She is really understanding when i tell her i want some alone time so no problems there. And since she doesn't drive on her own i have to take her everywhere. Also she told me first she'd like to learn how to ride so it's not like i'm forcing her. Her crashing is my biggest fear but we live in europe so no high speeds is a thing here and bikes are really the best way to get around the city here.

My gf rides but is atrociously slow, I might ride with her twice a year at most.

She already rode when I met her, but I don't see any upsides to having a girl that rides, unless you want to go on a motorcycle tour together or something, but if I did that I would get a proper tourer and stick her on the back because she's so fucking slow.

She can drive, it's just that she panics if there is traffic. My thinking is that with a GROM she could just filter through cars and even if she stalled the bike it wouldn't be an issue, also she's bad at parking the car, you can park a bike anywhere.

wait, not him, but I literally don't care that much about looks.

I like nice looking bikes sure, but a bike being ugly doesn't factor into whether or not I'd buy it or not, it entirely comes down to performance and suitability for my purpose.

I can always just look at nice looking pictures if I want to see a nice looking bike it doesn't matter when you're riding.

Yesterday I went too deep into the forest exploring some trails with my baiku. It had been raining the day before and it was too muddy in some points so... I dropped the bike.
The rear brake lever is bent now.
Is it worth it trying to unbent it or should I just buy a new one?
I was going to blame the tires for this but we all know that I cant ride for shit so...
>>
>>16671792
If you can unbend it, unbend it. It's not a structural piece so if it works it works.

Welcome to the club.
I can still brake just fine but it's a bit of a hassle.
I think you can unbend it but only once, after that it should snap. I don't dare to try it, I thought about asking my mechanic but I still haven't gone in 2 months, lol.
>>
>>16671792
Bend it. If it breaks, use something else as a lever. I've seen someone use a wrench as a brake lever.
Or you could buy one if it breaks.

I bent my brake lever and bent it back in place. The lever still works fine after three years.

Another question...anyone know what the factory wiring is supposed to look like on a battery? Is it just the two big hook style positive and negative connectors that are screwed into the battery?
>>
What tires should I get? 05 kawasaki 636
>>
>>16671836
Those 2 big really thick wires are factory ones. Usually they have very big terminals like you see there. The thinner terminals with thinner wires on top are some aftermarket accessory.
>>
>>16671845
just pick any sport touring tire made in the last 7 years
>>
>>16671849
thanks. that what was i wanted to know.

is it normal for accessories to be hooked up to only the negative terminal?
>>
>>16671861
Well by nature they have to make a complete circuit, so they're probably spliced into a positive wire elsewhere on the circuit. This is common because it allows you to wire it up so the accessory only comes on when the key is on.
>>
>>16671761
thanks for your concern, anon. but most of us here want to die

They've never rode a bike. So they don't know what it's like. They like the idea of riding a bike, but they stick to the visual parts of riding. Aesthetic, fashion, etc. Stuff they know.
When they get on a bike, they realize why most bikes aren't cafe racers.
It's the same as the old custom choppers. Notice how very few young people actually ride choppers. It's mostly old people, and most choppers are just show bikes. Hell, old people just latch on to the cruiser in general.

An acceptable direction is to get them into scramblers. still retro, but you can ride them everywhere. Hell, you can even do some dirt. And a scrambler is relatively comfortable.

Hey /dbt/, I want to get a motorcycle when I graduate from college in about 3 months. I've already got all my gear fitted and picked out, and I'm going to be taking the MSF courses to get my license

I'm 6'3, so I'm worried about finding a bike that will fit me properly in terms of ergos. What Cruisers would you guys recommend for a tall beginner?

Pic related, my dream bike.

Is there a TrueCar or Edmunds of motorcycles that shows you what you should actually pay for a new bike? I want to buy a 250 enduro or maybe one of the honda naked 300s but I don't know where pricing should go.
>>
>>16673802
>what you should actually pay for a new bike
MSRP + sales tax at most. Any fees the dealer tacks on is just jewery. Tell them to fuck off if they can't cover their own cost of doing business.

That shit pisses me off so much. I don't understand how dealers actually get away with that shit without losing business. When you go to any other store to buy something they don't hide their cost of business then add it on at the end. When you buy cheetos at Wal-Mart marked at $1.50, it's not suddenly $3.20 at the register because they add on shipping, loading, and stocking fees.

Thankee.

Even if indian is a premium brand the scout is a budget bike, the suspension in the front sucks dick, it really needs progressive springs to settle the front end down at speeds above 70mph.

The lack of aftermarket is killing me too, i want some long rear springs and some mid controls but noone has made production versions of any of that stuff.

How come zx6r's are the cheapest second-hand sport bike? Like 2k cheaper than an r6 and they look pretty nice.

If I were to get another sport bike I'd definitely look into them

watching this vid really makes me want to get a sports touring or cruising bike

06-current R6 is basically the same bike with minor upgrades every year or so. Even the 2017 still has most of the same running gear

You know, I don't feel like a hipster.
I like a lot of hipster stuff. But that's just because "hipster" is just the overused term for liking something that's not mainstream.
And I've lived in the goth/punk/metal/rave/etc communities for the past fifteen years.
So I'm used to that, and even if I like some hipster stuff, I don't let that bother me.

Standards, yes. Because standards are the same as ever. Sportbikes are losing popularity in America in comparison to other types of bikes.
>>
>>16674720
What evidence do you have to support that? 25 years ago, track days weren't even a thing. Nowadays even total newbs are going to track days on their sportbikes.
>>
>>16674723
He's right though, the market is pretty saturated with super sports, and more people are buying more milder nakeds, standards, and adv bikes.

Basically everyone who likes bikes rides something ergonomic. Dedicated track bikes generally need to be towed or shipped to a track, and no one actually wants to ride a proper sport bike to a track for six plus hours.
And back road hooning can only be fun for so long before it gets dangerous.

In Europe it's different because the countries are tiny and you can cross three countries in a twenty minute jaunt to go some place famous.
And you've also got lots of curving roads. Lots of them. Everywhere.
America has flat highways and a couple mountains that have curves. And lots of older roads on the coasts that also have curves, but they're not as dramatic as fucking Italy.
Plus you factor in nostalgia. Sport bikes aren't old enough for people to be nostalgic about sitting in a smoke filled road side bar as a kid watching Kevin Schwants rip apart tracks on a 500cc 2 stroke death machine.
>>
>>16672196
Insurance will ask about that when you eventually buy it. They care most about liability coverage, so if you have that for another bike currently, they just might forgive your misdeed
>>

thank god I'm not american, I'd have to not like bikes.
>>
>>16674899
We like bikes too. We just have a different context, so we enjoy different things. Dirt is more prevalent here. Though long distance overland camping hasn't caught on, it's getting up there. Usually Americans think of camping road trips with campers or vans.
But supersport bikes are just not comfortable or practical for four plus hours of riding.

It was kind of comfy, can't wait for the bike to get out of the shop so I can really stretch it's (and my) legs on a good ride.

I just bought my Gixxer in Adelaide and rode it back to sydney. Literally 14 hours of riding in 1.5 days.
Dirt is far bigger here than it ever will be in America. Why do you think Stoner is so good at sliding?

I started riding my bicycle to work for about 6 months as didnt have a car. Started to enjoy the feeling of riding on 2 wheels more and more. Then had an epiphany and was like "I can get the same feeling of riding even faster on 2 wheels but without pedalling like a madcunt if I got a motorbike". So I went and got my licence and baiku.
