How much difference would I feel from adding an induction kit to my standard Ford Mondeo 2.0 2008?

I don't have a lot of money to splash out, but I figured if it was worth it, this would be a good way to spend the extra money I have this month.
>>
Are factory performance accessories worth it?
In my case in particular, I have a Yaris and I'm wondering if a TRD sway bar would help.

Depends on the part, a thicker sway bar would improve cornering but won't do much if you still have the base stock shocks and springs.

Its a 91 240sx, I left the car sitting in the cold too long and the battery died, after jumping it, the dash almost continuously flashes, and even flashes for a bit after shutting the car off.

So my truck was totaled by my parents when they needed to use it. We called the insurance, they are going to come and check it and stuff. Pic related is the damage that was caused.

Anyways, Im 18 and I am possibly not going to have a car for a few weeks depending on whats the time estimate for the repairs.

Anyone have a clue on renting cars at 18? Any idea if its possible? I have done extensive research on the subject and I keep getting mixed answers and anecdotal stuff. Any true answer here or something I can fall on?

Same problem when you want to make a left turn, you don't see as far ahead.
Your passenger has to step out into the street when you bring him somewhere and park on the curb.

my car gets a wicked steering wobble when braking at speeds higher than say 40-45mph. it doesnt make the car shake but the steering wheel goes nuts wobbling about 5* back and forth. i was thinking its warped rotors but it occurred to me it only happens at higher speeds (absolutely nothing happens at say 25 or 35) and there is no lump in the brake pedal at any speed either under heavy or light braking. what else could cause a brake wobble like this? the steering wheel has virtually no play either and when driving the car doesnt drift or randomly jerk or anything.

>>
>>16866621
Most likely your stock headunit will not put out too many watts, so unless your speakers are blown, then getting new speakers wound improve the sound substantially. There are like "bass amplifiers" and other inline things you can put in there, but I've seen little success from these. To get better quality speakers, with more wattage, you will most likely need an amplifier, and to control that amplifier probably a new headunit. Say you got a $100 headunit (nice kenwood or pioneer) expect $25 for the installation harness (if you want to do it right and not just splice directly into your factory harness) then you need an amplifier and speakers, maybe 250watt and the installation kit.

That would give you a nice sound quality that will be plenty loud. The subwoofers are optional. There are small compact options, or huge monstrosities that will blow out your struts they are so heavy. Its mainly preference, but if you want just better sound quality then you can go for a new head unit, new door speakers, amplifier, amp installation kit, also can use the headunits power to go to 4 extra tweeters for super cheap too.

hope this helps some way.

Why would fluids be coming from the muffler or front bumper?

And FYI AC condensers can and do put out that much Condensation, or your other option would be that there collected water in your sunroof drains.

As well you, yourself said 'it doesn't seem like oil' so that would rule that out, making your photo useless.

Have you tasted it yet? Or are you just going to bloviate more and show how much you fucked up by being both cartarded and having bought a BMW.

Look at Scholarships and student visas for students travelling abroad. Extending your visit to years via a work permit and doing the work you studied in college will go a long way. After that the process of getting your green card should have already been started and your just on watch to make sure you don't do anything stupid (touch kids, rape, and murder for example) and be brought into court for said things.

Also if your studying certain things you may be able to get something like a h-1b which is basically a green card but you need to move to a place that is underserved and looking for workers in that field.

Could be a bad distributor, I had the same thing happen with my 8v mk2 GTI when I swapped the old one for a Bosch replacement. Put the old one back on and it ran fine.
If not, it might have something to do the thermostat. Just a suggestion though, I'm no mechanic.

Might be worth asking around for a VW specialist, they're much cheaper and more helpful than a dealership most of the time but a lot of mechanics don't know the little things that cause shit like this in vee dub engines.

The ones in your pictures are racing tires, so the whole logo is a sticker, along with the barcode next to it.

You can buy paint markers of whatever colour you want if you want to replicate the logo in your picture, or you can go to a race with a tire supplier of your choice and ask them for stickers

See if you can reach the hinges of the glove box to open it from there.
Is it one of those gloveboxes with the key lock? If yes, try to use the key to open it.
You can also try to open the dashboard from the side panel that is usually hidden by the door (pic related, it's usually just a plastic panel that you pull) and see if you can access the glovebox from there somehow.

Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll have to break the thing.

