Any "childhood fantasy" career (AKA things you said you wanted to be when you were six), such as:

>airline pilot
>soldier
>train conductor
>race car driver

Those all naturally attract spergs.

Autists are okay with socializing, but only when inside their comfort zone discussing their primary interest. So they come to message boards like this.
>>

Fun fact: I ran out of gas on the final lap and thats why Cosmo passed me. It looks like a bump & run, but I was literally in 6th gear coasting and he didn't know.

He turned me about halfway through the race, and I burned a ton of fuel having to catch back up, pass, and then pull away. Never once thought to monitor my fuel level. Just assumed I had enough.

Targa is good when everyone knows it well enough to not go off track and end up down a hill
I'd be down for that as I am fine with waiting for people to recover or just restarting so we can get back to having fun
maybe just go for a shorter track like Magione or something, with varied cars. Or a longer track with cars of similar performance.
>>

Put it on Targa Florio and add as many cars as possible, even if you can only put one of each, take ones people are likely to use

Speaking of the Targa Florio thing I'm pushing it back a week to February 26th since the 19th is being used for a foggy Porsche Cup race on Spa. Make sure to write your name down on the Google doc or you'll have to pick between Fiat 500 or a Lotus 98T/Porsche 917/30 with the boost stuck at 100% if you show up without a car written down.

I really wanna arrange some replicas of the Gran Turismo classic endurance races - doesn't people wanna do the 300 Km of Grand Valley or something in GT cars or perhaps even streetboxes?

>>16660462
pig disgusting GT5/6 HUD

GT2 did everything so much better

But really wouldn't people be interested in doing a couple of standalone races? 300 km isn't THAT much, it's less than the average RANWEC race easily, and it could be done in shitboxes if people wanted to
>>
>>16660427
That would be great. Only problem I'm having with the Gran Turismo tracks for the sims is that they aren't 100% accurate. Now I know it's difficult to create a track from scratch where you don't have much actual data to work with because it's a fictional track, but because I played these games so much even the tiniest differences stand out like a sore thumb to me. That's not to say these tracks are undriveable, because they certainly aren't, and I think with enough time I'd be able to adapt to the quirks of these mod tracks

The only fictional GT track mods I found so far that are absolutely perfect are the Autumn Ring and High Speed Ring, though I don't know if anyone converted the High Speed Ring to AC yet.
>>
>>16660484
I agree with that, I have probably 100,000 km of driving across all the Gran Turismo games, but in the different iterations of the GT games the tracks are slightly different too, so I don't really think it's too bad

Similar to how different mods of the same tracks in series we've done require some adjustment to drive
>>
>>16660427
>>16660475
Yeah I'd be up for it. No idea what kind of cars to use though.
>>
>>16660484
Pretty sure High Speed Ring is in AC, but I can't find it
>>
>>16660415
I didn't know they ported GV to AC.

>>16660475
That's a plan, perhaps there's a decent mod with cars present in GT1/2 (like the Castrol Supra, IIRC there were more cars than just JGTCs).

I'm up to host this if there's some interest.
>>
>>16660515
I'm tempted to say something in the same power range as the AI cars did in GT, which would be 200-350 bhp street cars, but it's definitely also possible with faster cars if people are more into that

I realize AC is fucked for endurance with the pit stops, but it could be done in rFactor with the same cars as used for the touge stuff

>>
>>16660528
There's nothing wrong with pitting in AC besides the fact that you have to decide all your changes once you're in the pit box. Besides, there's an app that lets you decide your changes before you get into the box in case you're not a professional Mario Party player.
>>
>>16660566
Ah that isn't too bad then for a couple of standalone races, I can understand why a series would be dumb but yeah

I still think some street cars, mods included, would be the most entertaining way to go for everyone, we have a lot of GT car stuff and I don't think this will get massive attention anyway, so why not just say 350 bhp max or something and just pick anything on streeet tires

Could work, perhaps a first round to pick the cars and then some BoPing?

The Gran Turismo purist will note that street cars were only in the GT2 rendition of the race, as the GT1 rendition pitted you against racing cars, like:
>[R] Accord SiR
>NSX-R LM GT2
>[R] Lantis Coupe Type R

It's not a competition. I'd like to run more AC with people but it's hard to find out what people want. It's also hard to have fun when you don't have cars that are anyway near close to each other in performance. I've solicited suggestions in the past but no one ever wants to say anything until someone does something which will then get shit on. Too many cars is also problem because it means some loser gets stuck in something too high/low speed for what the majority of other people are in.

Anyone have recommendations for AC circuits? Not new to AC but wondering if I'm missing anything besides Donington.

Tonight I tried Misano, Miseluk, Poznan, Thomson (Singapore GP), and VIR. I'd driven Poznan and VIR before, both good tracks. Misano is not great looking or fun to drive, Miseluk is fine for shit boxes. Thomson would be fine if it didn't have a meme and a half mile long straight.

I know, but the game will be more niche if you only have a few countries in it. It's really more of a "can we make money on this" situation more than anything. The reason for many rally games to include a wide variety of countries is because that's what sells.

rally is niche on its own anyway, 'x countries included!' is only a small bullet point that isn't that significant

one country can still have varied conditions like snow, tarmac, gravel, etc. like the British Rally Championship

When it comes to rally tracks, you're not expected to know the track from before.

