Exactly that. I helped drop transmissions and engines, did servicing, tyre pressures, gaskets etc. I was essentially an unofficial apprentice.

All the mechanics I talked to, both at my work and at other places, were pretty unhappy with the pay and how the job is perceived by others. It was a fairly fun job but I don't think I could do it as a living, it made me realize cars are better as a hobby than a living. And it's also really only fun when it's your own car.

The plus side is that I was paid to learn how to wrench.

If you you think the SP25 had laggy throttle, you should drive and an unmodified MZR-CD. Although it's not really throttle lag as much as turbo lag combined with a variable vane turbo that doesnt like to produce much boost under 1500rpm. They go like a shower of shit from 1500 to 3000rpm then shows over.
After getting the dpf and ecu tuned it produces better low end boost and response. Allegedly 180HP/440Nm after tune and dpf removal. Only problem is you really need gloves to refuel as the bowser handles are always oily.

The 6 speed box itself has a higher final drive than the 5 speed box

The difference being that usually the 6 speed cars have a slightly lower diff ratio.

What you want is a 4.3/4.4 (Or even a 4.7) and a 6 speed.

If you had the highest rear gear available (Which has to be frankenstined from a kia minivan diff) you'd be at 3.9k at 110 (Stock tyres)