Farts dissipate fast. What you smell days later is fecal matter from people who stain their underwear. The sweat and buttcrack juice soak thru the thin clothing and go into your seat. You could also be smelling cross-contamination. If you sit in the public library seat that some homeless person was using, you could pick up fecal matter from there and transfer it to your car.

By somewhat like it you mean rwd and sporty? In all honesty just pick a manufacturer you like, and pick a car they make that you like.

If you like Nissan and think the 350z kicks ass, then the 350z is the only car that will scratch your itch.

If you want a straightforward answer, then you want a 3rd gen celica convertible. In red.

This. but I'm pretty new to /o/ and I come here for useful advice, looking at cars, and because I've wanted to better myself as a car owner.

My personal opinion is you should do the jobs you have adequate tools and time for. I don't have a garage, experience, or a lot of tools so I'm limited to what I can reach by hand. Depends, if you're coming up on a red light and you're in 4th, leave it there until your rpms hit around 1000 then slip it into neutral and use your brakes to finish. Going from 4th to 3rd to 2nd and so on wastes gas if you keep rev matching, idling in neutral uses less gas. As my father told me "Brakes are cheaper than engines."

Should I buy an automatic car because I cannot drive well with a manual car?
>>
Is buying an old BMW as a daily driver a bad idea?

Are the mechanic costs just a meme or is it really unsustainable?
>>
>>16877610
The costs are.....surprising. Randomly you're window motor will burn out and instead of a 70$ duralast motor, its a 300-400$ german brand. Many people cant justify 300$ for a window motor. The car is covered in overengineered hardware that work great until it breaks. Scotty, may he rest in peace, was right about Mercedes being money pits, but you could always get lucky and get the perfect working one that continues to run great for the next 5 years.
>>
>>16877609
If you sit in traffic to get to work everyday, go automatic, if you live and work in the suburbs, man up, learn how to drive stick. Get more power and gas mileage for learning a simple skill that takes no longer than an hour to master.

When filling a tire does one use the PSI according to the sticker in the door frame or the PSI on the tire wall? You "should" be using a rim and tire to the sizes of your manufacturer in which case, follow the doorframe PSI. If you're comfortable enough picking your own tire sizes and going off the manufacturer choices, you'd probably know enough to choose your correct PSI.

alignments are recommended from most manufacturer's every 40 000 km or 2 years. this is to account for subtle wear in the suspension. Now some brands like BMW also recommend getting your tires balanced every tire rotation or 10 000 km. This is to account for the overall decrease in weight as the tread wears down. realistically, only get the balanced if you feel a vibration. If a tire is out of balance by 0.25 oz or 10 grams most people won't be able to feel it. The max I will put on a 17' rim is 3 oz and if rim and tire requires that much weight the rim usually is slightly out of round or "wobbles" or "hops" when spinning. Only solution is replacing or straightening the rim which is costly.

You don't need the part number, that 6PK2103 code is what describes the belt, it means it has 6 grooves and it's 2103mm long so any belt with the same code should work. All belts are described by a variation of that number (example in pic related: 6PK2115 is a belt with 6 grooves and is 2115mm long)
I'm surprised the guy at the part store didn't ask you to check that number if the Ford part number wasn't available.

Get the one you had, a 5mm difference is not a big deal if only the 2100 is available, it will just be a little bit harder to put on if your car doesn't have a tensioner (which most fords in Europe don't)

Pic related is the official ford part. It's basically a metal guide that snaps on the pulley and eases the belt in as you turn the crank, there are two of them.

Sometimes they sell it as an aftermarket kit, I saw them come in the same box the belt was in a few times
>>
>>16879845
Whats the best way to stretch them without the kit?
>>
>>16879869
Jam a screwdriver between the belt and the pulley, hold it tight while you turn the crank.
They are supposed to be stretched while installed so don't be afraid to pull hard

They can be very lax, or very dickish. It really really depends. The neighborhood I live in has "no street parking signs" posted, but the only time cars get towed is on trash day and frankly I don't blame them for that since the streets are narrow and the trash truck has to get through. Yes, I've been towed. It sucked.

I'm planning on importing an early 90's Nissan GT-R R32, what should I expect in terms of extra cost and inspections and whatnot? Does it need to be crash tested and be tested by the EPA and all that nonsense or is it exempt from that because of the 25 year rule?

I live in Florida if that helps any.

Need clutch job soon, start getting quotes.

