Cheap to buy, cheap and easy to fix.
Not very comfortable but you can upgrade the seats. It won't get great mileage.

These trucks were so common for so long that I can't imagine a time when they weren't around

shit is cheap to maintain.

shit is not cheap to drive at around 11mpg average

mine is comfortable on anything thats not a dirt road because of nice aftermarket seats.

over 300k miles and the timing chain is getting loose, causing a rough idle that smooths out the moment you hit the throttle and suspension is shot.

still hauls heavy loads up and down mountain roads and starts up in cold ass weather.

basically what im saying is old trucks are fucking tanks. hell even dodge trucks from the 80s and early 90s were fairly reliable

I own/have owned several pre-1990 truck from the big 3. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Usually 1/2 ton, small block V8, automatic, 4x4s can be had for around $3500 in daily drivable condition. Once you get into big blocks, manuals and 3/4 and 1 tons the price will increase but personally I would never pay more than $6500 unless it's a rare/low mileage or mint truck.

Your pic is a good choice
>Chevy/GMC C/K (1973-1987)
The best engine options would be the 350 SBC,400 SBC and the 454 BBC. The 350 is the most common of the 3.
Automatic 350TH and 400TH transmissions the most common.

Other good choices are
>Dodge D/W series & Dodge Ram D/W (1972-1980 & 1981-1993)
All V8s are great options for these trucks. They had the 318 LA, 360 LA, 383 B, 400 B, 440 RB. (LAs are small blocks, Bs and RBs are big blocks) These were offered in 1972-1980 with 79 being the last year for big blocks.
1981-1993 saw the 318 LA and 360 LA
1989-1993 saw the 5.9L 12v Cummins diesel
Automatic 727A transmissions are the most common.

>Ford F-Series 6th & 7th gen (1973-1979 &1980-1986)
I'm not really knowledgeable about Fords but these came with the 302 Windsor, 351 Windsor, 400, 460 and 6.9L IH diesel.

I would type more but I'm on my phone. Maybe some other anons could chime in. Remember OP do plenty of research and make sure you inspect a truck very thoroughly before you buy.

Depending on the shape, the price varies. by that I mean what ever need's fixing. THey are cheap though since there are like thousands of old c10 trucks on this planet.

I had an 80s gmc heavy half
easiest vehicle ever to work on as there's so much space in the engine bay to maneuver.
super ez to maintain, guzzles gas tho.
be sure to get 4x4 tho, unless you're a cuck.

100% agree. Do it OP.

blending with its environment

fuarrkkk that's a clean ass truck son.

Only thing giving me second thoughts is how bad they are on gas. I also have pretty much zero experience with cars so id be learning a lot as i go
>>
>>16719627
Holy shit is this yours?

If so, now you inspire me
>>
>>16719226
I second what others said.
>cheap parts
>easy to work on
>mediocre mpgs, at best

Also, cheap insurance.

Being able to haul stuff is useful, even in a city.

I wouldn't even "fix it up a bit". Part of the fun of having an old truck is that it's beat up and kinda shitty.
