why do you want a 600 if you've been riding this long?
>>
>>16811696
Because he can't ride for shit
>>
>>16811677
why go to a dealer i thought everyone does private party to get their bikes? isn't that the cardinal rule of /o/?
>>
>>16811696
Because it's still way faster than everything else he has had. Who really cares? It's just what he wants
>>
>>16811705
I'll probably buying my next bike at a dealer.
Comes with a full check up, replacing of the windscreen when damaged and warranty.
Just some ease of mind I am willing to pay for.
>>
>>16811705
nah, just the poorfags. some of us can actually afford nice/new bikes
>>
>>16811696
Mainly insurance. I'm still 21 with the not best driving record, so a 600 will be cheaper to insure than a Peter bike. And the fz6 still has a hundred horsepower, pretty much near double anything I've ever owned.

>>16811703
Tru

>>16811705
While this is true, this is a very reputable dealer and they're offering a pretty good deal. Like 2,900 for an 05 with 6500 miles. Also new Michelin tires as well.
>>
>>16811705
A lot of people aren't mechanically inclined enough to wrench/understand their own bikes so they feel more comfortable buying through a dealer who tells them buzzwords like "checked for safety" or "inspected" or "tuned up".

Literally none of this is true. If dealers actually gave a shit about optimizing their pre-owned bikes, then they wouldn't be sitting there with pitch black brake fluid in the reservoir.
>>
>>16811730
You have dealers and you have stealers.
>>
>>16811730
>If dealers actually gave a shit about optimizing their pre-owned bikes, then they wouldn't be sitting there with pitch black brake fluid in the reservoir.
lmao only in america
>>
>>16811730
All of the brake fluid is clear on this fz6 and the oil was changed recently, as well as a new set of tires.

Checkmate, atheist
>>
>>16811727
fair enough, when i insured my xb12r at 22 i got raped on insurance.

finally turning 25 though, so my rates should go down.
>>
>>16811755
I definitely would move an xb9r but they're hard to find. How was riding on the highway on a Buell?
>>
>>16811743
That's good I suppose. My point is that dealers provide a false sense of security for most people. It isn't difficult nor expensive to perform basic maintenance and the fact that most dealers don't do these basic things is a pretty good indication of the fact that they don't do shit. They ride it around the parking lot, make sure threads aren't showing on the tires, throw some shitty bulk petroleum oil in it, and make sure the chain isn't falling apart. The rest is "good enough" to sell as is. If I'm paying a premium at a dealership, it should be pretty damn refreshed.
>>
>>16811763
Honestly,I fully believe it's all about the reputation of the dealer. Some are scheisty, some are actually decent. That being said, this bike is actually at market value and is in great shape. It's wholly with that much, and it has had maintenance performed. I'm sure if you went to Abdul's motorcycle Allah plus, you might not get that experience.
>>
>>16811762
highway is great, but I find myself searching for a 6th gear on the interstate.

the 9s can be modded to have more power than the 12s, too, since they have a different piston and can rev higher.
>>
>>16811778
How was the riding position? And that's what I heard, as well as having a taller rear end ratio.
>>
>>16811780
not great on the R that I have - typical sportbike positioning will leave you sore after an hour.

the S, however, has a standard seating position and a better reach on the handlebars.
>>
>>16811780
forgot to mention that nobody talks about how great the handling is. the stock suspension has 6 total adjustments for fine tuning, and the short wheelbase will pull you into any corner you want.
>>
>>16811789
>>16811800
Interesting. I love the look of the r, but I need something mildly comfortable. Still, very cool stuff.

Daily reminder that REAL MOTORCYCLINGâ„¢ is exclusively low speed control.

Anyone that goes faster than 75mph on a motorcycle is not a real motorcyclist and should. No one should ride any motorcycles with more than 50hp and everyone should wear a textile oversuit, knee pads, neck condom, leg condoms, elbow pads, elbow condoms, helmet and head condom, full elbow length gloves with integrated glove condom, boots, boot condoms, chest protector, chest condom, etc. or you're not a REAL MOTORCYCLISTâ„¢ and in a crash your shitty leather and CE padding will explode compared to my impenetrable textile armor that I wear to political rallies and beat people up in.

Looks like I'm doing my motorcycle skills test in the pouring rain.

Bike I'm using has a rear drum brake so I probably just won't use it at all in the emergency stop. If the rear tire skids at all you fail but they're not too anal about the stopping distance.

Where are you doing it? In the UK we use tarmac that's almost as good in the wet as dry for skills tests. Either way, you should be applying less force to the back brake in the rain, but you still need to use it in an e-stop or it's usually also a fail.

i-is that an actual drink? I think the people that order that shit don't actually like the taste of coffee so they have to mask it with a bunch of other stuff.