I don't see how it's a problem to have virtually unlimited stages to race on.
>>
>>16665212
There was but it's obviously not very popular. It's called race craft
>>
>>16665266
>you're not expected to know the track from before
that's not exactly it
you only don't get to grind it at competitive speeds before the actual run (you wouldn't want to wreck your car on a reece), and the actual run doesn't include running laps over the same small piece of road

the other point is that rally takes place on public roads, not purpose designed tracks. a generated stage will be closer to a designed track than a public road - i don't suppose stage generator will actually generate whole forests, smaller towns and freeways, and then generate probable roads that would connect them, to simulate actual roads
>>
>>16665280
Heard about it before, got an alpha key but didn't bother launching it. It seems that the development is still going on on Steam so maybe it's not entirely dead.

Featuring all-new FREE bonus content, including the Audi Sport quattro S1 E2, as well as our home made Highlands track!
HIGHLANDS LAYOUTS
The perfect track doesn’t exist.
That’s why we created one.

Highlands - The original layout, 8152 meters long, filled with fast flowing path with curves and several jumps.

Highlands Long - An extension of the original layout, 12191 meters long and has all the characteristics of the original layout. This layout features some slower curves, a fast series of left and right turns, after a passage between rocks and the distinctive 3km long "Cabhag straight"

Highlands Drift - A configuration born to create long powerslides with supercars and hypercars. At 5167 meters long, this layout features long, flat and smooth curves, perfect for holding a constant power slide. The "tower lùb", guards the surroundings at the top of the hill.

Highlands Short - The shortest configuration, only 1714 meters, but based entirely inside the city. Incredibly intense and requires the concentration of a pro.

All four layouts share the same starting positions and pit lane, as well as the first corner and final 2 corners.

FIXES INCLUDE
* Improved and updated V10 tyre model for all cars available
* Improved and updated cars handling and chassis balance and inertia for all cars available
* Brake fade for all vintage cars
* Improved tyre wear and tyre graining algorithms taking more into account the load operation for each tyre.
* General bug fixes and corrections and improvements all around.
* Fanatec Leds and display now supported

here you go, more projections
>only two sliders and a 'reverse stage' button
>that's even less options than a 2D Amiga racing game
so you have not much user input and have to entirely trust the stage generator to do a good job with the stages

the short stages from early access Dirt Rally were not replaced with anything longer, instead Shitmasters only added more short and cut up stages - which they market as 'over 70', when in fact it's 12. the total length of roads is about 120-130km - for comparison the very first Colin McRae Rally game had literally twice the length (250-260km), though there weren't any longer individual stages. but they did have a better variety within a single rally.

so it's rather safe to assume that they won't make major changes to the generator for this version of the game either, since it's already done. best you can realistically hope for is more prefab chunks for the generator, or some very fine tuning. anything better will be quite a surprise.

oh, and the stage preview map seems to be just a generic background, not any actual additional data about the stage like scenery or landmarks.

>Stage generator works by taking a giant area of scenery that's like 15km by 15km and cutting the stage into the scenery.
so is it like Xpand Rally, where you have a huge map with paths set for individual stages? if that's the case, why didn't they take an actual piece of the Earth and trace real rally stages?
>>
>>16665528
Don't think it's like Xpand though I haven't played it for a while, the chunk of terrain has no tracks at all the stage is literally imposed into the scenery of that makes sense (if it doesn't it's cause I just woke up lel). Also codies being codies are saying they can't have real world due to licensing which is bs imo

>the chunk of terrain has no tracks at all the stage is literally imposed into the scenery of that makes sense
so it is in fact randomly generated from a set of parameters, except there's some basic terrain data it uses?

then it sounds like a hybrid between XR and the RECS system from Lotus/International Rally Championship. except with less user input.

According to Paul Coleman the WRC has the license for all of Germany, which I find incredibly hard to believe.

They just cba to model anything off real life I think, they pulled the same shit with modding support and said if people made mods they'd get sued.

First impressions of the Audi Quattro S1 for AC:
>3d model is great. tons of stuff in the interior
>only one tarmac tire compound
>very understeery, not at all like I expected from muh Group B death machine, perhaps caused by the default setup
>here's a webm if you wanna listen to the sounds this car makes: https://a.uguu.se/zAMGaqNG3s8q_AudiQuattroSound.webm
>as you might see in the webm, the boost gauge next to the tachometer doesn't work however the one next to the speedometer does
>the handbrake doesn't work

Now, onto trying the new track. I didn't like their first fictional track (the desert one) but maybe they've improved their track design skills but I don't expect Gran Turismo levels of quality for fictional tracks
>>
>>16665597

Upload that webm somewhere else pleas, uguu is fucked
>>
>>16665616
https://my.mixtape.moe/hnrmlk.webm

One more thing I gotta mention is that I made that webm at 100% boost. This makes the blow off noise louder but causes engine damage if you have damage activated. It can run boost up to 90% without damage
>>
>>16665557
Also added a couple of Quattros

First run of Semetin with the Group B Quattro

Great to finally see an official rally car in AC, finally we have something to drive on all those rally stages Kunos have made.

Oh wait.
>>
>>16665747
Yeah the way the pirated DLC works is steam only updates stuff you officially own, it doesn't recognise the unowned DLC is in your folder so it needs to be updated manually.
>>
The short track is by far the best. The rural road sections on the normal and long layout are really boring because it's just very long straights and very long corners that aren't challenging at all.
