Trucking really is the leading cause of serial killing.

>>16832606
>>Will automation really take over the industry or loading and unloading more likely to be automated by machines...
Loading and unloading of pallets, likely able to be automated. It's all one guy in a forklift anyway, so it's just a question of the automation hardware cost in relation to the cost of employing the driver.
Flatbed stuff tends to be unusual, but can often be done by one guy in a machine. Again, automation cost versus paying one skilled labourer.
Tankers are already automated. What more do you want, hoses that hook themselves up like anime tentacles?
Highway driving is already automated. Truckers don't even think about it. Why not just have a computer keep the lane/speed on the highway while the trucker keeps an eye out between fap sessions?
'Self driving' is a long way off, and throwing radiation around to detect stuff is possibly dangerous. I think it'll be 'man in the loop' for a few decades, just because you need human judgement sometimes.

It's a cummins. It has 225k miles on it. Just replace the dpf doser every 200k and ur good. I had a problem recently down in Florida. Possibly. She has a nice ass. Hard not to stare at it when her back is to me as she's makin my coffee.

It's still like I don't want to move super fast with it but chilled with her almost every day. Yesterday was the first day I didn't see her at all. Sat she was working all night so I was hanging out with her there for like 4hrs and then Sunday I chilled with her and we were at that horse ranch and then got some smoothies. She was over at that ranch all day yesterday and wanted me to come over but I didn't go. Then today I stopped by to see her at work for muh coffee and then just been textin bullshit with her and she wants to hang out tomorrow. At least tomorrow she will be in my area by the beach so closer to bringin her home. Already extended the invitation that she welcome here whenever just to chill n watch TV and stuff but don't want to sound like I'm only in this to get in her pants but also don't want to become "just like her brother!"

I'm so confused and then I come to 4chan for advice. What could go wrong?

Speaking from an early lifetime spent not striking when the iron was hot and regretting it, what do you have to lose? If she isn't into it, she isn't in to it, but at least you'll know that you tried.

Still touching the deck, but turning the boards + using the rubber pads should keep the dunnage from sliding out.

I prefer to loop them around one pocket, just cause it's easier, but it's still much better there.

Also I wanna know what the shipper said when you came back just for the lulz

They were cool about it. But then they saw my load and they were like bro ur good. And I was like nah, I was on 4chan last night and a bunch of strangers said no. So I made them get the coils off the ground and I actually did put rubbers down. As you can see I moved the bevel to the outside, and with the rubber I'm like 2mm off the ground.

The weird part was when I spent the next 2 hours making it all perfect, adding the extra chain, and taping it, and all that. Ppl stoped talking to me and just stared like ok hold on that kid is weird after all actually.

I'm glad I did though because my chains are rated for 4.7k and I only had 2. They said they were rated for like 11k. When I realized no one knew what they were talking about I continued in autistic determination on my own plans alone.

Industry standard is to carry 6-8 8 footers and 0-4 4 footers

Nothing wrong with what y'all carry, in a way it's more versatile and you wouldn't've avoided any problems by carrying anything else.

For fun, I carry 6 8-footers, 4 4-footers, and 2 6-foot 6x6es for the keks

It is more to do with making sure you are paying attention just incase an automated system fails and overfills the tanker, thus spilling volatile product.

Yes, the fully automated loading system is a shit and fails spectacularly, very regularly. But if you are paying attention, its easy override it and stop the loading process. Hazmat/Dangerous goods will never be fully automated. Far too unsafe.

Is it a lot different from pulling a large trailer with a pickup or medium duty truck?
>>
>>16836497
Same principles apply for backing and stuff. But normally when you are pulling a trailer with a pickup or SUV, the trailer is smaller and lighter than the tow vehicle unless you are one of those fegs with an F-350 that has DOT numbers on the side of it.
>>
>>16836614
They're called hotshots.

