A class C RV. Duh. Preferably built on an old Toyota pickup.
Failing that, the smallest box truck I can find.

Do the same to each; strip it to the rails, new insulation, new wiring, new plumbing, Cat5E, water tank, shower, large reserve batteries, loft bed near the ceiling, maximum through-cabin airflow, scratch built evaporative air cooler for when shit gets really hot.

I ain't living in no econoline.

So the problem is that the cars that are best for living in attract too much attention. Like an old panel van would work great but the cops would always be stopping to check it out.
I think the best compromise would be a newish minivan with heavy tint on the back windows.

I would either just use the bathrooms at work or at a store like WalMart. The parks in my area have wifi and toilets so I took advantage of both. If you are in a city there are bathrooms everywhere and if you are in the woods everywhere is a bathroom.

>Shower
I used baby wipes and did hobo baths (washcloth/buck of water and soap) in my car and in bathrooms to keep clean most of the time. No one complained about BO so I guess I was staying clean enough. Unfortunately where I was the only gym had been shady as fuck with peoples credit card info in the past so gym showers were out of the question. I got a bit chunk, would of loved to have a gym available. Would have killed time on days off also. If I felt I wasnt keeping up with being clean Id go to a truck stop and take a shower. But that shit is to expensive to do it on a regular basis.

I actually have one of these vans and they aren't bad. I'd recommend going for the extended wheelbase and extended ceiling for maximum space. If you have the money, you're better off going with a Mercedes-Benz sprinter which can offer a diesel 4WD with a third factory passenger seat in the front (literally the only cargo van manufacturer that does this)

Uh.. Yes. It pretty much does. Once a car costs more to repair than it's worth, it's scrapped. So if it isn't reliable it doesn't make it to 400k. Hence why I doubt you could ever find more than a couple of select examples of 400k alphas but there are several diesel trucks and truck-based vans and SUVs around.

Thats my point, American trucks are cheaper to maintain, and thats the only thing they have going for them, because the only thing you can rely on them is that something is going to break eventually.
But they are not cheap to buy or maintain anywhere else in the globe, so they kind of work in America, but they are shit everywhere else

>This

I've been living in my Volvo XC70 for three years now and it's been perfect.
With a fancy outdoor mat and my sleeping bag combined with the petrol powered Volvo heater it's bloody comfy inside.

I think the key to it is that I basically use it pretty much just as a bed.
I do all my eating at restaurants, I go to the gym every morning for some exercise a good shit and a shower before work.
Clothes are all merino and I drop them off at the dry cleaners.
So me and my car stays clean and free from smells/sweat/food.

I save so much money not owning a home I can afford myself these luxuries with plenty of ease.
Also if I take a girl home it's usually hers, go to a friends place if they are away or I just book a cheap motel, it's fine.

The great advantage of a Volvo over a rape van is that I blend in seamlessly in suburbia and even if I park in a middle-class neighbourhood nobody knows I'm sleeping inside my Volvo.

I also have a curtain behind the front seats made from the light absorbent felty material photographers use.
It pretty much just looks really dark inside.

But in my experience people don't look inside simply because it's a Volvo, it's inconspicuous.

The only thing drawing attention is the fuel driven heater since that makes a tiny bit of noise but the only issue with that I've ever had was that someone put a note under my wiper telling me that my car made some faint humming noise. That person never noticed me sleeping inside.

I wanted a Volvo so bad but the information about poor reliability with etm and automatic transmissions scared me off.
>>
>>16768905
It's anecdotal but mine has been fine.
I've been driving XC70's since 2002 and to me they were reliable but I do shell out for the fancy regular dealer maintenance.

Really the problem is some people think as Volvo's being cheap to maintain, that's a myth, maintenance and repair is as expensive as premium German brands especially on the XC70, it's a pretty darn complex machine.

People who know what they are getting into are usually pretty happy with their choice.
A well serviced 04-07 is usually also pretty fine, the early P2 XC70 transmission is showing it's age and people are simply selling it without getting it fixed throwing the problems in someone else lap.

Also they are usually toight as a tiger in every department even with 100K miles on the clock.

