Exactly. What's the point?

Welp, I think the plugs I put in my rear tire a couple of weeks ago have a slow leak. Had 30 psi then, stopped and checked them on my ride today and @20psi. >>16754155
It's not legal and you can get a ticket for it.

It's a fix-it ticket so you can just put the fender on and show it to court, so cops don't bother writing the ticket because it won't stick.

>>
>>16754215

Because you get a ticket for it, show up to court after putting the fender back on, take a picture, and show the judge, say "I fixed it no ticket pls"

Judge throws it out, and you're free to put it back until you get stopped again.

Nobody is going to enforce something where it gets thrown out that easily. It doesn't hurt anyone, and nobody really gives a shit. We don't feel the need to enforce stupid draconic laws when there's stuff cops could be doing that benefits the public more.

Daily reminder that REAL MOTORCYCLING™ is exclusively low speed control.

Anyone that goes faster than 75mph on a motorcycle is not a real motorcyclist and should. No one should ride any motorcycles with more than 50hp and everyone should wear a textile oversuit, knee pads, neck condom, leg condoms, elbow pads, elbow condoms, helmet and head condom, full elbow length gloves with integrated glove condom, boots, boot condoms, chest protector, chest condom, etc. or you're not a REAL MOTORCYCLIST™ and in a crash your shitty leather and CE padding will explode compared to my impenetrable textile armor that I wear to political rallies and beat people up in.

wew, the "we sell you a bike, oh by the way here's an overpriced KLIM" kinda guys
i can't tell you how many times we get calls from stealerships that go as follows:
"Hi, do you have a shoei rf-1200 in x color y size?"
"why yes we do"
"alright, what's the price on that?"
"that'll be x dollars and y cents sir and or madam"
"no i mean, what's *our* price?"
"...it's x dollars and y cents"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T WIPE OUR ASS CAUSE YOU'RE A BUSINESS WHO MAKES PRODUCT? I DESERVE A DISCOUNT FOR BEING A ***DEALERSHIP***"
of all the places we make fun of for their high-brow snobbery and absolute disassociation from reality, dealerships top the list, alongside people who wear KLIM
>>16755829
can't agree more, if it fit me i would've bought an rf-1200 vessel. unfortunately shoei caters more towards round-circle shaped heads rather than long oval so i went with an arai.
can't argue though, the arai is the coziest helmet i've ever worn. i really can't take anything from shoei though, if i could fit one i would wear one.

Lel I manage the dealership I work for and I don't pull shit like that. We have distrubutors for a reason. We are a small dealership and carry very little gear and usually send people out to cycle gear in Sacramento to get that kind of shit. I was making a joke with you because I had no real comeback lmao I know the variant is a total meme bucket but I like it and it matches my jacket/gloves. cycle queer is super cool with dealers, letting us come out for bike nights and shit for free to promote the business is pretty bro tier.

yeah, BiLT is our "store brand" made in pakistan, lots of cheap materials and whatnot, i'd stay away from it.
for example: my roommate is also another coworker and he bought a pair of BiLT dempsey boots just cause he needed a pair of shoes, our retailer showed that while they retail for $80, they cost the company $11.
BiLT is only there so our company has better margins. Another thing to note is our company got a notice that BiLT products now have a one year warranty rather than 5 year and our "sedici" line now has a 2 year rather than lifetime. something to note when you come into a store in the future. I will say for being "store brand" sedici stuff has really impressed me in recent time.
>>16755913
never for orders, but sometimes a dealership will call us looking for a stock transfer that they can just sorta come across town and pick up same day for a customer.

Fair enough, a lot of times after a customer has purchased through us and wants gear I'll just send them out to the nearest cycle gear because the one in Sacramento is fuckhuge and has pretty much every piece of gear you could ever want. Not one of the shitty small stores that seemingly only carries bilt and sedici bullshit. I'll just be honest I tell them to avoid that shit at all costs. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the BiLT helmets aren't actually DOT approved. Friend had a modular BiLT helmet I told him not to buy and the whole chin bar assembly broke off when he had a crash at 30mph. It blows me away how often I see BiLT gear out in the wild. Do people even care about protecting their heads/extremities?
>>
>>16755897
>I get back pain
>Low clip on handlebars
>on a bike that wasn't designed for low clip on bars
No surprise.
You realize bikes are designed as a system around an intended riding position, right? it fucks shit up like that when you massively alter one part without doing anything to the others
>>
>>16755989
not really, i'll have customers come in on stretched 'BOOSA's and talk about the deal they're getting on a clearence BiLT they're getting for $40 bucks
Call me shilling though, but as much as i abhor BiLT, there are Sedici products i would wear. The Strada primo helmets actually have fiberglass/kevlar shells and carry snell 2015 rating and are something i'd 'actually' consider wearing.
we put all our returned helmets through the bead breaker on our tire machine and those fuckers actually withstand a fuckload of force before failing pretty spectacularly

Interesting. I have a pair of Sedici gloves that I got for free with rewards points back when you guys were having that program and they feel pretty good desu. I think they were something like $130 retail or some shit so the store probably got them for like $20 kek. Still appreciated the gesture though and do wear them from time to time.

How do the BiLT helmets hold up to the bead breaker?