>>16836497
Ball hitched trailers are just as tricky but in different ways. The smaller the trailer wheel base is, the more responsive it is. Backing little trailers is hard because they're fidgety, or the smallest movements can send them off in unwanted directions. Obviously, It's still a lot easier to maneuver a 40' combination than an 80' one
>>
>>16836497
It is harder to reverse a standard care and trailer than it is a truck and trailer.
The longer the draw bar (trailer tyres to hitch) the easier it is to reverse.
>>
>>16836658
>tfw tryin to bump a dock with a pup trailer after driving 48' trailers all day
I remember my jet ski trailer being a little bit of a pain to back as well. Two jet skis, so it was wider than the Explorer I towed it with but still short. Trying to back in a straight line for some distance was tricky because it was difficult to tell when it was straight. At least with a semi truck, the trailer is normally the same width as the tractor and it makes it easier to tell when you are straight.

>How are the long haul drives where its you and the lonely highway?
Relaxing. Don't do long haul often, though, so it's mostly either having 18 hours to drive 7 hours, or rarely pushing against an unrealistic deadline.
>Will automation really take over the industry or loading and unloading more likely to be automated by machines...
Humans are going to continue to be cheaper until sexbots are self-cleaning. Then the massive labor shortage will make automation more feasible.

>>16832959
Automated forklifts can already stage loads running on painted lines, fucking up any time there's a coffee cup in their way. Only multi-billion dollar companies use it. Still need a human to load the trailers since there are no lines for the robots to follow in there.

Still don't know why you're going full retard with your chains pulling the stake pockets on the sides like that. Just use the chain spools. That's what they're made for.

>>16834365
8 8' timbers is the industry standard. Enough for a full load of tube or angle iron. I might pull the chain rack out of my bulkhead to make room to chop up my old 8's into 4's and get a new set of oak 8's.

>>16834473
Stake pockets are usually only rated for a chain wrapped around it and hooked back to the chain. That puts the pull on the bottom of both sides of the pocket instead of stressing the weld on one side being pulled up and in.

Why do I see some trucks where there's like 10' of space between the fifth wheel and cab? Is there any benefit to having that much space, like doing really tight jack knife maneuvers or something? And no, I don't mean stretched frame show trucks. Like this guy, there's almost two panels of space, so that's like 7'

>>
>>16839837
There's that too but the wheel is set especially far back to begin with.
I feel like the fifth wheel should only be set far enough back that you can have full tanks and <12000 on the steers. That was how I set mine. I got a really heavy trailer, filled up, and set it so I could go 11600/33000/33000, that way I never have to move it again or worry about my steers, I can just move the tandems depending on how the freight is loaded.

After putting the elastic part through the eyelet part at the back, I connected them to the Velcro on the side of the seat and let them tuck themselves under the outside side of the seat frame from the tension.

They have an install video:
https://youtu.be/9K-on7GElI4

The first set I ever installed on the truck I had while hauling sand took me an hour of struggling with those fucking straps until I realized I was doing it wrong.

>when it hits you that swift wasn't such a bad decision after all

51 cents per mile on a dedicated route that goes from Jurupa Valley terminal up 400 miles and then back down 400 miles to Jurupa where I can take the night off at my place. I'll be able to run up my 70 hours where I'll be able to take my 34 at my house also.

Feels good for only being in trucking for 6 months before landing this

Piggybacking off this guy, but since I've gone to lower 48, over time I feel like I've died. I used to have hobbies, and I read, I was learning a second language, but now all I do is drive, eat, and sleep. I kept thinking "Oh, yknow, my body will get used to it and I'll be back to normal after a few months" but now I've completely lost what little ambition I had left.
>>
How much time to you realistically have to yourself, not working, when you're OTR? Assuming adequate sleep.
>>

>Assuming adequate sleep.
that's assuming alot right there
>>
>>16840295
On a good day, maybe 6 hours. Broken down: 10.5 hours driving, a 30 minute break, 7 hours sleeping.
Some days you'll have more time wasted trying to deal with shippers and receivers, but you know you can only ever work a maximum of 14 hours any day.
Then you'll get days like, for me, I've got a thousand mile lime to run, but I'm running on recaps, so I had 7 hours today, 4 tomorrow, and then 10 Friday, so I spent most of today and tomorrow watching anime and jacking off and listening to stern, sometimes consecutively.