>or at a store like WalMart.
While Walmart hasn't closed off restrooms, a lot of local stores no longer have public restrooms. Since our local law requires a place that sells ready to eat foodstuffs to also have a restoom, some places fought the law indirectly by always putting up a "restroom being cleaned" sign or an employee would deny use with the non-committal "restroom floors are wet" or some other trite saying. That was how they kept out homeless from using up their restrooms, having sex, dealing in there, shooting up, and ransacking the paper towels and toilet paper. How do I know? I always wash hands before and after eating and I would be granted use of the restroom at the pizza parlor, restaurant, or other shop that had such tactics.

>What car would you get if you had to live in it?
Something without windows as those fog up. When the police or security or passersby see fogged up windows, it gets reported that there's some homeless living there on their parking lot or neighborhood streetside.

The best choice is a van of some sort as it also has flat and tall floorspace which is essential for a living or resting area.

>non of those will attract any attention
ANYthing with windows that fog up will attract attention. That is what people look for as described by both the police and homeowners in our local meetings. We don't have a formal HOA, but we do have neighborhood meetings and a block watch type program.

Whenever there is a possible problem, rather than the individual homeowner calling the police, we call whoever is on watch duty (we don't have a formal patrol walking around like sentries). But the team on watch then quickly assembles to inspect the problem. If there is a homeless, the team then calls the police. Because this is an official neighborhood function AND because not only a homeowner has detected the problem but a partially trained (by police) team has inspected the problem, vettted it, and called it in, the police respond right away. Such things the police like because they have much less chance of wasting their time. Sometimes, even up to three police cars have come! That is response when you have an official program. The police can rely on your calls to be solid and useful.

The police showed up with three cruisers that time because the car belonged to someone that had warrants.

>you're an idiot if you think you can park at any walmart anywhere
It varies. My local walmarts (all of them) no longer allow any overnight parking or loitering. There are zero cars, zero trucks, zero campers anywhere. Security exists 24 hours.

The walmarts used to allow travelers as the lots have plenty of room. But then homeless started camping out and spreading crime. Thus walmart had to ban all loiterers because it is discriminatory (illegal) to ban just homeless. Yes, because it is illegal to have used bathwater, you must also throw out the baby with the bathwater as that saying goes. The homeless SPOILED a good thing.

Our public parks also have their parking areas officially closed after 9PM unless there is a public event at that park. They become tow zones, thus anyone parked there will not be allowed by the police to leave until the tow truck that has been summoned shows up and collects the tow fee from the illegal parker. If the money is not immediately available, the car is impounded and towed that night to impound where it collects fees and fines. As a result of being extra strict with immediate towing, no one illegally parks in the public parks after hours. Again the homeless ruin a good thing at the parks not to mention making parks risky to be if there aren't other people there preventing muggings. 2 years ago, a nun was walking on a park trail and she was sexxxored by a homeless rapist. Raping nuns is pretty low.

So, any vehicle that gets labeled as "homeless car" gets people trying to kick it out of the area. You must try to avoid the homeless look with your vehicle.

It's possible to buy a prepaid debit card and you can then use it at shady places that you can't trust. Unfortunately, there is a loading fee of $3.50 each time you reload money into them. And they have a $5 per month fee just for having the card. But that's really not all that much money for most people.

It's like that here too. But the city forced them to as a result of anti-loitering city ordinances. Walmart parking lots that enable loiterers may cause walmart to be blamed in lawsuits involving crime and loiterers.

>The great advantage of a Volvo over a rape van is that I blend in seamlessly in suburbia and even if I park in a middle-class neighbourhood nobody knows I'm sleeping inside my Volvo.

You fixed the biggest problem of avoiding detection that you are living the "Free Life". While I am a homeowner and have a career job, I don't think of you as homeless. Maybe I am just more careful not to negatively label everyone not in an apartment or house as homeless. But your lifestyle is not unknown to some retired rich people. Some of them do not own homes but live alternative lifestyles in hotels for months at a time. This is what gave way to those "residence inns" as well as ocean-going liners with permanent guests staying aboard for six months to a year or more at a time.

The real homeless that we homeowners detest piss and poop in our yards which means I cannot even walk barefoot on my grass or have a pet go outside and come back in without inspection and cleaning. And even wearing shoes brings residue into my garage floor. They throw syringes into the yard, and losing the freedom to walk FREELY and carelessly in your own lush grass is obnoxious. But no one wants to be stabbed by syringes and debris from homeless living streetside.

