Everywhere has emissions from ICEs. LA has a unique geography surrounding it that prevents those emissions from dissipating at a reasonable rate. Emissions isn't a major concern for anyone outside of such unique circumstances or environments. If anything, the improvement in LA's air quality over the last half century even with the massive increase in usage of ICEs proves we have reached and surpassed the point we needed to in order to maintain acceptable air quality even in the worst of cases.

Don't know about the laws in other countries for modified cars (except where I lived before and they were nonexistent which was great) but they assrape your insurance in the UK which is already stupidly overpriced and illogical in the first place.
The UK would be fine for cars if only the insurance wasn't a total fucking scam you are forced to buy into by law.

I can't begin to recount to retarded insurance prices for different cars I have or would have paid. They make no sense.

Same in ireland, so many insurers wont insure either old, modified, or jap imported cars. Doesn't really stop anyone, people just don't declare modifications, or register performance cars as lower power models.
>>
>>16728151
Insurance is only expensive for teenagers. I just bought a Civic Type R and it was £450 a year to insure.
>>
>>16728279
Do you get away with not reporting mods? UK insurers require you to even put down removing the back seats as a fucking mod which increases prices (?!) It's all fine so long as you don't claim, but I want to know how much they look for mods if you do.

>>16728303
I'm 22, no accidents/claims, impeccable licence and I can't insure any second hand car for less than £1k. In fact, if the car is anything but brand new, no mods, not imported and less than 1.6l it will go beyond the £1k mark without exception.

I don't fucking get it.
>>
>>16728350
It really starts to drop off when you're over 25, it can also depend on where you live and some cars are just more expensive to insure for reasons. For example a Focus ST would have cost me £800 despite being similar in performance and price.

>>16728350
My insurer won't insure cars with engine mods (cold air intake is considered an engine mod), suspension mods, or exhaust mods. I don't have any experience with it because I've never claimed on a modded car, but I'd imagine they'd just refuse to pay out.

Considering the amount of modded cars here I'd love to know what happens if you try to claim and the inspector reports the mods.

>Focus ST would have cost more despite similarity
Not a surprise considering how illogical the prices seem to be.

>>16728433
That effectively makes modding illegal. That's like saying yeah you can upgrade your computer but actually turning it on and using it will be illegal after you do so. Or yeah it's fine to extend your house but only as long as once you complete the works you never set foot in your home again.

Only coastal shitholes have inspections. In MI you just get your tags in the mail.

Most cops won't even stop you for 5 over if you're white.

You pretty much can't even engage the criminal justice system for a simple moving violation.

All of the laws that vary by state are posted on signs when they are applicable.

Buying new is retarded

Yuros don't even build decent engines because of emissions (no, your 1.5L turbo diesel isn't decent)

If you don't have no fault, after jamal totals your car you are stuck walking to work while your insurance and his insurance go to court and fight over whose fault it was and who has to pay for it.

No you imbecile, my analogy is more akin to "I like women but I won't touch anything under their clothes".
You imply that working on a car will destroy it and render it useless 100% of the time with your analogy.

>autistic enthusiasm
That's gr8 m8, I'm an engineer so my enthusiasm comes naturally. I actually studied and have a career in something I like, which I highly recommend btw.

This bait got pretty obvious here m8

America has stricter laws on safety and shit. That's why you can't sell cheap little hatches without airbags here.

>not allowed to drive old cars

What do you consider an old car.

Plenty of Prolets driving schrott hatchbacks around here from the late 90s and 00s.

Same with the all of 1er BMWs, and old combi E-klasse and 5ers.

>60mph sppedlimits
Youve never been to the US have you?

>autobahns
You're not German either, you're probably a Britbong. Don't try to take credit for our roadways faggot. Plus unless you are outside of the city, there are speedlimits, or baustelle every 150 km.

>Ariel, Caterham
You are a faggot Britbong, talk about some relevant cars people actually can drive everyday and have fun in. Nobody gives a shit about the last vestiges of your country's shit auto manufacturing.

Holy fuck, do Americans even know about the lack of speed limits in the Autobahn?

Portuguese here, they're literally the only American manufacturer that's popular around here. You might very rarely see a Chevy or a Chrysler at best, but Ford is as famous as any European badge.

>What's negative about penalize those who endangers themselves and others?
the assumption that the speed limit is correct in preventing those

here in the US, we have speed traps. what this means is that you will be driving at 45mph, and then you must brake to 30mph, and then accelerate to 45mph. this is dangerous and inefficient. few people like to put up with it. everyone either tailgates, engages in extreme braking and acceleration, or the road can't support the actual trafic density and you get gridlock because cars can't move through fast enough.

and then outside of the cities, we have the exact same speed limits on rural, two-lane highways as we do on divided freeways with 3+ lanes in each direction, and cops the officially say that the left lane is only for short bursts of passing (which is, as you would expect, a clusterfuck when used properly). safe, huh?

the overall view of speed limits here, at least among people with triple digit IQ scores and a healthy lack of blind loyalty to literally everything with a US Gov stamp on it, is that they are set by worried mothers who see big numbers and don't want them anywhere near their children.

maybe in europe your speed limits are set well and your roads designed accordingly. i doubt it, but maybe it's true, at least in one province of the duchy of penishire. but here, when we see speeding tickets we think about borderline retarded safety advocates and greedy police departments.

also when americans say "europe" we actually mean the UK.

How do Americucks feel knowing that "if you go down Fifth Avenue everyone has a Mercedes Benz but if you go to Germany you aren't going to see a single Chevy"?

That's an eloquent citation from your president, by the way. Even he recognizes the supremacy of European cars.

It's almost like import taxes make american cars a really shitty deal in europe, but european car companies have gone as far as lobbying to modify US law and limit grey imports to secure a market for themselves in the US

>because you think current air pollution in LA is fine ?
Considering that air quality is still improving even with increasing ICE usage (and have been for some time), I'd say current laws governing emissions are more than adequate for the foreseeable future, especially if you take into account the older grandfathered in ICEs that will slowly be replaced with significantly cleaner modern ICEs.
Pushing for ridiculous overly strict laws not to slow the worsening of air quality, maintain air quality, or even to improve air quality, but just to speed up the existing improvement for the 1% that choose to live in grossly overpopulated shitholes they already know are polluted does nothing but force manufactures into spending billions on research, significantly increasing cost to consumer with only very small gains. To help combat a small portion of the increased R&D cost, manufacturers move plants out of the country to exploit cheap labor elsewhere. So now everything costs more, and there's fewer jobs available.
