Gear driven cams are added weight and fucked valvetrain harmonics because honda couldn't figure out how to make a reliable chain-timed system on a V4 for about a decade

Need to do a front and rear CBR1000RR SP fork and shock swap on it then have the forks and shocks worked over and resprung by racetech for it to be any good.

This is bare minimum before its even rideable in the twisties.

>>
>>16697297
the fuck is that?
>>
>>16697379
So what do you mean by "rideable?" I've seen footage of guys flying through twisties just fine, and track stuff too, with just the stock Interceptor. You have to remember, I've been dragging pegs through twisties for 10 years. My pegs were so worn down, they were like tanto blade tips on the ends. And now that I've been riding this Interceptor some, I'm taking turns literally twice as fast as I EVER could before. I think you guys might be spoiled by higher end sport bikes. Like when the wifi goes out and the millennials just can't even.

all those guys you saw either have Ohlins fork swaps or Ohlins internals in their forks.

Not rideable otherwise.
>>
>>16697398
I always wanted a "sportier" bike. I had a bagger, got bored with it. Don't get me wrong, it was a great bike. I just don't get the time anymore to do long distance rides, so I don't really need an all out bagger.
>>
to anybody who saw my post about rotating the engine on my buell, i finally got the new gaskets in and bolted it back together.

question though, my valve stem wasn't exactly lined up with my rocker arm when i went to put the rocker boxes back on.

we put pressure on it with the rocker barely contacting the valve stem, and pushed it into alignment (heard a metallic noise as we did).

i ran the bike out for 15 minutes around town, and it seems fine. am i fine or did i fuck up?

I still think it's more than capable enough for what i need. I've never even been to the track before, and have no desire to. Also, I live down in TX where there's not much for twisties anyways. I just ride a little more aggressive than the average biker down here, besides the damn Bandidos that run around here. I was wondering if I could continue to safely throw the bike around as harder or harder than I have been on my Sportster.

be prepared to spend money on the following
>fork rebuild, new seals and oil, may as well put emulators in while you're at it
>brakes, new lines, fluid, and pads front and rear. Caliper and mastercylinder rebuilds possibly necessary as well.
>Inspect rotors and replace as necessary
>oil change and filter
>take steering head apart and check bearings, replace and lube as necessary
>clutch inspection, replace as necessary
>new actuation cables and adjusting levers
>disassemble swingarm and relube all bearing points for rear suspension, replace bearings as needed
>new tires, check wheels for runout and roundness while you're at it.
>check wheel bearings, replace as necessary
>inspect chain and sprockets, replace all as necessary. I would replace anyway
>ensure proper sprocket alignment
>inspect cush drive and replace as necessary

That's about it. All of that is really something you should do on any used bike you buy, especially if it's older than 10 years.

Obviously I'm bottom heavy (large legs, spinal erectors, hamstrings, etc) and have big shoulders, and traps, i.e. the body of someone that deadlifts and squats a lot. That's pretty much the complete opposite of people after 'aesthetics'.

I also sprint and to plyo. This is stark contrast to the "big shoulders, big back, big chest, small legs small waist" line of thinking of people going after aesthetics. I also hover right around 12-15% bodyfat and dont try to cut any lighter than that as someone would who's chasing a beach body.

Hey CJ watcha getting?
>>
Without looking at the bikes, which would you assume to be in better shape?
both ninja 300's:
1) a 2003 with 3k miles
or
2) a 2015 with 15k miles

I'm trying to acquire my first bike and I'm trying to figure out which bikes are actually worth looking at (craigslist).

they're not necessary for most track riding even depending on your level and bike obviously, more relaxed geometry needs them less.

They're designed to mitigate head shake from accelerating out of corners which most riders just don't ride hard enough to require.

I've never once thought I needed one when riding track on my bike.