>this sprint vans are the best choice for building your own
They are practical for building inside, and hiding your stuff from view, but they stick out at night. Maybe a solution is to find a business that has more of those vans and park near them. Then you will not stick out unless the business park security guard has learned to count vans or custom checks vehicles.

The industry park with such service vans actually has security patrol in cars but they do get out and walk around on foot patrol. That's because they carry a GPS sensor that tracks if they do their duty or not, so they have to at least walk certain routes on inspection. If you snore, they will probably hear you. Because signs are posted about no trespassing as well as tow, the police aren't required to just give a warning and let you go. They can detain for tresspasing right away, but you'll get released on your own recognizance at the police station after you pay the fine. You'll then have to go get your towed van out of impound.
>>
>>16768442
>nobody will bother you if youre parked in the middle of nowhere
Thieves will attack your vehicle at night if they see it during the day at that location. So you have to keep away and only park there at night.

So you're saying, that in Italy, you regularly see 400k mile Alfas? I literally can't believe that.

They're no cheaper to maintain than any other domestic vehicle, but you don't see 400k mile Ford Focuses or Mustangs or Caveliers or even Civics and Corollas, despite the average purchase price and part cost for any of those cars being cheaper and easier to find than for the big trucks and SUVs.

They last a long time because they've got oversized, under-tuned engines, stronk suspension and driveline components, heavy duty everything, and chances are, they were rarely used for heavy duty tasks meaning they're relatively well taken care of compared to the abuse they were designed to take. Also very few city miles on the average Expedition/SilveradoHD/whatever because lolparking and lolfueleconomy.

So.. No. Being cheap to maintain doesn't inheirently make something more reliable. Being more reliable makes them more reliable.
>>
>>16763314
>What car would you get if you had to live in it?

It would have to be a vehicle that can be parked such that the police or security don't stop to inspect it wondering if there is someone in there. If they inspect it, then I'd either have to move or pay a fine for loitering.

One way to avoid moving or getting a loitering charge is to park in a city that was successfully prosecuted by obama's justice department or has had court orders issued against it when Obama was president. Those places had injunctions against enforcing laws against persons of color, but for political purposes, it was enforced as homeless protection and anti-profiling.

>If I want to I can just fill a bag and leave the country with any emotional bagage.

That's also a problem America has. Many people have no emotional loyalty to the country or its people. They just come to america to grab all the money they can. People with that attitude make me want to have all "Free Living" people on the street arrested for vagrancy and loitering. More cities need to enact no loitering laws and instead of issuing warnings, just immediately issue a citation and tow the car to impound. Those people don't want to be americans anyways.

Most of them can't really go all that fast, as they are geared down when converted. Mine tops at 109mph and takes forfuckingever to get there.

Cops generally don't stop you if you don't drive like a nigger, but you get a lot of interested passersby if you park it anywhere that's not a cemetery or funeral parlor.

>What car would you get if you had to live in it?
None. Outdoor temps get to 35 or lower for at least 2 months straight. At those temps, everything freezes due to the evaporative effect. Due to temps, almost all of the water vapor inside turns into condenstion on all surfaces. The car becomes a moldy place unless heated.
>>
>>16787957
>Wouldn't a van be perfect?
Criminals use white-sided vans as mentioned in our block watch. So you have a huge problem parking them in any residential area. You could put fake company logos on the outside, but that only backfires as it makes the van more identifiable in gossip. If you use the name of an existing company, that company could complain to the police and they would of course impound such an illegal vehicle for impersonation under the identity theft law.

My state is ranked #47 on property crimes theft which is the type of theft homeless and opportunity crime type petty burglars do. So it's no wonder the police and communities are trying to fight back even though the activists claim it is racist and economic discrimination.

Just get one with VERY dark tinted windows. Because yeah panel vans in a neighborhood at night are going to attract some attention. At least if you have "windows" it's less likely to attract that kind of attention.

I think you could do it if you moved almost every day and never stayed in the same place multiple nights in a row.

Nobody's gonna call the cops in one night but if you stick around you're probably gonna get some worried neighbors.
