I have a truck because I live in Maine. I have to get to work no matter what. In my job there is no such thing as calling out. I also spend lots of time in the woods camping and shooting. It makes sense for me. I have a 2017 Silverado Z71 Midnight because I make a good living and want a nice truck for long trips. Its that simple. I also have a 2001 Silverado Z71 4x4 for the more intense camping trips and dragging trees and rocks at camp.

My summer daily driver is a BMW M3 Conv. So I am not always in a truck. There are lots to like about new trucks but also lots to dislike.

Picture related. Took it last night during the Blizzard. I had to get to work and this was the right tool for the job. In my 4 mile trip to work there were 11 cars stuck on and off the roads. I drove to work like it was a normal day. I am very thankful to have these trucks.

The great thing about living in a capitalit system is I can spend my money how I see fit. Not how you think I should. You can spend your income however you wish. I have no need to try and impose my value structure on you.

I already owned the 01 outright for may years. I desided not to trade it in when it hit 215,000 miles as it would be worth almost nothing as a trade. So I kept it. And use it as I need.

The 01.

Literally what? Not even in Canada. That's top trim everything in sort of money. Most trucks are in the mid 30s sticker price, which means you can buy a decent one for high 20s low 30s or a fully kitted out half ton for 40k.

60-70k is "F250 Harley Davidson Chrome and Leather with Free Blowjobs for Life" sort of money. A trimmed-up Raptor is under 60k for fuck sakes.

Level of outright lies on this board is astounding..
>>
>>16839246
Yes it is. A lot of the roads that go to the primo trails and camping spots are rutted up mud holes. A normal trailer would get its tanks and piping ripped off.

Of course somebody living in a shit hole like Florida or the UK can't comprehend such a thing because they never leave the city.
>>
>>16839257
I know a few guys in construction that have these home-sized trailers. They take them south every winter when the work dries up for a couple months. Makes sense for some people.. But that height... Combined with the truck, how does he not fall over in corners or in the wind on the highway?

30k gets you a base model 2wd. Trucks are cheap but not 20k cheap and fuck buying a used truck. A decent model is around 50k, 70k for a diesel luxury teeruk.

They call it a double cab. It's the smaller of the 2 extended cabs. I wanted the 6.6' bed rathe then the crew cab with the 5.5' bed. Hauling snowmobiles it really makes a difference. I don't often have people in the back. Mostly guns and gear. But I did have three adults back there on a shooting trip and they said they were fine for space.

>>
>>16839300
I can tell you have just done this 2 months ago that they are more then you think. A none work truck 4x4 will start in the high 30's and that will still be basic. To get anything comfortable you will be over 40 and in my case over 50. And that's for a nice LT. If you go for an LTZ without the 6.2L you are in the mid 50's to low 60's. You don't what to know what a Duramax will run you.
>>
>>16839472
Haha maybe. I have always been a sucker for a blacked out truck. Sad really because it's about the worst color you can get to live with.
>>
>>16839314
I live in Ontario, lived in the rural bits until recently. I know mud. But the campsites around here are either well groomed and accessible, or they're on old logging roads (generally build with gravel and sand so not much mud), or they're so deep in the sticks that the roads would never accommodate something so large.

MSRP on the base base model is 27. Raptor is 50k.

And nobody pays MSRP.

The little things add up, and I get that out the door they might be more if you're either picky or don't wanna wait for your configuration to be on a lot. But the "average truck" is NOT between 60 and 70k, which was my point. That's a far above average truck.
>>
>>16836721
Greg?
>>
>>16839615
True it's not 60 to 70. That is the high end. But the average truck most people buy is 40 to 50. That 27k base is a super stripped 2wd W/T. Unless you are buying for a fleet you won't get that. My dad bought a 2015 silverado with rubber floors. It has 4x4, manual HVAC and XM. It was 36k. And he paid cash. It's a very basic truck. Yes there are good deals on them. I got 11k off mine after beating up the dealer. But there are no cheap new trucks. And used seem to hold there value well. Mine is still worth more then I financed.
>>
>>16839674
But when every truck is bought at pretty good discount, it's hard to say that the sticker price is the true price. Kind of like how nothing is as expensive as Canadian Tire claims it was "before the sale".

They do hold their value way too much though. I blame the Americans for that in the last 10 years.

