P.S. For the sake of this thread, I'm fucking amazing at holding powerslides through tight corners or 90° intersections, but when it comes to long sweepers at 90 mph I can swing the rear but I'm too pussy to hold it at that speed. I'm still honestly one of the best 10 drifters on /o/.

I started learning "drifting" in 2007 by doing progressively-wider donuts in empty parking lots with the STi I had then. I got my current lsd-miata in 2008 and that really took things to the next level. By 2010 I would powerslide corners on the road every now and then. Nowadays I almost always slide all the way through at least 2 or 3 corners almost every day. I've spun out plenty of times but I've never run off the road or crashed.

I live in the middle of fucking nowhere, Alabama near a lake with a ton of scenic hilly, curvy, pothole-free roads so there are lots of opportunities to test shit out with no one around.

Why isn't Takumi sporting a 1979 AMC Spirit AMX? Weight-wise and power wise, it falls in line with the AE86. The only anarchism is the fact that the AMC is actually a weird vehicle in comparison to the thoroughly common AE86. Because presumably American D would be more about straight lines than mountain passes, and in that case the Fox platform Mustang is an almost perfect replacement for the AE86 Trueno- an (at its time) extremely common car that isn't actually all that great stock but wound up with a massive fanbase who all modify it to their needs. American D needs to take notes from Misfile, which varies the races by putting them not just on mountain roads, but snow-covered dirt tracks, sandy beach parking lots, and the spiraling road leading down into a dirt pit/mine pit/etc.

Back country roads are fine, but let's get some variety as far as course types. The touge is only so exciting when considering strategies, what cars work well, etc.

Also, Antonio DeGumi needs to lose more than just the races he pops engines in. And his dad should buy an import 4WD turbo later in the series to shock and offend his son into realizing that there's more to racing than just American cars.

I really want to see if I can convince my artist GF to do a few panels of this, but she's already working on a few projects and will probably break up with me for suggesting something so autistic.

I once was driving at 100 mph in a stock mazda b2600 down the highway when a truck impinged onto my lane and I took a 25 mph advisory jughandle intersection at 85 by stomping the gas to the floor slamming into 4th gear and letting the truck fling around. it's 'cause they had full arcs and complete characters that could carry them from being antagonists to side characters to supporting characters (in the ova). they're some of the most complete in the cast, both complete in these sense of having nuance in the characterization and in the sense of feeling like authentic people (with their own circle of relationships instead of existing just to bounce off the mc and disappear like so many other characters in initial d and beyond)

To be fair, Initial D is one of the more grounded anime to exist, at least for the first few seasons. Then it became DBZ with cars.

The whole thing behind Initial D and why the 86 wins:

A heavier car going into a tight corner downhill shifts a fuckton of weight to the front under braking, unloading the rear suspension. This makes it difficult for them to trail brake into a corner or transfer their weight as effectively. It also puts a ton of strain on the front tires. A light car, with the right driver, can use this to their advantage by minimizing vehicle speed and engine speed losses through the corner while the heavier car has to speed back up coming out of each corner. Tight gear ratios also help in such races.

The 86 GTS Trueno weighs 2200 lbs.
The Cappuccino weighs 1600.

Rotatory man said in the fifth stage that Keisuke and Takumi surpassed him long time ago. And Takumi is still a decade behind Bunta when it comes to driving techniques. Bunta is the Yujiro Hanma of Initial D, nobody can defeat him or tie against him.

Ryosuke was always better than both of them in my opinion, even by the end. He's essentially a highly developed form of Takumi in the way he controls his car and analyzes his opponent. Takumi would never be able to pull off the shit he did against the Evo in Stage 2 or the GT-R in Stage 4 without years and years of experience. And Keisuke is too orthodox to even attempt the same kind of racing that Ryosuke and Takumi go for.

I think the fact alone that Ryosuke was able to take Takumi and train him to be a truly great racer beyond what Bunta was capable (or willing) of shows that Ryosuke at least had much more understanding of racing theory than Bunta did. Bunta is just like God Hand; they even have the same driving technique. And both of them focus more on natural concentration than analyzing and overcoming the strengths/weaknesses of their opponent or their car. Bunta may have been shown to be a decent mechanic, but even he admitted that Ryosuke was better. And Bunta didn't even know what some of the new cars Takumi was going up against were.

Bunta was the one who started the impreza vs 86 training.
He just wants Takumi to improve by his own hand. While the comparison with God hand is accurate, Bunta still seems to be years ahead of any other racer, including his son.

Besides Takumi can pull the same stuff Ryosuke did against the GTR, the leader of Zero mentions Takahashi is using the same techniques fujiwara is famous for. The defeat of the EVO was based on blocking him to prevent Sudo from using his AWD and misfiring system. Takumi analizes weakness like Ryosuke since his defeat against the impreza type R.


Takahashi improved thanks to Takumi, and by the end of the show he even admits he is not a rival for his brother or Tofu boy.

Ryosuke is a clever and intelligent, but he saw his limitations, unlike Dagumi and his brother, which he mentions have limitless potential.

By the end of both and anime Takumi just learned the one hand technique but was never able to do it with the 86, unlike Bunta.

Bunta is still the strongest character and he is undefeated.
