They are fantastic cars
Anything from the 80s worth driving and buying as already shoot up in value.
Just suck it up and buy a Fiesta ST

There weren't any good sports cars im the 80s. But you can buy something cool like an IROC-Z for not much money and make it good, easily. Rebuild the engine, trans and suspension.

Don't start that again
If you actually wanna go fast, the C4 corvette from 85 and up is probably your best compromise. Out handles m3's in autocross, decently reliable and often boomer owned so garage kept with low mileage. People will laugh at your leaf springs and tell you that GM can't compete while referring you to GTR laptimes.

>slower than 3000gt
corvette is ass

3kgt's weren't slow by any means. I'd say get one of those but they don't fucking work for more than a month at a time according to their owners.

No car produced in 89 was an 80s car, 89 marked the beginning of 90s era sports cars.
Once 2020 comes around all 80s sports cars will be considered classics and there value will begin to climb. So get one now as they start climbing up from Bottom dollar.
Only 80s sports cars worth getting for simplicity would be a Mustang or Camaro, those have parts still available and they are easy to work on. Import classics are a pita but imo much cooler. There will be no good 80s sports car. There is no go to answer as they are all falling apart and rusting as we speak, you have to see which one you like enough to deal with its shit.
