4.6L V-8 with 290hp...probably faster than half of what's been posted.
>>16777160
The 273 was the standard running gear in the Barracuda at the time. The mid '60s were the breaking point just before Detroit started stuffing big blocks into pony cars. Had the Ghia been released one or two years later, it might've gotten a bigger engine already. Or maybe not, since fuel economy and weight mattered more in European cars, hence why the Buick 215 was so popular after it was adopted by Rover, and why AC never thought to put a bigger engine in the Cobra.
Try me

The wings aren't add ons. The wing mounts run through the trunk to the frame. They didn't sell because they were impractical, and nobody wanted to insure them. Looks had nothing to do with it.
>>16779661
This, this was the time period when insurance companies were charging based on horsepower
plus the 426 Hemi only had a 90 day warranty compared to the 10k mile on wedgeheads

Arent v8s supposed to be able to put out immense power?
Enlighten me pls
>>16780862
post leaded-fuel era muscle cars turned into low rpm torque monsters with good 0-60 times but with horrid horsepower numbers
>>16780862
with American v8s most of the idea is to have massive torque all though the rpm band
main problem being that the suspension and tires can not deal with that kind of power so it pays to be smooth with the throttle
even the v12 they make produces 75% of its total torque at only 1000 rpm

>>16776450
My nigga. I own a '95 myself. Hear there's rumors of Lincoln bringing something out based on the Mustang.
>>16780862
The engines are built to put out the max amount of power, just enough power to get the job done. The unused potential can be thought of as fuel savings when left stock.
>>16780998
I get the impression that Americans are more harsh on their cars
covering more distance and with less maintenance

In theory yes.
In practice even the gigantic 7 liter v8s could get like 18mpg because you barely had to crack the throttle to get going.

Pleez. Can we get off this "EcoBoost DualTurbo" bullshit?!?
>>16780862
>Arent v8s supposed to be able to put out immense power?
Look at the year of the car; with the gas crunch of the 70's EVERYTHING dropped in HP. The Mustang, the same platform this Lincoln was based on was cranking 150hp just a few years before. As fuel injection got better and gas got cheaper, the HP started to pick up again. I think the same year Corvette (98) produced 345HP. These days a new Mustang make, 405HP? It all fluctuates depending on gas prices and tech..

t. in Britain but could probably import a car from the states for not too much money
>>16788206
>Care to mention what these underappreciated muscle cars are?
OP is a good example.
Mercury Cougar is a mustang that's slightly uglier but much much cheaper.
Also Mercury Marauders which are like full size big block land-titanics.
One of the problems is how flexible the market is, last year 69-70 Camaros were the car to have and the prices were astronomical. This year C10 trucks are starting to climb rapidly.
Chevy Nova's will always be cheap, they are one of if not the most common muscle/classic car still around today and they can support big block V8.
The problem with these is only the SS cars survived (not really, people buy a base model and replicate SS cars and sell them for a gigantic markup).
Ford Rancheros are dirt cheap, basically Ford's answer to the El Camino.
They take a number of body styles through the years from other Ford cars but they're usually in the realm of $1000 to $7000 dollars depending on what year.
You'll never find a cheap Charger or Trans-am or Cobra Jet Torino or something like that, those are the main stream muscle cars.
>>16784129
I'd hope they put a coyote in it but it won't be the base engine.
