Is it a good idea to wire a siren into your car; but only using it for extremely dire emergencies such as rushing an injured dying friend to the hospital?

Think of it being similar as keeping a fire extinguisher or a first-aid kit; having it and hoping you won't have to use it. I know that impersonating emergency response is a crime; but if the siren was used in an attempt to save a life, can the charges be dropped or reduced?
>>
No. Maybe carry one of those portable defribulator machines it's probably gonna be a lot more help in an emergency
>>
>implying half of /o/ wouldnt abuse this shit constantly to get through traffic

This is why we cant have this

But think about how cool it must be to barrel down the freeway at full speed, cars rushing to get out of your way, with your gf's sexy dying moans partially drowned out by the siren going WEEEEEOOOOOWEEEEEEOOOOOOOOWEEEEEOOOOOWEEEEEEOOOOOOOO
>>
If you want 4 points on your license then go ahead. I have a set of lights I bought to have fun with my friends.
>>
>>16674976
Doubt the siren would help much, people probably wouldn't realize your car is where the noise is coming from. The best you can do is putting your hazard lights on.

Also, I once had to drive myself to the hospital for an emergency. Although I made it okay, in hindsight calling for an ambulance would have been a much more intelligent decision. If it's not an emergency, drive there and do it safely. If it is an emergency, take the ambulance.
>>
>>16675056
Just discreetly wire in some in some blue and red led wigwag strobe lights and honk repeatedly.

Take into account the local emergency response time. The lights and sirens are only for desperate times when you absolutely can't afford to wait.
>>
>>16675084
>Take into account the local emergency response time
Unless you're starting from right next to the hospital, they can probably get to you faster. Also, an ambulance ride isn't just transportation. They can start helping you right away, and you get into the ER faster than if you walk in the front door.
>>
No, it's not a good idea.
>>
>>16675121
Unless you live in a shitty country with underfunded hospitals using second-hand vans as "ambulances."
>>
>>16675150
If you live in the third world no one will care about you abusing emergency sirens for private matters in the first place.
>>
>>16675121
T. I live in the inner city
>>
>>16675121
The ambulance has to get to you first though, then travel back to the hospital. That's two trips of fighting through traffic.

I guess it depends on the situation. Sirens can you help if you live miles away from the nearest clinic.

Plus I'm getting my paramedic licence soon, my car is already an ambulance with all the medical shit i'm stocking up in it. It would be risky to drive while monitoring the patient though.
>>
>>16675174
No, small town in PA.

>>16675188
>A few mini strobes in my grills and windows
>with a siren system
>would be sick to be able to help out.
It's good to be prepared to help in the event of an emergency, but the lights and sirens will definitely get you a ticket at least. You're impersonating an officer, no matter how good your intentions may be.

And that applies to the rest of this thread, it's a really bad idea.
>>
>>16675215
How about OP's last question:

Will the charges of impersonating emergency services be dropped or reduced if the sirens are used in a legitimate attempt to save a life? Most people would rather get a ticket than let someone die.
>>
Just put an early 90s Cadillac horn in your car.

Scares the shit out of people when they cut me off.
>>
>>16674976
You ever open your kitchen cabinet to grab a trash bag or a sponge and see your fire extinguisher and think
>I bet that could spin me around in a desk chair really fast if I just pulled the pin...
Now wire that temptation into the dash of the 5 ton metal block you maneuver through the street everyday and wait till your resolve is gone.

My mom's got cancer and I have a dash mounted emergency light (blue and white, used for only volunteers here but whatever I use it for car shows).

It helped me get through rush hour traffic to get her to the hospital as her kidneys were failing. What would've taken 40 minutes took 10.

As I said I use it for car shows, but thankfully I left it on the dash after the season was over. I'll keep one forever, I don't give a fuck.

Don't use the colors your police department uses (some states share with volunteer FF's and whatever).
>>
>>16675340
Thanks for the advice regarding the lights. But how about sirens?
>>
>>16675356
Sirens aren't legal either, but lights draw more attention typically. Siren's you'll need room for the control box, speaker, and you'll have to wire it. You could get a system with a built in PA system to fuck around and have some fun though.

Honestly, the lights are more beneficial, and draw way more attention at shows and stuff.
>>
>>16675245
pls answer
>>
>>16675380
Why not go balls deep and wire in a siren along the lights while you're at it.
>>
>>16675380
Can't you put those yellow caution beacons on the top of your car?
>>
>>16675560
Check state laws, some may not care, some may have them saved for hazard vehicles. You can use any in private, but no one's moving over for yellow lights.

