dream car yet?
>>
>>16880292
Not yet. I've got a decent amount saved up right now and I'm just waiting on something I hope will be a good car. I'm still kinda sour about the R32 so I don't know if I'll be trying out the R34 anytime soon.
>>
>>16880260
I've been thinking lately my dream car will have to be a full custom job
>>
>>16880271
I still dont understand why the Phaeton exists. Why did VW build a luxury sedan that looks like a Passat and put a W12 in it?
>>
>>16880299
how much was it? Kinda always wanted to buy one too bc it looks sick but now might reconsider
>>
>>16880304
I got mine for $45k AUD

Don't know how much they usually run for in the US.
>>
>>16880281
You can add reinforcements to make the chassis less floppy and the plastic interior is kind of the whole appeal for a 90s car I think. The interior is functional, very little for show and it still feels fairly high quality I think.

Of course if you wanted more than something that was like the Evo 9 you would be sorely disappointed.

Goodbye present for their president. They wanted it to meet all these crazy standards and it did, but they made it VW because of him.

I'm sure it's trickled enough into other models that it's been slightly worth it by now.
>>
>>16880300
pretty much why I'd settle for a motorcycle and some sort of A to B appliance

I've read about some guy who makes porsche copies out of old beetle frames or something though (and apparently he read about how germans pretty much pounded old airplane parts together against logs to make cars), so I suppose it couldn't be too bad. Of course 50s/60s stuff isn't ideal performance now.

Current dream cars are the volvo 850 wagon and a buick grand national. If I'm making a mistake talk me out of it.
>>
>>16880908
Wasn't it the purpose of the car? Being a monster in the grip races?
>>
There is a sweet price spot for max enjoyment out of a car. Everything beyond that price will disappoint and everything under that price will blow your mind.

Miata is under that price.
Civic type R too.

Chiron is over that price. Its an awesome piece of machinery but it can never be worth all that dollas

At the end of the day, building your own car is best solution.

I like fwd and rally style builds. You get the multi-functionality and performance, and it's easier to rape on the road unlike rwd.

Ye, sucks pretty bad. Already a 4WD tho. Thought about swapping for a gasser but a rebuild is too much work for me without a dedicated wrenching place.
Found a good looking one with only 100k miles on it, though. Only wanter about $4k for it. That's not a lot in Norway, maybe 1/3 of a mint pickup/burban. Just a shame the frame had spooky amounts of rust on the body mounts.
>>
I felt that disappointment when I drove/rented a new car. It was a 2015 H Sonata in 2015. I expected a nice new car, but it was stock, bottom of the line everything. The Gn is shit.

Those things are giant boomer memes that are not even that fast these days unless you spend a shit ton of money on it in a dwindling number of shops that still know this old engine.

LSx checy engines have pretty much replaced the stupid Buick motor in any GM go fast efforts. The GN has zero redeeming values except for the blacked out looks (assuming you find one in black) but that could be easily ,matched by numerous other SBC powered options.

Do an LSx swap into a third gen Fbod, or another B-bod.

For me it was the evoX MR. I always wanted an Evo since they first came to the states in 2003. Finally in 2011 I land a job where I could afford one. I went down to the Mitsubishi dealer and bought one right off the show room floor. It only took about a week and half before I started to realize it wasn't as good as I thought it was. It had very little in the way of comforts. Manual seats that only sled forward and back, very basic radio, no real power for its weight and worse of all I couldn't really mod it that much because the dct transmission was weak as shit. I kept that car for 2 years then the first chance I got I sold it.
>>
>>16880159
OP, you can't go into a car expecting to to be "perfect" or "the one".
You learn to love the car you have because it's YOUR car.

I drive a car that isn't really that great. 140 HP factory (it's probably lost a ton), no AC, no heater, no power steering or anti-lock braking, the tires break traction really easily in wet driving conditions and I'm having to work on it a lot.

But I love the car because it's my car.

And to be fair, I kind of went into it not expecting an amazing car. If you hype something up for yourself you're more than probably going to be disappointed.

Release an absolutely exceptional car but put a humdrum badge on it, charge way too much ensuring it's a sales flop, end production run early, let the second hand values bottom out, and 20 years after the last one rolled off the line they'll either be incredibly valuable collectors items OR 99% of everything will be destroyed in nuclear holocaust and the only things to survive are cockroaches, gs400guy and Phaetons

That's kinda how it went with my S2000. It took longer for the shine to wear off, but after then, the very small niche in which it excelled did not balance out its awfulness everywhere else. Still, I wish I'd kept it. Hopefully soon I'll get another one as a second car.

Miserable on road trips. All of the things that make it great on glassy smooth canyon roads make it horrible to go long distances with if you're driving on typical trashed American roads. Even a quick 100 mile drive to the coast from my home would leave me wanting a back massage at the end. Don't even get me started on how much fun it was when I had to drive it home the night after breaking three ribs snowboarding. Could be tiring to drive because of the cramped interior, the harsh ride, and having to focus hard on driving if the roads are anything less than ideal.

Most of my passengers didn't like it much, either. By way of comparison, I have at least two friends who will murder me if I swap my current car, a S60R, for anything that doesn't have a world-class interior and decent power. It's a weirdly nice compliment when you're told to keep a car forever or die.

Don't get me wrong, the S2000 is a good car, but as an only car, nope. I've been jonesing to buy another one as a second car, tho, because the S60R doesn't try to kill me for fucking up like the S did, and I miss that.
>>
>>16890929
Pretty much the same thing happened to me, bought a blue 1990 for 2k on a whim when I was debating on what kind of sports car I wanted with a budget of 40k. Figured I'd drive it until I figured out what I wanted and I'd just flip it for around what I got it.

Three years later and I still just have it and my truck.

>god i want a pop-up headlight miata but I don't think I can justify buying a 20+ year old car I feel like everything would just start breaking down because of age

I honestly have more faith in cars manufactured from 85-2000 than anything since.

I have had major problems with every new car i've bought in the last decade and have always ended up having to use my cheap beater Forester as a backup whilst I wait for entire engines, gearboxes...and all sorts of components that should not be failing in a new car to be replaced under warranty. *The* absolute worst was my my Audi A5, bought new, 4 years old, less than 50,000k's meticulously maintained, gearbox packs up out of warranty, 28k to replace it and that was after having spent thousands just trying to diagnose the problem.

In all honestly, you are so much better off buying something old and fixing those cheap (and believe me, they are cheap) little problems it will have due to age than buying anything new that doesn't have a warranty, and it isn't just expensive European stuff, even newer cheap Korean and Japanese stuff can stupidly expensive to fix, as part of my fleet I run a number of Hyundai iload vans and whilst for the most part they've honestly been some of the most reliable vans i've ever had....when they do pack up, you're looking at 10k for a new engine, 5k for a clutch etc. Meanwhile for 5k I could almost completely rebuild my Forester and it'd do another 300,000k's with no fucks given.

I love my Volvos, everything that's broken has been easy and cheap to fix. I had to do a lot more maintenance work on my '96 850R than my '69 140, but neither ever left me stranded.

I'd agree that cars made from the 80s to the early 2000s are the best balance between non dangerous driving characteristics, and relative simplicity and reliability.

I had a chick friend in high school who was given her dad's "old car that he never got rid of" for her first car. It was an 85 gsl-se. Almost dated her until I realized she'd let me drive it without the commitment.. but this brings up a question I had

It had a body kit on it that her dad says was a factory option. Nose wasn't pointy, tasteful skirts. I've never been able to find another. Do you know about this?
