Hey /o/,
where are the motorcycle riders at?
Is a CBR300R a good beginner bike?
I've ridden dirtbikes for 3-4 years up to a 4-stroke 230cc, and was instructed NOT to get a 600cc street bike as my first motorcycle.
Any other opinions?

motorcycles are dangerous
if youre going to take a chance on dying you might as well get a 600 so you can have performance better than the average car
but not starting with a 600 gives me something to look forward to, then 1000 after that..

its called buyers regret m8. you will be sorely disappointed with a 300cc sportsbike. you already have experience on a bike just get a 600+.

this
that being said kawas 650 are pretty tame untill you get it on up there
Look at a middleweight.
Quicker than a 250/300 while more forgiving than a 600 Supersport. Supersports have twitchy throttles, strong brakes, easy to break fairings. If you already have dirt experience you at least know what it's feel like to lose traction and still stay on the bike, so you'll be ahead most. On any of those bikes the rider will be the bigger limiting factor than anything else. I'm a fan of the SV650 and 690 Duke, but check out what bet fits you.
Suzuki SV650 or V-Strom 650
Kawasaki Ninja 650R/ER6n/Versys 650
KTM 690 Duke
Ducati Monster 696/796
Yamaha FZ6R/FZ-07
Honda Hornet 600

Do you mean the KTM Duke 390?
Or do they have a 690 as well?
any i'm really only into sport bikes, no cruisers for me unless i somehow find one that i like the aesthetics of
Do NOT get a 300cc or less bike. You will regret it a month after you get it. Whoever told you not to get a middleweight is an idiot. There's no advantage to learning on a girly bike as opposed to a 600.
If a 600 scares you, learn on a friend's UJM or rent a 250, but buying a lightweight will make you crazy after a month when you know how to ride. They also get 0 respect on the street.

Duke 690, 64hp/320lb bike. A sportbike version of the 690 Supermoto/Enduro (different cams and gearing for better top-end)
All are standards (naked), except for the Versys/V-Strom which are sport-touring/adventure bikes, and the FZ6R/SV650S which have fully faired versions.

>respect on the street
People actually care about this shit?
>>16680609
not me really, I just care about practicality.
I guess most of these people don't recommend i start on a bike as small as a 300, which makes sense. I guess I can get used to the power of a 600 pretty fast

from what you know of being a person that lives on earth, does this really surprise you?
>>16680629
I wouldn't know I have a Grom.

Just remember the difference between a 300 (30hp) and a 600 (110hp) is 80hp.
Hence why its smarter to listen to >>16680466
and go for something in between with 50-80hp.
Test ride a few bikes and buy whatever you feel like you're ready for.
I would recommend starting on something like a ninja 300, ktm 390, cbr500, or sv650.

Get a neutered 650, ala Ninja 650/SV650 etc.
Your first bike isn't your last so plan to get a 600 I'm a year or two once you actually have some idea of what you're doing and what you want out of a bike.
