>Sleek classics on a dime from the VW / Audi / Porsche trio edition

It's that time again, European citizens! Post your cars, talk about your trips, discuss potential meets, etc. Most of us around here are from the EU but just about everyone from the European geographical zone is invited, including Ruskis and Brexiters.

Keep in mind that this general is still relatively young (the first thread was earlier this week, iirc?) and therefore hasn't gained all that much traction yet, so please be patient since it might take a while for frequent posters to settle in.

>Skyline 1.8 GL for 1.200 euros in Portugal

https://www.olx.pt/anuncio/nissan-skyline-1-8-gl-IDyNusx.html#c531efbc4d

This is probably the only one in the country, should I go for it? The description vaguely claims that "the documentation is in order but the mechanic isn't", which might imply anything from not having passed the latest inspection to not running at all.

Also, on a side note, why the fuck is it so hard to find info on this particular Skyline model, or about any 1980s Skylines in general? I would like to know exactly how rare these are and where in the family they fit in.

okay my bad, I didn't see the first picture in the ad

the car is probably fucked up but if you can work on it, I think it's a nice looking car
>>
>>16699174

I take it you don't know how engine swaps work in Portugal. Like I said above, when you see "the car has no mechanics" it's a way to lure in idiots, no offense, by twisting the words around "the car has no fucking engine".

Now, on paper, swaps here are straight up illegal, even if it's the same engine. What everyone does is swap engines that look like the old ones, they won't bother checking. If they are different, things get interesting.
First you need to provide a fully detailed report of your project to: the car's brand representative, the IMTT (our DMV), and an independent auto engineer. You'll need approval from all 3. And if by some miracle you get the approval, then things get fucked up: if there is a displacement increase, you have to pay the remainder of the tax, AS IF IT WAS A NEW CAR. Most give up at this point, I even personally know someone who did. Was building a Mitsubishi Colt GTI replica out of a 1.3 shell, for the increase to 1.8 he was asked to pay...7500€. Yes, seven thousand five hundred. Then after that, and the swap done, you need to take it to a 200€ extra inspection.

>>16700283
I might move to Spain in the upcoming years but the advertisement will eventually be gone since then.

My uncle has one, they still hold up pretty well for commuting. Might be worth getting one in good condition for ~1k.

Yup, but it's pretty good regardless. The European version is even blessed with not having 1/3rd of the HP cut down like the American one.
>>
>>16700320

Spain isn't that much better honestly. Most of our laws are copied from them, such as the fuckretarded one that you need written authorization from the manufacturer if you want another tyre size in your car. Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but afaik we're the only 2 countries in the world that do this.

>>16700368
My parents have resident status in Spain and they say that car laws over there are far less restrictive. At the very least car prices are much cheaper, I've been looking for a Porsche 944 lately and, while you can easily find a decent one for less than 5k over there, it's basically impossible to get a properly maintained one for less than 10k in Portugal. Hopefully buying a car in Spain and driving it in Portugal while having Spanish residence doesn't bother the cops too much, otherwise I'll scream for MUH SCHENGEN AGREEMENT when bothered.

So yeah, fuck our countries but fuck mine in particular.
>>
>>16700320

Also, desu you only get the tax if the displacement increases. Will still be close to 1k€ just to legalize though.
You could also check which engine it had, then put one visually identical. As I've said, they will not check the block's serial number, and as long as it doesn't go ham on emissions you're gucci. I'm planning that on my Opel, the C14SE engine it has needs a rebuild, but I might take the chance to swap in a C16SE, it's literally the same engine with a different bore and travel.

As this age any car will have parts that need some tlc. Rust that needs welded plates, engine wear, etc. It's best to take care of it and maintain now than let it develop into a mess. Pic related, this was on a 1990 BX GTi.

>>

What's wrong with diesel?

Also, can you be cared to browse the site to find me some decent cars, since I have no knowledge on this.
>>
>>16712402
Don't know what your plans are or what you're looking for exactly, but here are a couple of interesting ads I saw on a quick skim through:

>'95 Toyota Celica
http://www.avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=11806916&display=Toyota%20Celica%201.8%20ST-i
It's a Toyota and it'll run forever. Looks like a bit of rust on the rear wheel well though.

>'97 Honda Prelude
http://www.avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=10299662&display=Honda%20Prelude%202.0i
Similar to the Celica, will run forever with basic maintenance. Pics don't really show any rust and interior looks in alright shape, but it has a bit of a scuff on the front bumper. Nice color though.

'>'92 Mazda Xedos 6
http://www.avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=11848486&display=Mazda%20Xedos%206%202.0%20V6
Picked because I have a hard-on for any Mazda with a K-series V6. Leather interior looks very comfy.

>'95 Mercedes-Benz C220
http://www.avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=11836986&display=Mercedes-Benz%20C-Razred%20C%20220%20Elegance
No slav list would be complete without an old German luxury car. Normally people would tell you to stay away from this kind of thing, but since most old German luxury cars end up in eastern Europe anyway I doubt parts would be very expensive and/or rare. Also RWD for mad skidz.

