I like the GTR and I'm seriously thinking of buying it. I make 100k/year so I can technically afford it I should probably use that money to pay off my house but you only live once so why not live a little?

That being said, why shouldn't I buy a GTR (non nismo of course) and what's a better car for the money? I live in the midwest and would be my daily driver.
>>
You can pick up a 2012 for like 60k
Not many better cats really unless you're also interested in a 911
>>
Maybe you should test drive one first...and if you were remotely serious you would already have other cars in mind at that price range.
>>
that money would be better spent on DMT coke and heroin if you wanted to live a little

just go on a test drive

I would rather have something like a BMW M or AMG for that money if were talking DD but thats me
>>
>>16796577
Even if I made 100k/year I wouldn't buy a car like that for daily driving. It just seems like a waste of potential to me.

But if you like it enough then go ahead, your life
>>
>>16796592
>Maybe you should test drive one first...and if you were remotely serious you would already have other cars in mind at that price range.
I've never really considered owning a car in that price range before is the thing. I've never paid more than 30k for a used car. I'm only considering this because I really like that car.

>I would rather have something like a BMW M or AMG for that money if were talking DD but thats me
They would have nice features for sure, but I don't drive more than 10 minutes to work each day for my DD stuff. No highway miles so no need for adaptive cruise control/etc

>>16796616
>Even if I made 100k/year I wouldn't buy a car like that for daily driving
If you're gonna spend that much on it why not DD the hell out of it? I guess maybe own a little 5k shitbox to drive when it rains? IDK, I'd rather take the nice car then just wash it later.
>>
>>16796591

A tranny rebuild is ~$30k...

A lightly used Corvette and $30k in mods would be a lot more fun.
>>
Nissanfag here. Buying the non-nismo version is kind of silly.
Your money is better spent on an older Z car and dropping the VR38DETT into it. Or just getting the Infiniti rebadged Skyline.

Yes the issue with launch control was "fixed" in 2010 when they lowered the launch RPM down so they don't overload the gear set as bad.

When they released the DBA cars(2012+) they again revised the launch control system again. This time they raised the RPM back up a little and modified how it engaged the clutches, also with the DBA models you don't need to disengage the VDC any more to enable launch control and from what I've heard with the VDC on the ecu does not log launch control events at all like it did when you had to disable the VDC.

Get the normal 2017 GTR especially if you plan to drive this thing every day. You will need the softer suspension.

>>16796797
Launch control can't void your warranty as long as VDC is set to R and not off. It has protection mechanisms to keep you from grenading the transmission now.

I don't think the R35 is bad. It's not competitive with the 911 Turbo anymore but it's still reasonably priced I think.

The people that claim they're unreliable are actually retarded. This isn't an R32 GTR that has been thrashed for decades. Maintain the car and replace consumables as needed and it'll be fine.

>100k/yr isn't that much. You shouldn't be buying a car that is A) more than half your gross pay, and B) has a payment that's more than about 15% of your take home pay.
You're not wrong.

I have cut my budget to the bone and since I have amazing credit 830+ I will get a stupid low rate (like 2%) so after the payment I can still save $2k a month. I'd probably just pay the car off in 3-4 years.

But again, I should use that money to pay off my house instead, but I want this car while I'm 30, not when I'm 45.

>>
>>16798346
>Plus you're gonna kill the resale value by putting tons of miles on it.
LOL good one there. The GTR market is weird; mileage doesn't really greatly affect the price for used ones. At most it's about 5k to 10k dollars less for a high mile GTR compared to the same year with much lower mileage.

There's a reason you never see any clean title GTRs below 40k USD. I think the cheapest clean title R35 I've ever seen was 45k for an 09 and it had 120,000k miles on it. A low mileage 09s were going for high 40's low 50s during that same time.

Also super low mileage cars also don't really sell for that much more either. Yes they get listed for a lot more but they very rarely get that price. On average the less than 10K miles cars only bring around 5k dollars more then the average mile GTR,

Most of the GTRs depreciation only occurs with the new cars. After that first owner the depreciation curve levels off considerably and becomes very flat do to Nissan constantly jacking up the price of the new ones.

How much is left after taxes?
Just curios.
I make around the same amount, the difference is I pay nearly 50% in taxes but I own a 100k dollar car myself.

