Love the Niva, we used to have many in the UK but they have almost disappeared. I've had a 1997 one for over 11 months now with the 1.7i SPI engine which is easy to work on. The electric system is simple, most problems being fixed with bashing the fuse-box or shouting at it in Russian to scare it into working. The transmission rustles my jimmies slightly as it whines and whirs like a fucking helicopter. Paint quality is sporadic but if your frisky with a welder and have a shit tonne of rust-converter, seam sealer and under seal the underside can weather out quite nicely. The clutch is powered by some soviet gnopnik magic as as much fettling you give it its still fucking useless. The interior is as inspiring as a KGB cell block, but enjoys taking a beating and is wipe clean for any mud and shit. People laugh at it, I tell them to Google it and they are quite impressed. I could see it being very popular with farmers if it was re-introduced in RHD but the EU emissions Jew and the UK environment commies would let it back. Parts are cheap with I think is to do with the manufacturing quality and the fact that wages in Ukraine and Rus are rather low compared to Western Europe. Anyway the Lada is like a well meaning simpleton, you can't exactly be angry at its simple goat-farming ways.