I got a truck because I was tires of getting stuck in the snow, needed something to tow trailers with sleds, quads, and now my bike when needed, and the bed was nice for throwing shit in. All other options would only perform half of the tasks. Though I don't need it nearly as much so when my lease is done I'm going for the cheapest awd/4wd vehicle I can find.
>>
>>16839450
Oh okay, double cab. I'll be sure to remember that from now on. Yeah i much rather prefer that over the other two cabs configurations just to have space to store extra shit in the back seat.

One last question though, did you install a leveling kit on your truck or no?
>>
>>16839300
That's bullshit and you know it. The cheapest base model trucks are 35k which no one buys as they don't even have 4x4.

I think a big part of it comes down to envy. It's the same reason people hate Porsche, BMW, Audi and so on. If I can't have it your an ass if you do.

I never saw things that way. I have always wanted a Ferrari. I don't hate someone who has one. Instead I hope one day to be in a position to own one myself. Will that happen. I don't think so. But its something to work for. Same with big trucks. Not everyone is in a place in their lives where it makes sense. If that is what you want then find a way to make it happen for you.

I just said they need their trucks to haul thier fat families around because they sure aren't using them for hauling anything work related around. Most people who get trucks are because "they're big and manly". Then there's farmers.

You are generalizing. If you saw me on my way to work today you would saw whats he need that thing for? I was unloaded and not towing anything. If you see me this Friday you will see my truck pulling a 4 up enclosed snowmobile trailer with another sled in the bed. thats around 4000 lbs total of load.

So how can you tell what they use their trucks for. Not saying there are not Monster Trucks that have never been off the paved road. But it's their money they can buy what they want. Why should you care one way or the other.

That's a nice truck. Never knew they offered 6.2L V8s for later version Platinums, thought that was for Raptors only.
>>
>>16841895
6.2 is also offered in f250 poor version.

I opt out for 2.7 ecoboost on my 16 f150.
With 3.7 gear thing is not that slow

gotcha, yeah I suppose I spend just as much time hauling around passengers or other random shit but honestly I mostly hunted for the longer truck because I think it looks way better than the crew cab 5.5' bed

>>16841370
yes, just got it back last Saturday and I slowly continue to find lots of little shit that the body shop missed
>>
>>16841895
>>16841918
In 13/14 you could get a 6.2L in everything but an XL, FX2, King Ranch and Limited. I really wanted a 6.2L Platinum to supercharge but also wanted a lighter interior because I'm claustrophobic as shit so that was one of the big things that pushed me toward my KR. The 6.2L is badass.
>>
>>16841965
Fair point. The 5.5 bed does look a bit strange to me. I grew up with 8 foot beds and think of the 6.6 as a short bed. GM now calls it standard. How times change.

Man that sucks so bad about your truck. Glad you got it fixed and hope they can get all the bugs worked out.
>>
>>16841895
Yeah I love my baby, except for when I'm getting fuel. 11.8 MPG HIGHWAY with a 2" level and slightly larger than OEM tires.

There's some weird quirks with F150s that have the 6.2 too. For example, any 6.2 truck doesn't come with electric power steering. They all have the older hydraulic setup. The 5.0 and Ecoboosts come standard with electric power steering. Quite strange.
>>
>>16842093
Also the 6.2 F150s STILL make more stock HP than the Ecoboosts/5.0 do. It may also be the last cast iron half ton truck motor, I think everyone else has gone to Aluminum. No idea why they stopped putting the 6.2 in the F150 lineup.
>>
>>16841416
Because I am jealous and I hate people if they have something better than me.
>>
>>16842006
Yeah nowadays the 5.5 is short and 6.5 is standard, but I cringe whenever I see another F150 owner call their 6.5 a longbed. And thanks, I'm sure the body shop is pretty sick of me by now but I'm going to keep on them until my truck is back to the way it was. they ordered two incorrect parts that were both over $1000 each and they're trying to hold it over my head like it's my fault even though I offered to send them receipts and part numbers for every single part on my truck.

>>16842093
yeah no EPAS and it's the only engine Ford makes these days that isn't DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. but man they're fun to drive. I can't complain about my 3.5L though, I get around 20 on 35x12.50s and can still pull away from stock 6.2L GMC Denalis easily. but it sure does sound goofy.