The new r36 gtr is supposed to come out in a few years. People say it will be a hybrid along the lines of p1/918/laf. I doubt it will cost anywhere south of 200k. I would personally wait for them to announce the r36 and a few of them to hit the lot. This will cause the remaining new previous year model r35s to drop a decent amount in price. At that point you could decide if you want the r36 or just get an r35 at lower cost
>>
>>16801760
As the resident gojira fag here I can say the run costs of a GTR is the tale of 2 cars. The general maintenance cost is pretty low. An engine oil change if you have it done at the dealer is around $120 which isn't too far outside the norm If you do it yourself it's around 35 bucks because the GTR engine just takes normal Mobil 1. Pretty much the same story with the tires. The stock tires with the track suspension settings die pretty quick at 10k miles, but if you go with MPSS and have the dealer change the suspension over to street settings (which they will do for free during the POS) it's pretty easy to get 30k+ out of them.

Were the GTR gets pricey is with transmission oil changes every 36k miles which is around 700 bucks for just the fluid and another 700 bucks for labor for a total of 1400.

They can also get pricey on brakes. If you drive very aggressively you can kill as set of pads and rotors in about 30K miles. If you are a little less aggressive you can get 60-80k miles out of a set but when yo do have to replace them expect to drop around 6-7k if you want OEM. You can get aftermarket sets for around 1500 but they won't be cross-drilled like the OEMs rotors are. Pretty much all the aftermarket rotors are only slotted which is some ways that's better because they won't crack as easily as the OEM.
>>

>Were the GTR gets pricey is with transmission oil changes every 36k miles which is around 700 bucks for just the fluid and another 700 bucks for labor for a total of 1400.

>>
>>16803254
If you're interested in networking look for any network engineer fields. Security wise they're generally called security analyst and you might do more firewalls and security based reporting.

You see a lot of overlap in the two fields. As a network guy at my job I also do security. When a customer asks for a stupid firewall rule it's my job to say no, or I might look at netflows to see if something fishy is going on.

For better money move away from sysadmin type stuff. Your linux skills are good and they're used by all network and security guys, but sysadmin work pays a lot less than net/sec.

Also bigger companies = more important shit = more pay. Oh and cisco certs are always good.

Most Nissan dealers only get 1 as a showroom car. Unless your dealer is fancy enough to get multiple I doubt you will have much luck getting them to hand you the keys.

>coming here of all places to ask for consumer advice

Don't listen to the busriders here. Go take a test drive and get it if you like it, which I'm sure you will.
>>
>>16806101
>Fuck all the bullshit everyone is saying. Go test drive the car and buy it if you still like it after the test drive. But remember it's not the best idea to drive that car on short drives that don't bring the car up to temp. A 10 minure drive, unless you drive it hard while it's still cold will not get up to temp.

This sounds like a old boomer tale. Proofs?
>>
>>16806153
are you cartarded?
>>
>>16806294
Probably, and my mustang always gets up to temp on my 10 minute drive anywho so I'm not worried.
>>
>>16806313
yeah come to think about it you did sound like a shitstang driver
>>
>>16796664
actually the price dropped but i don't mind people thinking it's expensive. more glass statues for me.

Gojira dude here again. if you want to test drive one most of the time the dealers won't let you test drive a new one but the trick is to find a dealer that has a used one. They will be more than happy to let you test drive that one because it already has miles on it. Before I bought the gtr I currently have I test drove about 5 other gtrs and all I did was find the dealers that had used ones on thier lots. Really that same strategy works for just about any rare car or expensive car, because while I was looking I also got to test drive an r8, rs5, gallardo, 911 turbo and more than a few raptors.
>>
>>16796577
Do it if you want. You're right about money and only living once. I used to race motocross and spent about 10 grand a year on a new bike and parts every year for a decade. Now i sometimes wish i had that 100k invested somewhere but i don't regret it. All that money i spent was on me and i had a lot fun with it.
>>
>>16806781
That makes sense. Anybody buying a new GTR isn't going to want any miles on it.
>>
>>16806111
You walk in and bring up your checking account on your phone. Show you can buy the car cash and tell them to let you test drive it or you just go somewhere else. Yeah they may say no, but then you walk out and they call you back 4 hours later begging you to come test drive their car.
>>
>>16807431
GTR dude again-
I've never seen that actually work for anyone when buying exotic cars. When you start getting into cars like that the whole process of buying a new one is very different.

