Why is alcantara so fugly doe.
Alcantara just sucks altogether, it wears smooth over time even on non contact surfaces, it hasn't been an issue since most manufacturers have only been using it for the last decade but if you look at a 90s car that has it it's always in bad shape, even on garage queens

why is alcantara a thing in the first place?
what does it offer in terms of comfort or aesthetics that leather doesn't offer?

this looks much better than leather/suede

I think it's fine on the dash and door tops but not just slathered everywhere. Germans struggle with style.

alcantara reminds me of the 9/11 collapse bystanders caked in dust

It is nice to touch, good because it doesn't reflect light on things like dash tops and A pillars, and it has a luxury appeal since it's typically on luxury cars. I understand why they use it, it's just not a good long term material, hard to clean, wears out strangely, and you can't restore it like normal leather.

Shitty racecar memes similar to carbon fibre trim. Has an actual purpose in a racecar, but it's just silly in a street car.
Alcantara is used in racecars for grip which is why it's mainly wrapped on steeringwheels, seats, and gear knobs.

Alex Jones is that you?
I don't care if it's matted down, it feels way better than leather on a wheel and isn't near as sensitive to temperature.
