It's just that it has more contrasting colors and some guages. Change the interior to black and gray and switch the guages for an ipad and it's pretty much the same.

New cars are definitely more comfortable
Not having to fit airbags leaves you more control and liberty with panels surrounding the dashboard and means the steering wheel could be thin.
In this particular case, we have a mid-range car, so the iterior could use relatively nice materials, have shiny stuf if not chrome. There was no need to focus on the weight of interior elements since fuel efficiency was not a concern yet.
