One time a guy in front of me was trying to move from the right lane to the left, and nobody in the left lane would allow him to, even though traffic was moving at a decent clip and it was no big deal. I eventually got tired of it and just swept over into the left lane, cutting off the car in front of me, just so the car in front could move over. I then proceeded back to the right lane.

People who merge at the last second are the reason why you get massive backups and jams on the highway. If everyone was able to maintain speed through the light or ramp you'd maximize efficiency. Using the brakes to stop is bad because you have less control. When you downshift to slow down before coming to a stop, you don't even need to brake and you still have control of the vehicle. Meanwhile, when you're coasting in a high gear, you always end up braking hard because your momentum is spinning the engine at that point.

I don't bother to merge in front of people who are obviously jamming up against the car in front of them so nobody can get in """their""" lane. What I look for is somebody who's left a spot available to merge in.

I have the same approach with people merging onto the interstate from onramps; if they have their signal on and are actually TRYING to find a gap instead of just plowing in there is a lot less harm in my backing off about 2mph for a few seconds to make space than there is in nobody giving him any room for any reason and him being stuck either cutting someone off (dangerous), driving on the shoulder (possibly dangerous), or blocking all the rest of the onramp and sitting STOPPED and even further unable to merge (dangerous for him, anyone behind him on onramp, and traffic on the street they came from).


If you're merging, don't be a dick. If you're in the through lane, don't be a dick. In all cases, don't go out of your way to be a fucking dick, and traffic will flow much more smoothly for all involved.

Yep, they do that to avoid waiting in the right turn lane. They drive in the lane marked straight ahead only, then make a sharp right turn at the intersection, thus avoiding using the right turn lane.

The same happens with left turn lanes at traffic lights. Occasionally someone cheats by not waiting in line. They take cuts by racing up on the right and then turning left, forcing the legit driver to let them in.

I cuck myself willingly every morning and evening driving to/from work.

My right knee is basically fucked up so being piled up and switching back and forth between accelerating and breaking ends up being very painful. I leave a very large space in front of me to I never have to use my brakes.

Leaving a huge space in front of me ends up keeping the traffic moving at the same speed anyways.

This is everyday in Toronto on the 401 and DVP, both very disgusting freeways to drive on.

No it isn't because a line in traffic is not the same as a line in a store. You're not lining up to get into a concert or movie to get the best seats, you're not lining up to check out at the store. You're lining up to...clear a particular section of roadway, and for some reason people choose NOT to utilize the available lanes around them simply because they are ending soon, but then get self righteous when people don't do the same.

Get a knee brace if you don't have one already at your local walmart or other similar store.

Pull your seat a little further back so that your right leg is mostly straight at the knee. You now apply gas by flexing the foot at the ankle not the knee which remains unmoving. You brake by rotating the foot over to the brake as you normally do. Press the brake pedal with the foot moving at the angle and not the knee.

The amount of knee movement is much less than if you sit close to the pedals with your leg bent at the knee. So many drivers do this and I don't know why. I don't have a bad leg and I always prefer sitting far back from the pedals with my leg mostly straight. I push pedals with the tip of my foot.

When choosing a brace, if you get the knee brace with the velcro straps, it is easy to apply after you get into the car. It is easy to remove inside the car while you are parked at the destination. That way no one knows you have a brace.

In honor of your knee, here is a picture of a sedan with just enough room to insert a leg. I don't know what model of car it is. But it is modern enough to have airbags inside the seat upholstery. Gag. Not even the chevrolet Cavalier looked so cheap since it didn't show thread lines and it had at least 13 inches of legroom.

In terms of knee braces, I've got those soft ones that I can slip on, but I'll pick up those one of those stiffer ones that strap on.

This was pretty recent, but I was told that it should heal, just no exercise for a couple months. Remember everyone, stop your routine if form starts slipping... Not worth trying to push that little bit if you can't maintain form ...

I had arthroscopic surgery of my knee long ago but still had to drive. So the rehab specialist advised me to pull the seat back a bit to keep the knee joint from needing to flex and bend when using the accelerator and brake pedals.

I noticed that even after healing, it was easier to sit far back. There's no need to scoot forward just to provide leg room to non-existent passengers in the rear seat anyways....

Just like any line anywhere, the goal is to insert yourself at the head of the line. That way you avoid waiting in line. Use any mental justification you want - others certainly do.

Some people feel they themselves are above waiting in line. Their ego doesn't allow them to wait if they can fool you or brute force their way ahead of you.

The purpose the other poster had in mind is to make sure the line cutter looks like he is cutting in line. That way, others will notice him and his face and plates more.

So that other poster had a good idea. Since the line isn't really moving that much, no one in line was really delayed because everyone will come to a stop again very soon anyways.

If the police has your plate, or other cars had dashcam footage of your bike's plate, the police can still show up at your home. If the bike wasn't reported stolen, then they will have a case.

At that point, the car in line has to stop because the CHEATER exploits a technicality of the law. If the person in line then hits the CHEATER, that is a deliberate collision and is the fault of the victim in line. This is what makes it so annoying to have cheaters zoom up on the shoulder where there is not even a lane but enough space to drive. I see this a lot.

You know those posters are right. There are lots of bad things drivers do and brag about, but they would NEVER dare do it to a police car. They're afraid of a traffic ticket, a moving violation, or even reckless driving if it is racing to the head of the line and cutting across the head of the line. A turn at the head of the line is not a merge but is instead a reckless driving illegal left or right turn forcing all other traffic to stop or they will hit you.