>>16675557
Cause it costs a few grand

A window light works pretty damn good
>>
Story time

>1990s
>Family business purchased an Econoline 350 at auction from some huge corporation
>It was a hazmat van that had been used on private property
>Full red/blue/yellow light bar with side lights, door spotlights, red grille lights, sirens/PA/CB
>Light bar was kept covered for public road use
>Kept getting pulled over and ticketed anyway
>Light bar and grille lights were eventually removed, too much hassle
>Audio system remained intact

>One day, family riding along on the freeway in this beast of a van, Dad driving
>Some asshat cuts him off
>Siren controls are above the driver's seat
>System has a selector switch with a few "continuous" sirens that will stay on
>But there's also a two-way rocker switch with an air horn on one side, and a "manual siren" on the other
>These two only sound for as long as the rocker is pressed
>Dad reaches up to blast the air horn at the fucker
>Not looking due to its location, he presses the wrong side of the rocker switch
>Siren blares
>Asshat freaks out, pulls out of our lane and gets off the freeway
>We all laugh

But yeah, don't fuck with emergency equipment, cops will find any excuse to cite for it and they'll fucking rape you if the catch you actually using it on public roads.
>>
No

When you engage that siren people will be looking for a vehicle with blinking lights, becoming condused when they dont find one. Confused traffic is dangerous traffic

Also; you are not trained as an emergency driver
>>
>>16675196
In Australia, at least, we have more ambulance stations between hospitals, to help out in more regional areas.

I'd imagine it'd be the same in any first world country.
>>
>>16675968
So I guess having sirens and lights in your car is only practical in shitty countries.
>>
>>16675941
Strobe lights behind the window and grille.
>>
>>16674976
I wouldn't.

The police here don't think that's OK. They pull volunteer firemen over CONSTANTLY for having a 2ft light bar or any type of flashing lights or siren, And they are going to emergencies too.

Best bet is just to haul ass to the hospital and let the police chase you, People will get out of the way and chances are once you get to the hospital and the police sort things out, They will release you.

Unless your in emergency services there's no need for you to have lights and sirens in your car. If you get caught (which you will, police know what calls are going on in their town) then I hope you get the max punishment. My friend did this shit before he got his permit (we're emts) and his car got impounded for improper use and no permit.
Don't be retarded. If you wanna play with sirens and actually be useful, join your local first aid squad or fire department.
>>
>>16675056
This.
And they treat you while you are in the ambulance. They don't just leave you laying there until you arrive at the hospital...

My main question is, can you appeal for the charges to be dropped or reduced if the sirens are used in a legitimate medical emergency. I don't intend to play with them, they'll sit in my car hoping I'll never have to use them.
>>
>>16674976
how about, if you've got a little sister that's bleeding out, you call a fucking ambulance? putting lights and/or sirens on your Accord is impersonating a law enforcement officer and that's a big offense. and they won't care what your reasoning is because that's what 911 is for.
>>
>>16675545
No. Because they were installed prior to said emergency.

Would fraud charges be dropped or reduced because you gave the money you stole to charity?

Same concept.
>>
>>16675321
I keep forgetting about these. The last dealership I worked at had a truck that had these installed.

My current dealership doesnt.

I should fix that.
>>
>>16678653
No you can't apply for shit like that.

Call an ambulance, you'll always be treated faster and usually get to the hospital faster too, and when you get to the hospital they'll be expecting you. There's literally no reason not to call an ambulance. Even if you're in the sticks hours away from anywhere, air ambos will get to you long before you could have gotten to the hospital.

>>
>>16674995
Fucking kek, did anything happen to them?
>>
>>16680264
Unless you do not want to wait for said ambulance to be dispatched to you which can take several minutes which the person may or may not have.
>>
Fire appliance driver here

Absolutely not. People don't see our bright red lorry with flashing lights and sirens so they definitely won't see your civic with an eBay strobe light on roof.

Also its not about driving fast, it's just keeping a higher average speed and using lots of forward observations
>>
>>16682781
>thinking improvised emergency driving is better than learning first aid

Or were you also planning on purchasing a load of restricted paramedic drugs or monitoring equipment as well?
>>
>>16675321
soooo stupid but it's hilarious
>>
>>16682778

I thought they got an actual police escort at some point.

It's Alex Roy. He seems to get away with everything.
>>
>>16674976
I've heard stories of people going 40-50 over the speed limit taking someone to the hospita and getting pulled over and the cops letting the guy die while the car was pulled over so no u would get fucked unless you have a human being as a cop, which is rare in some places.