Starbucks coffee is pretty shit though, my grandma keeps getting me giftcards there so I drink it but there's so much better places. McDonalds coffee is actually pretty good in Canada, I had it in the states once and it tasted like ass.

You actually get two chances at it, so my idea is to use mainly the front brake and if they say it's too long I'll use both the second time.

I've done it before but my license expired so I need to do it again, it's pretty easy as long as you're not dumb. The licensing in North America is a joke.

Most of that was already done when I got the bike, but I've ridden stock DRZs and I think removing the airbox snorkel was the biggest difference. The oversized brake rotor is also really really nice to have in comparison to the stock S rotor.
The bike also has lots of non-performance mods that all add up to make the bike much more pleasurable for me to ride. I'd probably give up my performance mods before I would give up my wide foot pegs, good bars, and comfy seat.

The r3 isn't half bad, I kinda wish I had gotten a used ninja 500 or something instead just for longer distance riding, but to be honest I've had the bike for about a year now and it hasn't disappointed.

Get the 500, better for the highway, won't have to rev it out quite as much.
Plus you can stroke your ego and say you are superior to all of the 250 riders out there

get the 500, it's slightly faster and more torquey

because you're a literal cantturn so you might as well get a tire that gets some decent mileage.
Sport touring, and even touring tires, are far grippier than you presume.

>>
>>16814734
Yeah well I ride a supersport, so....

M7 RRs are a balance between sport touring and sport riding, they're the ones I've found to be the best and the most recommended for street riding.

Not too interested in struggling with tires and trying not to damage the coating on my rims, I've done it before and make enough money to not have to worry about it anymore. It's a big pain with just tire irons and then I still have to get them balanced.

Bore jobs are easy to outsource. Many motorcycle dealers do not do their own boring and some will tell you who they use locally.

I use an automobile engine machinist who does race motors. I bring the cylinder and the factory shop manual, have him mic the bore with his dial bore guage, then I order the piston and hand him the jug, piston and factory service manual. For my Harley I bought a set of torque plates but I'll do enough cylinders over the years to pay for them.

Freight is cheap so if you live in the sticks you might find someone online to do the work, but anyone with common boring bars can bore and hone your cylinder. Boring cuts close, then cylinder is finish honed to size.
>>
>>16815049
I don't own any boring equipment or know anyone locally but there's a guy who has a good reputation in my state who is doing my XR250R, after bore and stroke I think it will end up around 315cc or so

Br/o/'s, convince me that selling the Husaberg last year was a good idea...

I rebuilt my WR450 over the winter to be much more awesome... but can't shake the feeling of missing that Husaberg even though it has crank/rod reliability issues.
>>
>>16815037
>desu I will probably look into putting the tires on myself when the time comes, because fuck handing over the cash for that

Lots of good videos on that subject. I learned to use small tire spoons for best control.

I have two of these and like them. Any common tire tool of similar design will do but the handles make life easier.

https://www.amazon.com/Terry-Cable-Ultimate-TyER-Iron/dp/B003LNQHNC

A set of rim protectors is cheap and works well.

Get a spray bottle and mix a very soapy mix of dish detergent for tire lube. No need to buy tire soap unless you have a shop, and most shops don't use it either.

You can work outdoors on your lawn with a tarp or blanket to protect your rim.

Bead breaking methods vary. Before I got a manual tire machine I used bumper jacks or whatever was handy. There's plenty of bead breaking info on da net.

Look out for these used on Craigslist etc. I paid 150 bucks for mine. They haven't changed in many years. If you need parts CHECK EBAY first. Much cheaper. Only the protective pads wear or get lost.

The new owner ruined the bike with some shitty knobby tires.

But I'm supposed to build him a 650 motor to replace the 550 and keep that as a spare.

Fucking exactly what I wanted to do... swap the motor for a 650.. it's more reliable... can get 300+ hours out of those without too much trouble.

Exactly... the triples are offset different on the FS vs the FE models.

It's a Supermoto, not a dirt bike... suspension valved different, stiffer, shorter swingarm, less offset on triples...

Man that bike was fun.

WR450 is fun too though... and I don't have to worry about making it home every time I ride it.

You can buy manual balancers, bring your complete wheel assemblies to a shop for spin balancing, or just do what I do and use good tires only balancing if they misbehave, which I've never had to do but most of my riding is under 100mph.
Many years, many motorcycles, many tires. Your mileage, as they say, may vary. I run nothing but Dunlops and Avons on my personal rides.

If in my bros shop I balance customer tires. I don't bother with mine.

Basic balancers look like this Horror Fright unit and were the only game in town for many decades. Lots of bikers make their own. If you add a dial indicator with a mag base you can use this style to true spoked rims. Some folks even make their base and uprights out of wood. You can buy adhesive-backed motorcycle wheel weights or the crimp style used on spoked rims.