Fa Goots,

I'm gonna taking a basic rider course class and im in the market for a bike. I was thinking a 883 harley sportster but after reading how much of a edgy douche someone could look riding one I've been thinking of a sports bike. I read the sticky cause im not an enormous faggot and the it recommended to get a smaller bike. But I have no clue what to get. My courses are in May so I have plenty of time to think about what bike I want to get. Any suggestions and things I need to look-out for when I'm searching for a bike?

TLDR; babby's first bike. What should I get?

883 is fine, but if you are getting your first bike and want a cruiser, you are better off getting a used Honda Shadow VT750. A lot cheaper to buy and maintain, better mileage and you won't feel like a dick for laying it down if you do so.

The only edgy douches are people who give a shit about what others ride. Get whatever you like. The 883 is a "big" bike in that it's kinda heavy and has a lot of cc's, but isn't THAT fast and is decently easy to handle given its low center of gravity (don't confuse that with good handling, though).

Anything that you can put your feet down on, handle the weight of, and feel confident with the controls of, that doesn't have so much power that you'll end up in a tree if you get a little happy with the throttle (which is easy on a fast bike).
>>

Virginia has a lot of tracks, georgia has a lot of tracks, but that doesn't make a state good for riding.
>shit drivers
true. Cali drivers are pretty good, but most back roads have no drivers
>hipster faggots everywhere
only in portland, the rest of oregon is farm country with killer cascade mountain ranges, literally the same coastal highway as california, cheaper gasoline, better quality road surface (not nearly as many cracks and shit asphalt) and the fact that the state has an extremely low population density compared to california makes it killer for riding.

I do miss it. California is great, I miss the bay area a bit, but oregon was riding nirvana.

I mean, I can believe that there are states like that--Illinois is pretty much like that--but Kentucky at least has hills and that usually means twisty roads, yes?

60's and 70's styled bikes are tryhard bullshit trying to capitalize on the hipster infested """cafe racer""" and """scrambler""" """craze""".

A bike that reminds of the 80's harkens back to the formative years of the modern sportbike, where chassis geometry, power, and ergonomics were just starting to transition from the UJM standard to what is ideal for outright performance, and bikes started to care about aerodynamics.

Hipsters don't like 80's sportbikes thus they aren't hipster trash.

New thread when?

Anyone know what happened to the motorcycle development cycle of the late 90's and 00's?

When I first got into motorcycles it seems like each Japanese manufacturer had a new model coming out every 4 years and a refresh of that model every 2 years with a bit more power, a bit less weight, etc. in between the complete redesigns.

But it seems like after 2008-2010 or so they stopped this and just stuck with a single design and only did minor updates over the years, some sticking with a single original design for 10 years (see R6).

It also seems like they are reusing parts a lot more. The CB1000R uses the same motor from the 2007ish CBR1000R. The GSXS1000 uses the same motor from the 2005ish GSXR1000R. Yamaha sold a bike that is essentially a 2002 R6 as the R6S for years along side the latest R6. Yamaha's basic engine architecture hasn't significantly changed since the first R1 in the late 90's (most significant is going from 5 valve to 4 valve heads and going crossplane crank with the last two generations of R1), it even originated in the 80's. And even all R6 motors since have been derived from it. The CBR1000RR has just now seen it's first major redesign since 208, and even then it's not a full redesign, the bike is still based largely on the 2008 bike.

It seems like manufacturers have pretty much given up on the 2 year update-4 year ground up redesign, bleeding edge development cycle where they constantly tried to one-up each other.

Now we get the same bikes year after year with slight changes to output, plastics/headlight, some suspension tweaks, etc. and the very occasional (but not complete) redesign (see 2015 R1, 2017 CBR1000RR)
It's like they forgot what "ground up" development is and got lazy.

Would this really cause institutionalized motorcycle development to screech to a halt for almost 10 years now?

I can see a slowdown in revenue after 2008 until 2010 or so when people started buying shit again but that should have, at worst, slowed development cycles by two years. On top of that motorcycles take years to develop so you'd think they would already have something in the pipe despite the slowdown.

Instead we've had 10 years of mum development on the sportbike front spare the euros introducing electronics and the Japs trying to play incrementalized catchup
