In 2015 F1 cars were much faster than LMP1 cars, in 2016 F1 cars got a huge boost in performance, in 2017 they are getting even faster. You're full of shit.

Is there a racing series with no rules except "no weapons or intentional contact" where manufacturers and competitors are free to build a car however they like in the never-ending quest for more speed? This shit just stifles innovation.

They just throw research grants and expensive manufacturing techniques around until they win, except there's thousands of rules preventing interesting new tech from being developed and they have to find ways to milk every last HP out of existing stuff. You should follow motorsports more closely. If you think technological innovations are stifled because of the rues, you are not aware of how creative a design team can be to create loopholes around those rules.

Bssides, there's nothing really stopping a racecar engineers from building the fastest car they can build. They just simply choose to follow a regulations of whatever series they're competing in.