In the 70s, it wasn't unheard of to start your week at a terminal and be handed a bundle of paperwork that had the info for your entire week's worth of loads, along with a bottle of coke or meth because getting it all done did not allow for time sleeping.

Nowadays most trucks don't see terminals except for maintenance, enforcement is gradually squeezing out the illegal carriers, and taking any kind of non-prescription drug as a company driver is hilariously ill advised.

Basically the methed up midnight runners with 3 log books are restricted to the tollways on the east coast/chicago now, where they can pay the toll cash.

Even those are starting to log license plates at cash booths.

Microcarriers and owner ops can only dodge DOT scales for so long. My O/O friend who's been trucking for 30 years and likes to take 5 hour naps instead of 10 hour breaks is having serious trouble adjusting, and the microcarrier he pulls for is flirting with shutdown level CSA scores.

The straps were to satisfy a DOT req "to have one additional tie down beyond what is necessary." I was technically covered with two chains. (4.7k + 4.7k = 9.4k.) The real problem was my coil racks were too long. And yes an anon persuaded me to go back. And yes while I was there I swapped the strap for a third chain since its more effective I guess. Sorry for trying to improve every day.

Doubt it. There's several trucks out there with them on the north-south freeways. They're see-through, and only used in daytime so even if you did get a ticket for it, you'd almost certainly win in court. The built-in sunshades actually do obstruct view, and nobody has a problem with them. I've even seen guys with jackets or shirts wedged in the top of the window to completely block the sun, leaving only enough room to see the mirrors.

Lots of bulk hauling gigs pay percent per tonne, or a percentage of unit earnings.

It's not an apples to apples comparison, but I had a buddy that would haul contaminated soil from, and sawdust loads to drilling rig sites, and was payed a percentage per tonne, and did fine.

Its all going to depend on what they charge per tonne, and roughly how many tonnes you get per day.

They didn't give you rough estimates to figure out what it pays?

>tfw pissed off some manlet this morning at my first stop
What a great way to start the morning. Had to deliver to this gas station, had the fuel truck there as well as Coca Cola so I couldn't even move anywhere until at least one of them left. Some manlet dude in his 50s right from the start had a shitty attitude and wanted me to move the truck so he could get to the air pump. Had nowhere to go anyway. Once Coke finally left and I could actually move, dude is still following me around annoying the shit out of me so I take like 10min more to finish my stuff. Then I finally go to the truck and he says he knows my boss and has my truck number and he's gonna get me fired and this and that and I'm just smiling at him.

Best part I think was I had another driver with me and manlet was trying to get him to move the truck and he's like "nah I'm just a helper I can't do any of that". So satisfying making angry people even more angry when they realize that they don't have shit for control over you. I'm guessing dude is some middle managemant cunt who basks in the glory of yelling at people like me all day who are 20yrs younger than him and it breaks his heart to realize the world doesn't work like that when he is off the clock. Hopefully his boss was pissed that he was late today.

She is working tonight and I might go stop by and explain it all to her IRL. Was supposed to chill last night but other shit came up so it didn't work out. So I stopped by for coffee earlier in the day yesterday and she had left the store for a few min to go buy something they needed and then she called me right after sounding so sad that she didn't get to see me. I have no fucking clue what is going on.

People are just cunts. Sometimes I have to park in shitty spots and block parked cars or at least make it a tight fit for them to back out (especially for women and old people who can't drive) and I will always move if people have to leave, but from time to time somebody comes out acting like a complete asshole and I take my sweet time moving the truck for them. I don't understand why these people have such a shitty attitude. They come out of a store and act like I blocked them in on purpose just because I was bored.

But yeah, it took me like 2 or 3 months to actually start at Pepsi I think. Maybe even longer. I applied in like December for the first time, they didn't hire me, then got an email from Pepsi saying to submit the application again because there was an opening (February maybe?) and then I went in for an interview like early or mid March and finally went for orientation like a week into April.