>'98 Saab 9-3
http://www.avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=11119676&display=Saab%209-3%202.0%20HITRI%20KREDIT%20BREZ%20POLOGA%20DO...
The kings of budget turbo cars in Europe. Dead brand, but based on an Opel platform and with a very active and friendly community determined to keep as many of them on the road for as long as possible. Highly tuneable, but watch out for torque steer.

And finally, obligatory, for maximum cheap and memery:
>2000 Renault Twingo
http://www.avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=11774708&display=Renault%20Twingo%20Pack
The first revamped model year with improved structural rigidity and D7F engine. Simple, reliable, cute and quite possibly the cheapest option if you want a car in Europe. In plushie blue, no less.
>>
>>16712476
Keep in mind I don't speak slav, so I can't comment on anything besides the pictures and engine specs.
>>
>>16712476
Saab 9-3 is the shit, anon should totally consider it. The Prelude is also a good idea.

Please help me out with this dilemma, my fellow Euronegroes. Just got my license and, while a Porsche 944 is my current stretch goal car, they're absurdly expensive in my country and in the meantime I've been looking for something in the range of ~1500€ and below that's cheap but nonetheless fun to drive and compatible with my snowflake taste. As such, should I go for a Golf Mk2 or a Honda CR-X?

On one hand I have a ton of appraisal for the Mk2,
>genuinely classic design, easily the most recognizable VW besides the Beetle
>incredibly fun to drive, still holds up brilliantly more than three decades later
>close to hundreds of them available in all sorts of configurations and colors

but at the same time playing a lot of GTA always made me love the CR-X
>sleek af design
>muh sports performance
>Honda quality, reliable and built to last for a lifetime

So I'm really conflicted on this, which of two is the best retro classic compact on a budget? pls halp
>>
>>16714849
which cunt?
>>
>>16714849
I hope by mk2 you mean golf gti.

You can look into importing cars from germany or something. You don't have to be stuck in your own domestic.

If you like MK2, look at peugeot 205 as well. They're just as good as mk1 gti.

I was also obsessed with 944, but if you can, avoid it (unless you're rich and need a project car to SINK your money into)

I'd go for honda cr-x. I think it would be abetter first gar, you'd spend less time under it. As you said yourself: You love it.
Be aware that both are FF.
>>
>>16714895
>You can look into importing cars from germany or something. You don't have to be stuck in your own domestic.
Not in Portugal, sadly. Importing a car even from the EU will be taxed to cover any market price differences, as insulting and illegal as it might sound. If that was an option then I would have just bought a 944 from Spain for ~4500€ instead of looking for a compact while I can't afford one in my own country. And yeah, I meant the GTI in particular, although I guess there are probably some other decent Mk2 variants that are also enjoyable?

Either way, I guess CR-X is the best choice, thx anon. Hopefully I won't get bullied by my sophisticated college mates for driving a ricer-tier car, but still.

what do you guys think about the r18 turbo ?
>>
>>16714921

Don't forget that each year you'll pay taxes based on the registration year in Portugal, so if you buy and register an import now, youd pay taxes as if it was a new car.

Also, forget golf gti's and cr-x's for 1500. You know our market, even the ones double that price will be beat to shit.

I think what you are looking for is a super mini
they are like the Austin mini but weigh about 200 kg more and come with 300 to 700 extra cc of engine

here are some of the neat ones
but they are hard to find in any decent state let alone cheep

peugeot 205 GTi 1.6
vauxhall nova GSi
Citroen ax sport
peugeot 106 rallye
fiat 127 sport
Renault Clio Williams

as for look I do not know about Japan style houses
but you want a camback styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro or Marcello Gandini, pininfarina is also an option

>>
>>16715026
I've found some decent CR-Xs on that price range. GTIs are a little harder to come across but they're still possible. Either way, I don't mind putting in 500-1000 more euros just to get a significantly less banged up one.´

By the way, since you understand Poortugal laws, can you answer if >>16700396 would get me in trouble?

Oh it's you, I'm still the same tuga you've been replying to.

If memory serves me right, you can only drive it if:

>the car is in your name, or a company you work for
>your declared main residence is on Spain
>declare and pay your taxes in Spain
>have a residence in Portugal that isn't your main one

News at 11. Look at TÜV approved parts, for instance. In most countries, if they have their homologation, they're fair game, but over here some fatfuck in the parliament decided the TÜV is worthless in our country

Thanks for the picks, I've never really considered looking more into cars.
Previous cars include
Citroen ZX, which was sold shortly after as it was my first car, and fuel consumption was high
Opel astra caravan, which I sold to my brother
Citroen Evasion, which was a terrible experience to me, something kept breaking all the time
Volkswagen transporter t4, which I own now and it's pretty comfy tier, the color is an ambulance yellow (it was an ambulance before I got it), the parts are cheap as fuck, and it has 600kkm with the same engine

I'm mostly considering a new car because the VW is just too big, even though you can haul lots of stuff with it. It's also very loud when driving on the highway.

Neat and surprisingly durable sedan, but not the best 1980s Renault.

Anyone else thinks that, even with the rough competition from the Golf GTI and the Peugeot 205, pic related is still the greatest compact car ever made? It looks so good and oh my, it's such a furious little machine for rally driving.
