Check charging system light will come on, then go away after a few minutes and not come on again for a long time. Then it happens again and keeps coming and going.

How fucked am I? Or is it just a bad sensor triggering it?

>thermostat housing is cracked
>replace it
>car still overheats when at idle but not while driving
>sitting at light
>car overheats and dumps all the coolant because of pressure

I'm just going to get a new pump/radiator, do a flush before hand and check the fan relay.

I've taken the car out for a good while and drove on the highway with no issues, only when I'm idle will it overheat, and there is no signs of a gasket blown so that's good.

It's a newer Hyundai though so it's all really negligible. There's a recall on the roof, but not for my model year bause they claimed they "fixed" it.

I rattle-canned my hood all nice and shiny. Then put wannabe circuit-racer stickers on it before the clear fully cured.

>mfw the clear cured and the stickers embedded themselves into the clear layer
>wanted to remove the stickers later welp

>>
It's leaking coolant somewhere. I don't know where because there's no exhaust smoke, the oil hasn't turned to dairy, no misfires, and no visible leaks or drips whatsoever even after multiple days with cardboard underneath. So now I just refill it whenever. Fuck it.

Also the outside temperature sensor is fucked and always reads at least 100 degrees F outside even when it's below zero so the automatic temperature control never works.

If car only overheats at idle is usually due to a bad radiator fan, fan relay, or fan temp sensor. The fans must come on when there is no airflow to keep the car cool, and if they arent for some reason, it's one of those things.

I am however working on a 1969 mustang where i've pretty much replaced the braking system... rebuilt the drums, new shoes, new rotors/hubs rebuilt the calipers, new pads, new brake lines, new brake hoses, new distributor block, new master cylinder, new power brake booster...

all needed to be replaced because they had all gotten clogged up by brake fluid that hadn't been changed in 20 years, baka

All thats left now is to do a proper bleed and do some testing on a straight back road.

It's got almost 250k miles and I don't really care. Paid $2000 for it over 2 years ago and besides the throwout bearing and possibly the rear end thing none of the issues are fatal. I'll just drive it 'till it dies then either sell it for cheap as-is on CL or scrap it. Wierd knock when cold, thinking its the rod bearings.

I need to completely replace every single suspension component, including every piece of rubber bushing/body mount.

The main bearings are likely 100% fucked and need to be replaced. 2psi of oil pressure at hot idle.

The passenger side valve cover gasket is leaking, the injectors are 30 years old and have probably never been cleaned, the brake rotors are completely fucked, and the steering bits from knuckle to pitman arm are shot. That, and rust. Oh, and my front diff exploded because my transfer case locked itself in 4WD for some reason. Yay.

I use the car's own ventilation system to get more air in. And since that air goes through the filter, it is also cleaner and doesn't deposit dust all over the interior. It's also a lot quieter than opening the window and letting in all the road noise.

Replaced pollen filter to remove a smell coming through air con

sanded and painted steel wheels and replaced wheel trims

Painted a layer of undercoat

Replaced stock head unit since power button was broken

Fixed up rust on door as best I could, came back through from driving in winter with salted roads

Fixed a glovebox rattle with foam tape

Replaced a jubilee clip that rusted out and snapped causing a fuel leak
And what i didn't do myself: a service at a garage, puncture repair and worn spare tyre replaced.

Lined the block with ACL bearings - mains, rods and thrust.
Cleaned and chased all the external threads and anti seize where necessary.
Advanced timing by 10 degrees.
New oil pump/filter/completely cleaned sump.

TL;DR Anything I could refresh while it was out like the whole clutch system, machined flywheel, new clutch/throwout/etc

oil leak due to old gaskets
engine is loud, needs rebuilding
pistons are worn out and need replacing
rust everywhere, needs to be repaired and repainted
bonnet is half rust half car filler
roof needs replacing (cabrio)

I'll just rebuild the engine after I get it refurbished. Then I'll exchange the pistons and cylinders to add cc, completely derust/degrease engine compartment and parts, repaint them.
Considering the rust part I'm no body part expert so I'll probably get it painted and buy a new bonnet

As everyone else has said, your problem is most likely with the fan. Check if it turns on, if not, check if it gets power, if not, check the relay, if it works (might just want to replace it blindly if you don't feel like rigging up some wires, it's likely pretty cheap) check the temp switch that triggers it.

Radio randomly turns on at max volume
ABS randomly makes the brakes not work for a couple seconds at a time, just a loud grinding sound and brake pedal to the floor (have to use floor mounted parking brake, which sometimes doesn't disengage with the lever, have to get under dash and pull a pin while kneeling in the car from outside)
Steering very loose, wheels randomly and violently change directions going over bumps (this angers the wasps)

Somethings up with the power steering and/or belt. When I'm parking and turning the wheel all the way, the wheel will get tense, then release the tension with a loud squeal coming from the belt.

Is the belt too loose, too tight, or the power steering pump bad?

smack dab in the middle of NYC. it wasnt so bad in the sense that it was a blizzard to end all blizzards or anything, but it was bad because it was sleet mixed with snow, which made for frozen snow that was almost impossible to shovel. you had to chop the snow first and then shovel it, and each shovelful weighed like a ton of bricks.

I wouldve gladly taken 2 feet of normal snow over the frozen 5 or so inches of frozen snow we got

nothing ever because it's a corolla. though there is a fucking ANNOYING buzzing sound coming from around my glovebox whenever i get around 2.8k-3k or so and i can never seem to find out exactly what is buzzing. it's like a loose plastic piece or something somewhere because if i lean over push up under the glovebox while driving it stops. its very faint, passengers never notice and give me weird looks when i start to accelerate and start screaming "AARGH THERE'S THAT FUCKIN BUZZING AGAIN!" it makes me not want to accelerate quickly because i know the harder i go the louder the buzz will get till the car changes gears.

taped where 2 pieces meet right upfront under the box before and that didn't help but this morning in my rage i managed to find a plastic piece waaay far back under there that had lots of play and i could tap it with my finger and make it click, taped it immediately, no more play in the piece. hopefully that did the trick, guess I'll find out later today. fingers seriously fucking crossed.

I bought the car with fucked up gearbox and i was aware of it (noise while engine braking was really annoying and rather loud, but i've learnt to ignore it after a while). I never thought it will die so soon. But hey, at least my proper radio got shipped. my car don't move anymore, but at least it plays music properly now. Also, i'll finally get to experience my car without fucked up gearbox, probably for cheap since it's cheap piece of shit overall, so it's nice.

>steering is loose as fug
I had the same issue on my 1988 F-150; the fix for mine was a spring clip between the two halves of the steering shaft under the hood. You can pull just the spring from a junkyard truck, and it takes about 10 minutes to change.

Here's a picture of the shaft with the broken clip; unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the replacement one.
>>
>95 Civic
Leaks power steering fluid from steering rack; waiting on part so I can rebuild it.
Cruise control doesn't work even after replacing THREE broken parts. No idea what's wrong, probably the wiring or cruise control unit.
Fuel gauge shows empty at around 1/4 tank. Bad resistors, replacements on order.
Strange "whirring" noise in first gear/reverse when accelerating. Either the gear within the transmission or the differential. Might also be the steering gearbox.
Slow coolant loss. Hopefully it's just the cap. I'll need to do a pressure test to confirm it.

Some other stuff wrong, but they're all minor, and I don't really care about them. It used to be in rough shape, but I put a lot of work into fixing it up. Feels good to have it be in as good shape as it is.
