what does /o/ know about mobile cranes?
i operate 3 axle 45t fauncrane. its one of the smaller ones. in germany all you need is a C/CE license (trucks+trailer).
what kind of license is requierd in your contry? murrica/canada/australia would interest me in particular
>>
Just a regular drivers license is all you need in America.
>>

in germany there is a 2-3year apprenticeship for truck drivers, althoug its not necessary. but there is no such thing for mobile cranes. i think its kind of odd since a lot of more knowledge and skill is needed to work a mobile crane and it there is far more danger involved
>>
just look at this badass. you need to move 100t? babyweight
>>
>>16782659
Any crane is mobile. Just disassemble it into sections.

Biggest crane-on-a-truck I've seen was one that was basically a small convoy. One truck with the crane, with the rest of the convoy carrying ballast, boom extensions, pads to set the stabilisers on, and so forth.
Being used smack in the middle of the London financial district to swap out HVAC units.
>>
I use to operate something similar when setting outriggers do you put the front two down first to make the truck level, then adjust the back two?
>>
>>16782749
there's something very satisfying about how many wheels that thing has pointed in so many directions
>>
>>16783005
i level it by the air suspension after blocking the axles. then i bear it up, the tires supposed to lose contact to the ground. i underlay wooden beams, if the surrface is flat one layer is enough but sometimes you have to stack up to five layers especially if you place the crane at a incline
>>
>>16782999
i understand what you mean but building cranes are stationary whereas mobile cranes can are selfmoving. two weeks ago i helped building up one of these >>16782749 500 tone cranes.
like you said it came with a convoy of three trucks. my 45t crane looks like a toy compared to this one.
>>
>>16783081
yes its great. and it is absolutly necessary since you couldnt maneuver it through any curve elseway. you can even move all wheels into the same direction and move sidewards. well, you will still move forwards or backwards since you cant move the wheels up to 90 degree. just imagine all axles in the position of the first three wheels in the pic, you get the idea
>>
>>16782659
Why are there so many accidents involving them on the motorways?
>>
>>16783304
they are "selfdriving" workmachines. their actuall purpose is not to drive around like lets say a truck a bus or a car.
the powers the application of force during the craneing themself, the change over from one place to another with balast applyed and the manovering into the right spot at narrow building yards,
all those stress out the vehicle parts. the fact alone that you can direct every axle determinates that you dont have a vehicle that drives 100% straight. it often happens that the crane is pulled to one site or another while driving.
never drive to close to a mobile crane

What does the steering control on something like that look like?

Sat in class for a couple hours on a Saturday and they gave me a card.

They have shitty Nurburgring times.

Texan here: For a long time it was "Sit your butt down and pull this lever." Regulation was a local option.

Then there were enough people killed that some states/ municipalities passed laws at the local level. Likewise, some project owners, industrial trade groups, etc. established their own training requirements.

A crane operator's license didn't become an OSHA priority until the late '90s. In the late '00s, it became an OSHA safety rule enforceable on all job sites.

tl; dr: Training was pushed up from the local level, then adopted as federal rule.
>>
>>16784564
This was for cranes already at the jobsite. For the over-the-road transport portion, each state sets its own driver's license requirements.
>>
>>16783304
I don't know that there are.

Most are oversize, and require escorts.
>>
>what kind of license is requierd in your contry? murrica
None, unless your driving on public roads (then you need a regular license, or CDL if it's too big). Land of the free and all that jazz.
Some employers require one to operate their equipment though. So it's roughly on part with forklifts.
>>
That's a horribly wrong set up back wheels are suppose to stay on the ground
