Check your rear brakes, if you see any:
-Hot spots
-Cracks
-Shit thats literally been melted
change your rear breaks.
As for your transmission, if you have the money, take it to a shop to have them inspect it. If its damaged, get it fixed or get a new one (Not refurbished). If its fine, just pay them the probably $1000 labor charge for making sure you didn't fuck shit up

Brakes work great, no sign of damage done. What could these transmission problems be? Googled it and some sites said that if the car still works like it should then I shouldnt worry about it.

What are some cheap ways I can improve my cars performance/horsepower? Preferably easy enough that an idiot could do it.

In July, I bought my second car, a 2008 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Petrol, (Would have gotten a nicer car, but on a wage of £7.32/hour it wasn't happening), and had only 30,000 miles on it after 8 years owned by one old dude. Basically, I want to improve my car, but I don't have cash to splash.

Anyone care to give advice?

Also, it was owned by a Mexican which can sprayed the scratches/bumps on the rear and front bumpers. It's being sold by his son's friend, probably because he doesn't speak english... but he was the first owner with lots of records.
