AWD = center diff, all wheels driven all the time

4WD = Transfer case with center diff sending power from the middle to both the front and rear, normally also has multiple gear ratios and lockable diffs

An Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse is a FWD car, that could be equipped with AWD. This car would send most of it's power to the front, while some goes to the back.
A GTR though sends between 50 and 100% of its power to the rear wheels at all times.
