They still exist but everything in their line up is a rebadge of something else.

The Commodore is now a Opel Insignia/Buick Regal

There's actually talk of importing the Chevy Silverado to Australia to replace the Holden utes.

Alot of people liked the supercharged LSJ because they would add a turbo and make it twincharged. Dumbass neighbor did it without upgrading internals... you see where this story is going XD

>>16871485
internals on the LSJ are good to around 400 HP. Your neighbor was a dumbass who did something wrong.

>>16871466
Adding a turbo is ridiculously easy. Go to the junkyard and grab the manifold and turbo off a 2003+ Saab 9-3 sedan/wagon. It's the same basic engine as the LSJ, but with a turbo instead of a blower. Bolts right up to the 2.2L and 2.4L heads. From there, you can piece together your own kit. Cavalier guys do it all the time.
>>
>>16871519
Good to know, I knew the 2.2 and 2.4 matched up but I didn't think the 2.0 would fit the 2.4. You have been a great help sir. I always assumed junkyards would take and sell that shit as quick as possible
>>
>>16870775
Ah k, makes sense, but that's nothing to do with "replacing the Holden utes". The Isuzu based Colorado (and every other midsize competitor) already has that market.
>>
>>16871618
The Colorado though is a lot smaller than the Silverado.
In America, we get the Colorado, and the Silverado, and the SIlverado is so much bigger and more capable, it isn't even funny.

>>

Oh dear, someones mad.

Is it because the SS had a better engine the entire run? The fact it's cheaper in the US after a boat ride? Because it has HSV parts on it?

Don't blame us because Ford, GM, and Toyota all abandoned your continent at once. Or the fact your currency is better used as toilet paper.

They got the job done and then some, really. At the very least, in my experiences with the car. Kept up with a tuned Saab, some maxima, and a v8 lexus(?). Until 110mph when the ECU decided fun isn't part of retirement. 0-60 in 5.something seconds, stock, and the engine has got room to improve. Bit more cash and I'm genuinely excited to see where it stands
>>
>>16871733
My post had nothing to do with the ss? It has mag ride which is goat but that American build quality tho
Certainly better than the commodore ss
But it's no gts with the LSA that's for sure

My point was that no one in australia wants the Silverado
Size and how much it can tow are irrelevant to us because we have actual trucks for hauling shit and a larger average penis size
They are already available but no one buys them unless it's used as some sort of advertisement vehicle
>>

Ausfag here, we're talking about the 1/2 ton Silverado, not 2500HD Silverado that's brought in as a grey import and sold to caravanners.
There's most definitely a market for the 1500 Silverado here for the market after something more heavy duty than a midsize pickup, the same way the VDJ79 is sold along side the Hilux. With the recently departed Y61 Patrol cab-chassis, that market has opened up a little. But ultimately I think the full size Silverado will need a diesel option if it's going to be of any success here.

My original point is the Silverado is in no way a replacement for the outgoing Commodore ute.

Be careful of any recent VW turbo cars, they can be sleepers if they are APR/GIAC/unitronic/neuspeed tuned.

Even mundane 1.8t Jettas can do sub 6 second 0-60 sprints so be careful especially if you drive anything with 300 or less horsepower.

Dude, you realize the right way does not include any form of stop watch right? You can VERY easily be off by more than a full second.

The right way is using an OBD-II device such as a scangauge or ultragauge.

I promise your car isnt even close to 5.whatever. Thats Taurus 3.5 turbo SHO times...
>>
>>16872059
Yeah I was pleasantly surprised when I first pushed it on the twisties
>>

My friend also has a Fusion Sport (2011) and we tested it on the ultraguage.

6.81 seconds 0-60.

My APR tuned 1.8t did it 5.97 seconds

Anyone here saying their mercury, taurus or whatever with an N/A V6 is doing 5.x is terrible at timing 0-60 runs.

I don't think it counts as a factory sleeper if you can't buy one new from the factory

I think they usually sell for less than msrp because dealers can barely get rid of them. Also, a manual SS will probably hold its value better than just about any competitor since it's getting discontinued... just look at the Pontiac G8.

My personal favorite is the Galant VR-4.

It isn't fast (stock) by today's standards, but it was basically the Evo before there was an Evo. Turbo 4G63, active AWD, AWS, 5-speed only, etc.. Since it has the same engine as early Evos and DSMs you can mod it accordingly. And look at it! Even most car guys these days would have no idea - normies would just figure you're poor.

Where the fuck did you get that number? C&D tested one and got 13.0 @ 111 mph.

that is absolute best case scenario in perfect conditions
in the real world they will get rekt by a bone stock evo or sti

Silverado/Sierra 2500 Duramax.
Stick a bigger turbo on and some sticky tires and it'll fly. (In a straight line)
>>
>>16875075
These are about as far from a sleeper as you can get, everyone knows that half the people with these behemoths turn the boost way up and lift the trucks like 1 foot +.

Funny enough they are still pigfat slow, sure they are faster than other trucks their size but they are not sleepers by any definition.

To me, a sleeper would need to be fully unassuming and at least be faster than 90% of whats on the road.
>>
>>16872959
Nope, not a sleeper. Everyone knows "mazda speed" cars are "sports cars". The whole image of mazda as a company is "Zoom zoom".

Verdict, not a sleeper.

IF your car is something that ricers would try to race, then its not a sleeper.

GM did and no one bought them. Americans love yuuuge suv and shitty korean shitboxes.
>>
>>16877395
The Holden's that came to the states were the SS, G8, and Cadillac Catera
Before Pontiac was killed the G8s were strong sellers
The SS isn't selling well because GM doesn't want to promote it because they just want the platform to die
The Catera didn't sell well because they gave it the Opel 3.0 V6 and it was underpowered for the sent they were trying to enter

The Redline had a (functional) huge wing, and a very aggressive body kit.
It's not exactly flying under the radar.

Maxima for the inbetween years of the 5.5gen when they briefly had a VQ35DE & 6-Speed in a chassis that couldn't handle the power & ended up torque steering & chewing thru wheel bearings like crazy.

These cars rust real bad. I have a 2000 maxima and the radiator support rusted off. I had to get it welded because my engine was sagging. I cant imagine the rust covered chassis handling a 3.5l. Nissans rust real bad in general.

So... because it's not as fast as another car, it's not fast? Idiot. Your car, by that logic, is slow as fuck. I watched a GT-R go 6 sec in the 1/4 mile this weekend at TX2K. Everything else is shit.

>being this insecure about a car purchase
>>
>>16872129
Not a sleeper if your tranny explodes at the launch.
>>

Is the wing really that functional though? I've seen pics without it and I think it looks better. And besides the different front end it looks just like a normal ion to me

So he might beat you in the first race, but three races in he'll be losing to a Camry because his battery is discharged.

>Is the wing really that functional though?
Yes. The wings on the Ion Redline and Cobalt SS were bolt functional. It actually does have a noticeable effect on handling (when going hard through corners) if you remove it. IIRC, GM said the wing reduces top speed by about 20 mph all in the name of handling.

Just like the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, the wing is functional.
