New Beetles (1998-2012) are horrible cars, avoid at all costs. If you want TDI find a Jetta or a Golf/Rabbit.
Geo Metros get good mileage. Motorcycles too.

saturn s series with single overhead cam and a manual transmission. You might be able to pick one up for around $1500 and you can get high 30s on the highway

Keep your car. Pay it off as fast as possible. It would take years to break even spending just $2500

well I'm also in it for insurance pymts too. comp/Collis at deductibles so high (can't change because poor fag living with parents and they won't let me modify insurance policy) that I'd destroy my saving just to pay deductible and 130monthly pymts :(

If you can break even on the Mitsu just trade it in for a used fiesta or corolla or a fit.

Stop encouraging him to make more shitty decisions. Even if he owed nothing and bought an efficient car for 2500 bucks it would still take years to break even the fuel savings. You'd save like 200 bucks a year in fuel at 10k miles a year and 2.28/gal. So it'd take 12 years to break even.

Negro, OP said he it was about insurance also. OP didnt say what Mitsubishi he has but since he brought insurance up as an issue, my guess is that its a Lancer and Lancers have insane insurance rates. And no its not just the fucking Evo. My sister's insurance is $70/month for her corolla. If OP got the same deal that would cut his insurance by roughly $720 a year.
So roughly $1k a year approximately in savings in fuel and insurance. OP says he owes 7k, if he can break even on a trade in and get something that has lower running costs for about roughly the same amount that he currently owes, then its not costing him any more in the long run.
This isnt even getting into his current financing. If he financed something around 18k for 60 months he can easily save $150-200 per month by trading in for something in the $10-12k range.
