I work at a BP gas station and I get a 10cent/litre discount.

Dunno, we don't have BP around here but I've read yesterdays thread about premium fuel and found out several things:

>If you want to take extra care of the engine then go for the prescribed RON number and choose a gas that has no ethanol in it but instead has synthetic additives. But beware that your fuel consumption might go up and the engine power might even go slightly down.

Do whatever the manual says. In most cases, using lower octane fuel just means the timing gets retarded and you get a few less HP. For example
>2015 Ford Fusion 2.0L Turbo I4
>minimum: 87 octane
>recommended: 91+ octane
>only loss is about 12 horsepower

At regular stations I'll fill up with 87 octane, when I got to costco I'll pony up the extra 35-40 cents a gallon for premium (although costco is just over the state line, lower gas taxes, so premium at costco costs the same as regular at other stations near home).

It's more important to use top tier gas (all grades have to have way more detergent than EPA minimum, among other quality controls) , and if you're using something with a smaller engine or that gets used less often (e.g. a generator) to look for ethanol free gas. It's very hard around me, but when I go to upstate new york and there's a lot of snowmobilers, many gas stations will sell the 93 octane ethanol free. Check pure-gas.org for details on stations near you.