One place offers 700 for labor and 400 for the clutch, so I ask them if they'll do the job with the clutch I already have ordered.

How much of a fucking retard is this asshole and how does he expect this to convince me to use his OEM parts over the $130 dollar clutch I ordered on rockauto?

>uses commas as periods for an elpsis

I wouldn't deal with someone who can't write properly.

I don't even know what's up his ass. Pretty sure they get money based on labor, not parts. Though they probably so mark up the parts too somewhat. So I'm not sure what this asshole is on about but I've never been a mechanic so I could be wrong.

Look for someone else.
>>
>>16881779
There's a parts markup, that they get a cut of, from parts shops that they work with.

Although, they're basically right about the other things. You gotta make sure you get the right part, and their warranty won't apply, although the "bringing your own burger to mcdonalds and asking them to cook it" bit is fucking bullshit, and I'd avoid that shop just for that.

A mechanic's shop is paid to fix shit. Not bitch about the customers not using their preferred price gouging markup distributor.
>>
>>16881986
also $400 is one hell of a markup from $85 on rockauto.com for a basic oem clutch. I dont know how they can justify a 400% markup on any part that isnt scarce or hard to find.
>>
>>16882013
Sounds like a standard markup to me. There's a markup from the manufacturer to the distributor, the distributor to retail, and retail to the shop, and the shop to you.

I'm pretty sure rockauto just gets the parts from the distributor, or directly from the manufacturer when they can. Also, the cost of the part from the shop includes the warranty, just so that if something does go wrong, they're not losing as much money.

>Don't need complainers who are afraid of confrontation
If you become intimidating, the HOA board members will refuse to talk to you. Instead, they will have their legal representative (a lawyer) talk to you. Of course, the lawyer bill appears as a bill to you which if you don't pay, it converts to a lien against your property. Liens wreck your credit rating so don't let it get that far.

Want to avoid talking to lawyers? Don't be intimidating to people. Once you become scary, it is their right to not want to talk to the scary person, but have the lawyer do the talking instead.

Yes you dumb leeches, mechanics (all of them) get a cut on the parts they are SELLING you. It's not charity work, it's a business, they sell parts that you pay and they profit from it.
The parts store gives them a discount on parts (and they pay even more discounted parts as well or they wouldn't profit) so the final customer pays the sticker price.

I don't know why you idiots expect them to sell your parts and not profit from them.

On top of paying for labor, you pay for the fact that the parts are delivered to the shop in a timely fashion and installed right away instead of having to bring your fatasses to the parts store yourself, pay for them the full price and then bring them to the mechanic, not to mention that you have a warranty on those parts if bought via the mechanic itself.

Profit from parts can be a good chunk of a mechanic's income, so it's normal that they get pissed when people bring their own parts.

Expecting them to welcome you with open arms when you bring the parts yourself is retarded and idiotic.

Holy fuck i'm not even a mechanic but you guys are such massive fucking idiots

the warranty on the part is not worth over 300% the cost of the part.
>>
>>16882565
Rockauto is not a good reference for prices.
It can get you a very good deal of course, but if you want to know if the mechanic is jewing you hard you have to call a bunch of parts store around the area and see what prices they make. Chances are the prices they make will be slightly lower if not equal to the ones the mechanic asked you, because none of them get parts from rockauto and there is a long chain of markups that lead to the prices they ask.

Depending on the parts, mechanics get between 10 and 50% discount most of the times on the parts they buy and usually they simply apply sticker price to the customer. So 400% is high for rockauto standard, but it's probably much lower if you use conventional part stores as a reference

If I'm looking for used car, and we assume the previous owner got all the maintenance done on time so it's still in a good condition, what kind of mileage on a car would I want to look for that would assumingly have had all the major things taken care of. I was thinking it would usually be in intervals of 50,000 miles.
Basically, I don't want to buy a car that needs stuff like time belts, water pump, etc right after I buy it. Yes, yes, I know I can "save money" by doing it myself but the parts still cost and the goal would be actually have time to save up when the job is needed.

Hard to find a vehicle kept in such a condition, but I can believe. As well as hope the person didn't dump the car before it needed that maintenance.

Got dented in a parking lot fucking twice within the same week. Both dents are about 1", kinda like pic related except there's paint scraped off too (car is black so it's very visible).

I never had to deal with that shit so I'm kinda not sure where to start. The dealer referred me to their preferred estimator/body shop, but I want to know what to expect.