The thing that always gets me is when I see somebody on a $30,000+ bike and they're wearing maybe $200 worth of exclusively BiLT gear.
>>
>>16756045
bilts crush fairly easy because they have a plastic shell, which is where i get my distain for ICON being they sell their airmadas for 250-280 even though they have the same plastic shell construction basically. Their main selling point is graphics/hydradry tech/they're comfy to wear
plastic shells don't disperse energy, they just dimple inwards until they break and rely on the foam crush liner.
fiberglass/kevlar shells will hold firm because the glass shatters to disperse energy while the fibers hold the shell together (think ceramic armor on tanks). at some point though it fails and shatters, but that's after tons of force that the BiLT couldn't even think of handling. We had michio arai come into our store once to do a demonstration on one of their fiberglass composite shells though and demonstrated that the shell itself, without the foam crush liner will hold up to 1000lbs force before breaking.
needless to say i wear an arai currently

Yeah that's what I like about the variant. I wouldn't even consider an airmada because even though I enjoy the steeze factor of icon gear those airmadas are a sad excuse of a helmet. The variant has a triple composite Fiberglas/dyneema/carbon fiber shell that I actually trust and I get that memetastic icon steeze with it which makes me happy.

>loud pipes save lifes
Truth or meme?
I don't have experience with getting overlook and I figure especially in dense cities it's good to be heard before seen. Downside is the annoying boiracer image.
>>
>>16756533
Truth. I went from a dead quiet bike to a liter vtwin with aftermarket exhaust and getting cut off and merged into nearly stopped.

On my old bike it was literally almost every time I went out somebody in a car would seemingly try to kill me, on my new bike it's like once a month.
>>
>>16756533
People fail to see my truck, these are the same people who fail to see motorcycles, loud pipes won't do shit.
>>
>>16756533
To a point it's true. Completely unmuffled exhausts suck though. They sound cool for a week or two, then get very annoying as the rider, and incredibly annoying to those around you such as neighbors and traffic.

That being said, a pleasant sounding bike that can be heard is safer than a scooter-tier silent exhaust, just as long as it's not obnoxious.
>>
>>16756533
Meme. If you ride defensively all situations in which a loud pipe would make a difference can be avoided.

Where do I start with wrenching on bikes? My dad bought me an old RT-1 when I was a kid and it's been in storage for years and while I don't think that there's really anything really wrong with it (it was running when it was put away) it certainly needs maintenance and I'd like to show it some TLC now that I have more money and more spare time. I have access to my dad's shop and hoard of tools so I was thinking that I'd get a manual or two to do some basic maintenance and maybe something more complex if that goes well.

I've had sleep onset insomnia my entire life, but I think it's been exacerbated lately because I'm anxious. I don't really have any major life goals anymore.

What? You don't need to save tons of money for a trip like that, literally all you need is money for the flight and a cheap shitbike, travel visa and time (quit your day job because you won't be there for a while anyway).
>>
>>16756680
I can actually work remotely, so I could just slum around Yurop while collecting paychecks. Yes I could afford it, but I could also pay off my student loans instead so feel really bad about spending even that much money.
That's totally hypocritical because I'm dumping money into my bike right now but whatever.

The GS500 is objectively the best beginner bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke twin cylinder bike, so it drinks less than 6 liters per 100 km.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport, spoiling you for when you get something else. But it can also corner much better than something like a cruiser, and actually uses its entire rear tire unlike a Ninja 250.
> brakes
They are complete shit and their only redeeming feature is that they're disc brakes. This is good because the longer braking distance forces new riders to plan ahead and start braking early. No ABS means they learn to brake properly I'd they don't want to get shrekt.
> power
It sits right at the power limit for A2 bikes which is great for euros. It's torquey enough to be faster off the line than most cars you'll encounter in the city. But it also feels relatively gutless so a) it's forgiving of mistakes and b) you can ride it at the limit without putting yourself into too much danger. It reaches up to 180 km/h which is fast enough for highway riding.
> carbs
It being carbed means that if you run into problems, you can learn to fix them yourself instead of heading to the mechanic every time.
> seating position
Upright, slightly forward means it's a neutral riding position so you can figure out what you want afterwards. The seat is relatively uncomfortable making literally every other bike after it will feel like heaven on your ass.
> price and availability
Parts and the bikes themselves are cheap and plentiful. If you crash and fuck up one of your fairings it's 40 euros to replace it with original parts. Engine needs little maintenance. Beginner riders are typically not financially independent, so this is a big plus for them.
> suspension
It's a budget suspension factoring into the overall low cost of getting a GS 500. If you want better suspension it's easy to swap. Therefore it gives beginners an opportunity to learn working on suspension while keeping the cost manageable.

Everything you listed except the fuel economy was a negative, followed by an explanation on how that negative is actually a positive if you're a new rider. I mean if you love the bike that's wonderful, I'm happy for you. But saying it's OBjectively instead of SUBjectively the best beginner bike then listing a bunch of negatives that you justify doesn't make it the best for everybody.

Truth be told there is no objectively best beginner bike, or bike for any purpose. It's all about subjective rider preference and personal experiences that shape our interests.
>>
anyone in here ever smoked one and took a ride right afterwards?
How was it?
Is it as dangerous as i imagine it to be?
>>
>>16757119
I guess you don't understand what "objective" means.
Example: If I said "the GS 500 is the best bike" then that would imply it is that FOR ME, and therefore be a subjective statement. However, I listed reasons as to why it is good for beginners, and claimed it was the best beginner bike, a statement which is backed up by the facts I posted. Therefore, it is an objective statement.
I never claimed it was the best bike for everybody, I said it is the best beginner bike.
>Truth be told there is no objectively best beginner bike
This is demonstrably false, and if you actually read my post you would plainly see that. Protip: Beginner riders CAN NOT FORM A SUBJECTIVE OPINION ON THEIR FIRST BIKE because they have nothing to compare it to and lack the skills to ride bikes to the point where they could identify meaningful differences.
