No because I will NEVER say Taynger immediately preceded or succeeded by the word "Danger".

Also yes. I avoid general Ford meet-ups because of those "proud" F-150 owners and the Ranger stancefags. The last time I went, there was this 400 lb man with build-in hydraulics in his "Danger Ranger".

God I feel so unclean after typing that.

Duratrac vs KO2? Mostly for loose surfaces, forrest trails. I wanted to try rock climbing as I live near the rocky mountains.
>>
Do I just regrind/replace the crank on my 454 burbameme or do I bore it out and get a stroker crank for 496?
I have the extra spendin' cash, but I don't know if I can handle that 4 MPG life. It's already on 35s with 4.10 gears, has some aftermarket exhaust from banks, can't remember the specifics.
Already planning on some higher flow intake, upgrade the injectors, plugs/wires/cap and rotor, a programmer of some sort

m8 your going to need to fill up every time you see a gas station with that setup

>I have the extra spendin' cash

>>
>>16692325
Duratrac walls have reported issues. If you get them, make sure they're the D-walls that are around $20-$30 each more per tyre. Not really that good for rock climbing as a result
KO2s are good but loud and not as good on gas. I would've gone Coopers if that's the case.

But if you're doing loose surface and not too much mudding, you should honestly be fine with any of those three.

I've started to get into heavy dragging with mine like pulling 14ft logs to our mill from the back pasture, and I'm on my 3rd acuator as the first 2 burned and now this 3rd one just wants to be slip city.

Looking at Nissan Frontiers, 4.0 v6 4x4. Are they any good for an aspiring offroader? Honestly, I'm moving from Florida to Kansas sometime this year, and I'll really only ever take it through dirt roads and up to the lake every so often, maybe some trails if there are any decent ones.

Going to buy new and probably end up keeping this thing forever/as long as possible. Getting the crew cab because I'll probably be having a kid in the next few years once the gf and I are settled.

Anyone have any experience with them? Good or bad.

what the fuck is an ecoboost?
The newer amg v8 has an eco mode that turns off 4 cylinders in some scenarios and shuts off the engine when the vehicle is immobile. A bullshit contrivance that was implemented so americans could avoid the gas guzzler tax.

>>
>>16695276
I had one, they are awesome in slippery shit, I don't know how people think that having more traction in snow and ice is a bad thing. Most of the time you hit ice on the road it is either on one side or the other so the dry side tire gets traction and pushes you threw with no issues. Plus they are quiet and only make the tires chirp when you goose it in a dry turn.
>>
>>16695335
The only people who claim that lockers are dangerous are bus riding faggots who've never driven a real 4wd vehicle parroting what they read online from some asshat who tried one once with bald tires.

The locker is solely dependant on having good tires for the conditions. I've had lockers in 3 different vehicles, two 4wds and one 2wd. Love it in all of them. Plus they make snow donut time much easier... Ha

Agreed. All lockers do the same thing: lock the differential. The only differences are which gears they fit with, how they actuate, and how sturdy they are. A good set of tires and 4wd (of which I have neither) make just as much of a difference as to how your truck handles.

pick one
on top of that driving a bronco is like driving a brick through the road

just buy a shitbox beater for mpgs and use the bronco for trails.

Improving mpg on those trucks is going to cost a lot of money and if you can't do the work yourself forget about it.

Is your truck efi or carb
what trans do you have
current tire type and size

again your best bet will be to do an tune up on the truck and live with the shit mpg.
If you only want 16mpg just get the truck running as best as it can and hope for the best.
you will be spending a ton on mods to improve mpgs it wont make sense money wise anymore

well not much you can do, make sure the truck is running smoothly and deal with the shit mpg.

Again find out your axle ratios

have you considered smaller highway tires?
how aggressive is your tread on your current tires?

you can keep 2 sets of tires and rims, not ideal but it's doable.

best alternative is buying a 1k-2k shitbox that gets gud mpgs

Tons of people have done it so there's write-ups all over. Also I'm helping a friend do the exact same swap on their truck

>abandon the Taco
Nah

>>16697104
I love my Taco like it's a member of the family. As I kinda vaguely stated above it's actually relatively straightforward.

The prerunner is basically an incomplete 4x4 with all the necessary crossmembers and mounting points for a t-case, front diff, drive shafts, and wiring harness. Probably the hardest part would be swapping the spindles, but honestly I'm not too worried about that.

No doubt it'll be a big project, but I love wrenching and I love my truck, so I'm excited to do it one of these days!
>>
>>16697472
I'm very aware, I own an 04 Prerunner and I worked at a Toyota dealership when they were the only gen out and worked on hundreds of them. It's not worth it, just buy another silver 1st gen that has 4wd. I say this as someone with all the resources and knowledge to do it easily.

As delusional as I must look to you, this is something I'd like to do.

For me it's either convert to 4x4 or stay Prerunner because honestly I can't imagine having anything but this particular Tacoma. I may be shooting myself in the foot, but that's just how it is, I guess.

the cat is gone, but the po did a shit job of the patch pipe which is probably just as restrictive.
i ganked the smog pump off and pinched the manifold injection tube down till i can get a blank off plate, i think he ditched the o2 sensor too so i have to see if the harness still has the plug on it somewhere.
if i free it up im not sure how the speed density efi will handle any significant airflow changes.

So I bought an MR2 and want to make it offroad worthy for shits and fun.

Aside from picking up a better light bar and attaching it to the roof, what else other than suspension should I pick up for it?

A short throw shifter? A roller pedal? I'm being completely serious.

Off-roading is almost entirely about suspension. Long-travel independent suspension since it'd only be good for Prerunning, I'd also suggest undercarriage armor (especially a good front skidplate) and really meaty, heavily-traded offroad tires

Lowkey the only problem I see is strengthening the suspension, aside from that I think it'd be dope.

You are wrong. Automatic is better for most offroad uses. Easier to hold position, no clutch to fuck with or burn out, and if you are going fast, it will be more durable and less likely to break from driveline shocks.

The advantages of manuals you listed are really only advantages if you drive a piece of shit that breaks down all the time, also it sounds like you don't realize you can downshift in an automatic too

what?

what does this have anything to do with off roading? and besides, a parking pawl can shear. all car manufactures recommend setting a parking brake before putting a vehicle in park, so there's no stress on the parking pawl.

the wheels currently on it are 20x9 +18 with 35x12.50s. stock wheels for reference were 20x8.5 +44 and 275/55. just going to this setup required a fair amount of hacking the front valance and the back side of the stock flare as well as the metal behind it. on flat ground I can turn just fine, and with the wheel straight I can flex well enough for stock struts and a leveling kit. but the fenders are just too narrow to stuff anything wider than a 13.50 underneath it and still be able to turn. so all of the people running 24x14s and 40x15.50s have their trucks lifted to the point that the tires aren't really even in the well, or they went with Fiberwerx fenders which I would rather not do.