Most of the time the dealer will not let you test drive the exact car you are looking at. Either you have to buy it without test driving it or they have dedicated test drive models. The reason for this is most of the people buying cars like get all kinds of stressed out if they see anymore then 10 miles on a new car.. I've seen a lot people complain that they don't like that the new GTRs have between 40-160 miles from the factory due to Nissan testing them.
>>
>>16806111

That alone should be a sign that you can't afford one. If you actually looked and acted wealthy they'd let you take it for a rip.
>>
>>16803561
Yeah go buy an car notorious for having an unreliable valve dropping engine
>>

I picked up a 2013 premium from an older gentleman who traded it in for a 17 and they wouldn't even start the car for me until I had signed the papers. Keep in mind I drove 5 hours and made the appointment to see it a week in advance.

As far as buying one get anything but the Nismo. It is reliable and lovely to drive everyday at least compared to my STi so take that for what you will. For maintenance if $200 every few months + $700 once a year + $1700 every 30k miles + a set of tires once a year + $2000 for new front rotors (if you are tracking the car) sounds like it would alter your lifestyle you should probably consider something else. Another downside is sitting in traffic or general street driving isn't a whole lot of fun and getting to the speeds of fun where you are starting to push the car are well into jail time. Overall though its been a few months and I still absolutely love this car and would highly recommend it to those that can afford the luxury.

Just get w.e you want.

But how will I live knowing that /o/tists don't approve of how I spend my money?
>>
>>16796591
>>16796577
911's are harder to drive fast and safe.

Why not buy a Ford Focus RS?

Its beastly and easy to drive. And you save a lot of moonies for mods, or even a second car.

What's your budget?

What does /o/ think of pic related?
>>
>>16803395

Totally area specific.

In LA theres no way because you need to make 100k a year to not live in a squat.

In the midwest where OP is 100k goes crazy far.
>>
>>16796577
>You only live once
You are fucking stupid, but hey if you think like this go ahead and buy a brand new car. Cars depreciate in value, sooo much in that it's not a worthwhile investment. Have fun being a cock magnet with your car.
>>
>>16800108
Implying you know how or could even handle a motorcycle. From the stuff you have Posted you seem like a scooter guy
>>
>>16811988
>Why not buy a Ford Focus RS?

You can get a base Corvette for a couple grand more. The RS is already tuned to the limit where the Corvette really has no limit.
>>
>>16803395
What do you do and where do you do it?
>>
>>16796577

pay off your debts anon..

then do your thing.

the gtr aint getting any slower.
>>
>>16814883
Actually they are. The 2017 model is slower then the 16 model by a lot due to the softing that nissan did. For pure performance the 14 track edition is the best without going to the nismo. Of the non track editions the 13-14s are you next best performance years then in 15 nissan started to make the car more of a grand tourer then a track beast with a much softer suspension. I still think for daily driving the 15-16s offer the compromise between track monster and gt car.
>>
>>16812150
fun and exotic but cripplingly impractical as a daily driver, especially if your daily commute requires you to carry anything more than a jacket and phone along with you.

there are plenty of other cars around the GTR's price point that are sporty and amazing to drive without being boring German luxury sedans.
>>
>>16799572
This. Try owning a skyline GTR, it will rape your wallet a new asshole.

35 is pretty reliable and affordable to maintain (for now).
>>
>>16796664
>~$30k
Or, you know, 5.

Which you only need to spend on pre-2010 models or newer ones if you start pushing big power.
>>
>>16815629
Then buy a slightly used 2016 one or do minor mods to a 2017? Cars don't just disappear at the start of a new calendar year.
>>
>>16808458
Does it have AI control?
>>
pay of your house you idiot!

the nissan aint getting any slower.

...

also, if you gave a million to some people they would just burn it.

the transmission is fine if you actually allow it time to bed in naturally and dont fk it up on purpose..

but you know, if you drive it like you stole it..

most things will fall apart.

depends on the kind of person you are...

although some things are built to work.

OP the faggot here. Good to know, and the 2017 is even more drivable now too.

I'm going to pull the trigger in the middle of next year. Thanks for all the advice buds.