1. Will it be covered by Comprehensive or Collision? Or not at all? I don't know who did this, I parked in an empty lot, X hour later I come back with empty spaces beside me and there's dents in my fucking doors.
2. If not covered, how much is it gonna bleed my wallet? It's two very similar dents, unfortunately on two separate doors.
3. Should I go with the shop recommended by the dealer, or find my own place? Mind you I have no idea how to tell a good place from bad and if I'm being bullshitted.
4. Will this fuck my future premiums over if I get it under insurance? I mean, I'm not at fault here, but I've only heard horror stories about insurers fucking you over.

Sorry, I'm new to this. Vehicle is 2016 Golf with 2 years lease remaining on it.
>>
>>16883088

>1. Will it be covered by Comprehensive or Collision? Or not at all?
Ask your insurance company, you pay them to consult you about this stuff, among other things. They won't fuck you over for asking.

>2. If not covered, how much is it gonna bleed my wallet? It's two very similar dents, unfortunately on two separate doors.
Nobody here will give you a reasonable answer, especially since you didn't say where you live. Search a few body shop close to you and ask them how much it would cost to repair a dent that went deep to the metal.
Get a few quotes so you can see what's the average price.

>3. Should I go with the shop recommended by the dealer, or find my own place?
If it's covered by insurance yes, otherwise refer to point 2 and choose the one you like the most.

>4. Will this fuck my future premiums over if I get it under insurance?
Same as point 1. If you are afraid to ask them, the insurance contract you signed tells you how much premium will raise depending on what kind of coverage you are using.
>>
>>16883088
>Will this fuck my future premiums over if I get it under insurance?
Your insurance has a deductible. So you are out of pocket for deductibles which is typical for insurance.

Was there a round rock nearby on the ground? If there was a homeless person that you didn't donate to, maybe he got mad and got revenge on you for stiffing him.

Most places want to sell you sets, too, which sucks.
>>
>>16883088

>1
That's gonna be under comp. Comp is anything that does not occur from a collision while you are operating. Hence the name "comprehensive."
>2
That looks like it could be pulled out reasonably easily but paint is gonna be killer. It's gonna be covered under your comp though, you just need to know your deductible
>3
Do a little bit of research, dealer recommended shops might be good, might be trash as well. THE #1 clue to look for: look for boomers with classics and richfags with exotics. If a shop does brisk business with restorations and lambos and shit, you bet your ass they do at least a passable job.
>4
Shouldn't effect premiums at all for the first one. Talk to them about it though. Comp claims are not "I fucked up and stuffed it" claims, they're just the occasional "shit happens" type thing that will only raise a red flag if you start making claims over and over.

Not entirely sure what your asking but a certified pre owned car from dealership would be your best bet.

If you buy a car from a private party and expect that, you'll never find it. Almost private used cars over 3 or 4 years old have issues that the PO neglected, or its due for a change on it.

insofar as rx8's go, If you care for a rotary properly the upkeep costs aren't that much more than a normal car but youll have shitty MPG.

I'm aware that most owners will neglected such things, but I was still wondering.

I probably wouldn't get an RX8 anyways, as nice as they seem. Thanks though.

Look up "curbstoning"

Basically, what he's describing is sketchy behavior to avoid registering as a dealer.

What these people do is they buy cars, but don't transfer the title, and when you buy the car, have you sign as the buyer of the vehicle.

What this does is keeps the middleman entirely clean of the vehicle. IE, legally, he was not involved at all. If there is any problem, legally, with the vehicle, you have no recourse.

I'd avoid it. If possible, force him to get it titled in his name, and buy it from him only once His name is on the title you're signing to buy it.
>>
>>16884026
Depending on your level of knowledge, this may be a good starting point: https://animagraffs.com/how-a-car-engine-works/

You could also consider buying/downloading the factory service manual for your car. You might have some luck looking for it online, but you can also usually buy them from RockAuto. Mine was about $20 and has been a huge help in figuring some shit out. You could also just browse forums specific to your car in your downtime, and you'll usually pick up a lot more application-specific knowledge that way. My advice would be to take everything you read with a grain of salt, though. Google is your friend.
>>
>>16883742
Honestly, just hit up your nearest local parts store. A combination wrench is pretty hard to fuck up. I've purchased loads of single wrenches and haven't had an issue yet, but I'm also not using them to apply 200 ft-lbs of torque, so your mileage may vary.