I don't know if you get snow where you live but if you do a 2wd truck with no weight in the back will get stuck in a parking lot. But if you put a few hundred pounds in the bed it really helps.

Just baby that gear box as they are known to fail. Other then that you will be fine.

From that photo, I still don't see terrain that would warrant a lift kit on the trailer.

I'm not saying places requiring a lift kit don't exist, I just don't see how a 30ft trailer becomes any more usable on those trails just because it's 6" higher. It's the length that would fuck you up, not the clearance.

I'm really enjoying my powerstroke. I'm a big hunter and outdoor guy so a truck was in my future eventually. Got tired of taking my car down dirt and gravel road to get to the shooting spots, and every winter i get fucked because rear wheel drive plus living ontop of a hill is a shit show.

Found a local guy selling his truck as the original owner and Mechanic with a book filled with every receipt for it. From head light bulbs to new suspension and airlockers. Itemized by date and kept for reference. Market here is stupid inflated for these but i managed to bring him down quite a bit since were both military.

Now if i want to go fuck around in the woods i can, and if my neighbor skids off the road in her shitbox kia i can pull her out of the ditch. Bmw for every day, motorcycle for nice weather, and the truck for all the outdoors stuff and the drive in movie theatre.

It's actually not

The most attractive vehicle for a man to drive is a toyota camry.

If men were women and cars were tits, a black ford truck would be massive implants and a camry would be naturally perky Cs.
>>
>>16848641

Maybe if your idea of fun is hitting up the strip mall for some retail therapy at 10 am on Sundays after stopping by your local free range gluten free coffee stand for your mocha chocha bullshit.

A grown man driving a camry screams one of two things.

A: I know nothing about cars and the salesman said they had a screaming deal on this 2017 camry and he was practically giving it away.

B: Your wife said you could have a Toyota, but it has to fit 4 people, get good gas mileage and it has to match the rest of the womens cars in her book club. And your too much of a cuck to tell her to fuck off.
>>
>>16848641

Your titty comparison is so far from the truth. The camry would be that girl who's maybe a B cup. Yea it's still a pair of tits, but you can only really look at them. A truck on the other hand is the solid pair of D's, they're big, gorgeous, bounce all over the place when you get em going and still look great when they're 30 years old.
>>
>>16848792
>still look great when they're 30 years old

I agree. A woman would look at that as a nice, practical choice. The kind of girls that would be attracted to a lifted up truck with obscene mudders probably dip more than the guy driving it, and that's not the kind of girl you want

>The most attractive vehicle for a man to drive is a toyota camry.

I mean, you can keep telling yourself that as much as you want to, but you are wrong.

The Camry is that kind of car that screams "I don't give a shit about cars but I need one of those for transportation and muh impressive mpg" just like all the other mundane sedans or small crossovers. Basically, the average person, man or woman, would just look at this and picture it as that basic car that everyone drives as a daily commuter.

A man who drives a truck are considered to be attractive amongst others class vehicles, in this country apparently. To me, it's just dudes trying to look tough, intimidating, trying to be someone they're not. Quite basically an highly egotistical bastard. I'm talking about the ones who don't use their pickup trucks for it's main purpose, and that is to tow, haul shit or whatever practical uses it can serve.

I still to this day have yet to see a courteous pickup driver who isn't a blue collar laborer.
>>
>>16848924
There's actually science behind this saying that poor and insecure women want guys who project rough and tumble masculinity and women who aren't impoverished or otherwise feeling oppressed want regular men who project adulthood.

If you live in bumfuck USA it would be easy to think that women just like pickups, but if you live anywhere else they look at you like you look at hookers with implants

Busses don't. Low deck dry van trailers don't. Audi's don't drag the nose.

My point continues to be that anywhere "rough enough" to require that lift to get over obstacles is going to be way too rough for a trailer that long to make it, even if it was 40ft off the ground.

It looks more like they lifted it because they couldn't rig up something to lower the gooseneck in their brodozer, so to keep it level "fuck it Skeeter we'll throw blocks under the trailer!".

My best recommendation is an older Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra (1998-2004). Pretty reliable trucks from my experience, gas is kinda abysmal but hopefully that's not a big concern if you're thinking about buying a truck.