Its because during the day once the temperature come up, all the ice and snow covered gravel roads get soft and shitty to drive on. With so much heavy truck traffic between logging and oilfield trucks, the road owners/counties put heavy truck road bans on, usually from noon to midnight or ten am to ten pm to cut down on the wear and tear.

You lads ever reserve parking before you get to a truck stop? I know it's considered haraam but occasionally I do like when I know I'll be getting home late for hometime and need to park at that particular TS because my car is there. Or days like today where I didn't need to go on duty until 1200 and would rather pay $14 than have to shut down after being on duty 6 hours, the extra miles I can drive knowing I have a guaranteed spot make up for the price imho.

Sunday night. If I'm bored Saturday, I might go chill over by her work and harass her. And I'm gonna stop for coffee this afternoon after my last stop. I see her like 5 or 6 days a week. Last night I was over there and was a retard and chilled with her til close to midnight so I'm running on about 2hrs of sleep.

And even like Monday, she had the day off and was working at that ranch all day and was trying to get me to come over there and I was like "Nah, I'm just gonna chill today, I don't want to be a creeper like that seeing you daily" and then last night she brought that up and was somewhat offended that I would even think that.

Shit's interesting and I probably won't get friendzoned but it just happened too many times in the past where I'm all weary of it. But then I get the random texts like "what are you eating for dinner" or showin her something on the phone and she leans in real good so that's probably an upside. I'll just feel better about it after I finally bring her home or go to her place but she is probably one or two bad dates with creeps away from becoming a lesbian so I'm not trying to push anything.
>>
>>16850022

The turnover rate for drivers is like 95%, so big carriers like Swift are constantly hiring anyone and everyone.

>>16850833
The first company I worked for had 3 orientations per week of 30 new drivers at 8 terminals. That's over 30,000 accepted applicants to keep 7,300 trucks moving. By the time I'd finished orientation 6 people had quit or been dismissed, by the end of training 15 more had quit or been terminated, and by the end of the first year only 2 of us were still with the company. Big companies run on rookies like gas through a 2-stroke.

Don't listen to him, he uses fake math to calculate hourly wage. I drove for 6 hours today and spent 7 hours in line/unloading at a receiver watching anime, and I'll get paid about $260 for six hours of holding a steering wheel + layover.
A normal person would say "wow, that's over $40/hr for sitting on your ass on a few hours, that's a sweet gig" but this stupid nigger considers OTR drivers to be "at work" for 24 hours a day. Sleeping? Nah, at work. Eating lunch? Nah, working. Sitting in the sleeper jacking off? That's work.

If you're like me and you've got no friends or family, no marketable skills, educating, ambition, hopes, or dreams, it's the easiest way to make above average money. I'm on what would be considered the low end of the pay scale, and I still regularly average >$800/wk after deductions. If I can another year without hitting anything, I'm looking at a company where I can make double that.
If you do have a family or since gay shit like that, you can get home every night/every other night jobs, but you'll probably have to work a lot harder. I used to do driver unloaded freight, and I made more and was home twice a week, but it was exhausting work, and it's really dangerous since you'll be doing way more city driving.
The hardest part is starting out. I remember thinking to myself in school that I could never learn how to back a trailer. I've never felt so stressed as I did when I was trying to back up at a truck stop or bump a dock, and you feel like everyone is watching and judging you, but in reality no one gives a shit, and everyone will tell you it's just a part of trucking everyone has to go through. No one was born knowing how to walk, or back a truck.

Anyway, I think it's easy money, basically. There aren't many jobs I know of that pay over $30k first year to sit around all day listening to music and talk radio.

Either the IP Range Ban Issue feedback forms are being ignored now, or some mod on /o/ has set up a script to auto-ban all of the 172.56.xxx.xxx range whenever it's unbanned. Can't post any more unless I'm on wifi somewhere.

If you arent driving it, you are under it.

That one day off each week is spent greasing and looking for future issues and correcting them.
