I'm lost /o/
All I want. all I've been dreaming of, is owning a BMW 325i, 330i, etc. The issue is, there's a 2000 323i for sale near me for $4k, but that's it. The thing looks beautiful, but it has a little more than 200k miles and I'm not sure it would last much longer. This is the only 3 series for sale around my area, what do?

so ignore it and wait for one you want. it'll eventually come along.

>4k
>200k miles
nigga don't be a retard
>>16749598
what does this mean :(
>>16749606
it means don't buy it, fuck how dense are you? You'll get 5k outta that engine before you start tossing in more money than its worth

Probably wait, but does this owner have service and maintenance records? Average cost of ownership for a vehicle is around 60 cents a mile including insurance, fuel, etc. If you can get enough life/miles out of the car to beat that, then youre probably okay, for example, if you could get at least 12k mikes out of it before any major repairs, you'll beat that 60 cent per mile average considering $4k for car $~1.5k in gas for 12k miles and whatever your insurance for a about a year is.
mileage usually matters less than a consistent, detailed maintenance history
but fuck, dude, 200k? avoid like the plague
If its been maintained properly (check for this) then vanos repair would be in order by now. Aside from that, electrical gremlins. These cars are pretty solid IF their owners didn't skimp on maintenance.
If he doesn't have mainenance history, avoid.

Buy a 330i, no reason to go for the lower engine models. I don't understand how the 323i is for $4,000, here's a listing close to me that I think is a good deal: https://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/5993336819.html
Don't spend more than $6,000 for a decent mileage E46, unless you're going for a ZHP/

>no reason to go for the lower engine models
Even the smallest engine available for the 3 series is enough for a DD, who needs 0-60(100) under 10 when driving to work?

There's a reason used luxury brands are cheaper than similar Honda's and Toyota's. You're gonna sink a ton of money into fixing electrical components and when you finally get caught up there you're gonna need to rebuild your engine and or tranny because 200k miles. By this point you have your original 4k invested plus another 3k at least just getting it back in running condition. Then of course you're going to go to an empty Kroger parking lot to "hoon it around" because that's what the kids are doing these days and you will total it into the only light pole in the parking lot. Insurance will only give you 3k because that's what the cart is worth and you will crawl back to the warm loving arms of a 3k Civic. Dont be a dipshit OP. Get a 7th gen civic si for the same price and you won't have to stress as much over reliability and your shitty driving skills.

Get a 330 with a manual or don't bother.

I own a very early E46 328i so have had pretty much all the common problems. They are great cars, and very easy to work on for the most part. Your biggest issues are rust, cooling systems, and if it has an automatic gearbox. If it does, they shit themselves if the fluid isn't changed which it rarely is because they were marketed as "sealed for life".
They are great cars, and the 6cyl petrol engines are extremely reliable if you don't cook them. Aside from a cooling system refresh mine has been extremely reliable and never given big issues. Mainly suspension consumables.
I don't know what prices are like where you are, but that seems a LOT for a high mileage 323i. That is a £800 car in the UK if it is in outstanding condition, closer to £500 if average. £2k gets you a mint 328i / 325i and £3k gets you a very nice 330i sport.
>>16749528
woah, where in the world are you that its hard to find a e46?
>>16750576
because the price difference isn't that much and you'll regret not getting the most powerful engine
>>16749528
You can't afford a BMW. I usually hate this meme, but it seems like
>3k civic
Is your only true option here

I'm feeling this; I got a 325xi and it feels slow as hell. Now I'm stuck with it for at least 5 years since I don't want to look like a chump buying and dumping cars.
It doesn't help that I think the cars looks like shit too.
