The Ford Ranger is the very best compact truck ever made, ever.
Know how I know?
>How many 80's and 90's Toyota's do you still see driving around?
Honestly, not a lot.
>How many 80's and 90's Datsun/Nissan's do you see driving around?
Even fewer than Toyotas.
>How many 80's and 90's S-10's do you see driving around?

>How many 80's and 90's Rangers do you see driving around?

I see just as many s10s driving around as I see rangers.
The reason you see so many rangers is that they were a dime a dozen. Companies would buy fleets of the 2.3l ,manual, for cheap and sell them off once they reached 80k. The only reason you see more of them than anything else back then is due to lack of them rusting away.
... but I see all of those trucks driving around all the time? About as common as their larger counterparts.

Is that an ex-forestry jeep?

Exactly my point. Toyotas and Nissans have all rusted away because of the shit-tier steel they were put together with.
When you make a vehicle that biodegrades even in the desert, that's the opposite of quality.

Rangers are shit.
It seems like they had really poor quality control.
Like some people say they never have issues. Others say they have nothing but issues.
Im inclined to believe the people who had issues.
Every ranger ive driven has had an issue going into 1st gear. Half the electronics dont work. And RUST RUST RUST.
Not to mention NO power, even with the 4.0.
Shit steering feel, shit brake feel, shit trans feel.
Its all mushy and gross.

My ranger's doing great with 155k miles. Literally everything works, idk what you're talking about with electronics failing because there are hardly any. I have the 4.0 and yeah it's slow but it'll do 80 on the highway no problem which is all I need.
>>16667689
Looks like ass though
Sorry damn near every single landscaper truck in my city is a pre-tacoma Toyota Pickup, or a Tacoma.
They go for absurb amounts of money. The 3.0slow actually isnt reliable, and require clutch change outs far more often, and slave/ master cylinders go frequently too.
The Taco is king. The Ford is not. Sorry, I am a Ford fan, but my dad and two brother's all had Rangers at one point or another, and got rid of them for less than $1,500 each.
Toyotas were the most A E S T H E T I C compact trucks in the 80s and 90s. God-tier with a lift kit.

Hoo boy
Mine was a 95. Bought her with 90000 miles. The mechanical aspects of the truck were pretty solid (had a blown brake line and a few random weird things), but the electrical issues sucked. There were a few occasions where all the electronic things in the truck simply shut off for no reason. Also the windshield wipers didn't like to work when it was damp out at all. That being said, she was my first vehicle, and I do miss her a lot sometimes.

Leave it a Ford fanatic to not only not know how to read, but to try to look smart and clever about it.
Comanche a best.
Rangers are OK but honestly, the explorer is so much better... at least in my experience.
I had a 2001 ranger single cab with the 3.0, it was not that good... I mean it worked but the engine was of course gutless as all hell. It did NOT drive like a truck but rather a a tin can on wheels with shit suspension.
I drove my 98 5.0 explorer and it drove so, so much better.... heavier, felt way more solid and had that 5.0 torque down low. It felt like a truck. Not to mention AWD , rear LSD and 6500 lbs towing capacity.
No more rangers for me.... its a shitty compromise of a truck but has its place and time.
I've seen more s10's hot rodded than stock. Haven't seen a ranger with a v8 yet but now I want one.

How's that not way more fucked than my MJ? It'll be mechanically perfect once the diff gets rebuilt. Most of my whining is about shit that in no way affects how it runs, or shit I just passed the fuck over when inspecting it. I still see XJs and even the rare MJ in nearly spotless condition, especially down here where most shit never rusts.
I just ended up buying a parts truck for too much. If it was in better shape I'd be happy as a fucking clam. It can be good, but I have a ton of work to do and loads of parts to replace. Engine and transmission however spin like a top.
>>16677321
>It can be good, but I have a ton of work to do and loads of parts to replace.
I mean yeah, but sometimes it makes more financial sense to just get one that doesn't need a shit ton of work.
For example, I have a 1998 explorer 5.0 with 225K miles. The engine is worn out to the point that its being kept alive on thicker oil. The truck also has various other issues plus damage on the front and rear from wrecks.
Ultimately, a 2000 explorer 5.0 for $2k with less than 100k miles made far more financial sense than rebuilding the engine on a truck with 225k miles and wreck damage.
>>16677347
That's the trick with the MJ, thought. You want one? You take the one that you find. That, or you start asking around and pay a shitload more for it sight unseen because the closest one you found was two states away. They're not extinct but they're certainly not easy to get your hands on.
If I could have the choice to do it over I'd pass on it and wait another week for a $900 XJ that would have needed maybe $400 of parts and work at the most to show up, like they always do.
