why is jdm a thing? Why do people import very expensive parts from japan when there are usdm counterparts that are just as good?

The same reason people put Holden badges on their Chevies. Perceived exclusivity, and bragging rights.

I rarely see people who brag about being JDM have any JDM parts.

Because they're not JDM

Thats not true....
How many USDM parts made for japanese cars are actually better than JDM parts?
its kinda the same thing with euro parts as well.
Do you think people in Japan with American muscle cars have better parts for their cars being made over there or America?
exactly.
For the same reason Japanese people import USDM trucks, SUV's and pre-malaise muscle.
>people who call anything made in Japan JDM
Usdm aftermarket: let's take the cheapest and most popular products from Japan, copy them, change them in way to still appeal to the buyers of original product but enough to distinguish ours apart, make them to a much lower quality, and charge more than the cheaper but better quality Japanese part

>mfw a set of spoon front calipers for my car costs 2000$.
>mfw a set of wilwoods with pads, rotors and calipers costs 2100$
A lot of the parts for my car are only available in Japan. I'm building a drift car out of my IS300 and nobody here makes extended LCAs, uppers and knuckles for the IS. I get all my suspension bits from JZX100s in Japan.
chads think it's cool
