Just a generic tip for Subaru purchases, they have crazy expensive services at 100,000 and 200,000 k's, as in the order of $1500-$2000...and that's assuming everything is up to date.

So be extremely wary and diligent in checking the service history of any Subaru with k's above 200,000k's and factor in that extra 2k for buying one with k's just under.

Also if it's a turbo model with those sort of k's chances are it's been somewhat thrashed and a gearbox rebuild and clutch replacement is on the cards.

Well to be fair they all had fucked trans when i got them (all had tow bars + boomer towing and the R33 GTST which had a retard ruin all the syncros before i got it with only 140k and needed clutch work as well)

The calais trans issues with the T56 are down to just the shifter shitting itself, most of them went away when i tightened the old shiftier up while i wait for this short shifter.

Jeeps actual trans is fine (AW4) its just the Transfercase that shat itself (somehow water got in before i got it and it wouldnt hold fluids so it ceased)

You'll be better off looking for a Nissan S12/Gazelle, Mitsubishi Starion or Toyota Celica Supra.

Even then, clean examples are becoming pretty costly.

If all you care about is the driving experience and not the aesthetics a Toyota KE70 with a bit of work is dynamically pretty identical to an AE86, but it's pretty fucking ordinary looking.

In all honesty i'd say spend the money, pay the weeb tax, buy a clean well sorted AE86, drive it for a year, get it out of your system and sell it. It's going to do nothing but appreciate in value so as long as you can actually afford to buy it, it's really not going to cost you anything other than regular maintenance/running costs.

Just change the oil and coolant when necessary and it'll keep on trucking along just fine.

They have a decent amount of grunt for a car their age, plenty of torque with the auto trans and enough power to pull when you need it to.

The main issues tend to be the rocker cover gaskets leaking, coil failure, power steering pump leaks, and general wear and tear for a car of that age/mileage.

At 309k kms though, you'd want to make sure the timing belt has been done recently, otherwise you're due for that and it's a bit of a cunt to do.
