I went to look at it today and the thing is well put together aside from the rust. The mechanic they took it to rebuilt the carb so currently the idle is at a ridiculous 3k, but that's definitely fixable. If my tax return is sizeable, I might purchase the little dude and use it for rallycross or whatever and just trailer it about until I can figure out how to get a bonded title for it.

I mean if you like the thing, like I said $2k for something that runs and drives reliably is always straight. But I think you can get something similar for a lot cheaper and will have some extra money for shit that needs to be replaced. And remember old vehicles with low mileage are still old vehicles. Lots of shit wears out whether or not it is being driven. But that truck reminds me of an old ass F-250 my neighbor got from his grandpa a few years back. Floorboards were rusted out but those American V8s will last fucking forever as long as you keep a little oil and gas in them.

Same goes for most American trucks, SUVs, and sedans with 6cyl or 8cyl engines through the early 2000s. And parts are always cheap and plentiful. Any Ranger, F-Series, Explorer, Blazer, etc or larger sedan should be pretty reliable as long as they weren't totally neglected. If you go newer than '97 you get OBDII so more electronics but stuff can also be easier to diagnose. Fleet pickups like that Ferd are nice tho because less bells and whistles means less little shit to break.

Tl;dr:
That truck is still straight but you should go in there and offer them like $900 because you know they bought if for next to nothing. You could def get it for <$1500.

Emailed the guy, says a/c isn't hooked up but has compressor so allegedly all it needs is compressor and lines,
and says tach and speedo don't work, but boost, water temp and tach (?) are wired to gauges. Will it need a standalone ECU for these to ever be functional?

They probably paid dude $600-$700 for the truck and want to try and make their $1000+ profit but would be happy to get rid of the thing and use the lot space for a 2011 Camry that they can make $2500 profit on.

I have pulled shit like that a lot with my buddy who flips cars. We had this Infiniti Q (late 90s) on some Mexi sales lot with a bunch of BMWs and Mercs and shit that nigs love and I think they had the Infiniti marked for close to $7k and left with the thing for just under $4k. It was a nice car but the paint wasn't the best and owner would rather have it gone and break even so he can get another 2009 328i with high miles that he can sell real quick and make money.
